History
The village of Jasenica is first mentioned in documents in 1269, when it belonged to the bishop of Nitra. From 1394 the village belonged to Mikuláš Szunyogh. The Szunyog family belonged to the leading peasant families in Hungary and after 1460 they became the owners of Budatín.
Daniel Szunyogh, a servant from Trenčín, and his wife Barbora Pružinská, had a Renaissance manor house built in Jasenice in 1618. This is also documented by the inscription with coats of arms located above the main entrance to the manor.
The Szunyoghs lived in the mansions in Jasenica and Divinka, and since the 18th century the family has split into two branches - Michal Szunyogh and his wife Barbora have lived in Jasenice. After his death, the manor belonged to his son Valentín and the Szunyogh family ends with him in Jasenica. Michal's uncle František and his wife Jana and later his descendants settled in Divinka.
In the 18th century, the manor house was rebuilt in the Baroque style. Later modifications were also made in the 19th and 20th centuries. In the first half of the 20th century, several local families lived in it. It has been uninhabited since 1968 and was later used as a warehouse. In the second half of the 20th century, the manor house fell into disrepair and, apart from repairs to the roof in the 1970s, no repairs were made to it.
Although the restoration of the dilapidated manor house was planned for the years 1986-1990, its comprehensive restoration did not take place until 2003-2005. After the reconstruction, the workplace and exhibition premises of the Museum of National History in Považská Bystrica were located here until 2010.
The manor belongs to the village of Jasenica and has been rented since 2010. It serves as accommodation in historic apartments, as well as a place for various cultural and social events and weddings.
