The mansion is a two-storey one-wing building with an entrance tower. It has a rectangular floor plan with dimensions of 26.7 x 9.6 m, from which protrudes a square floor plan of the tower. On the northwest side of the building are the remains of a smaller niche, which is connected to the portal of the headquarters.The interior layout on both floors is dominated by the division into three main rooms. In the main rectangular tract as well as in the entrance tower there are visible traces of Gothic building style.

Kaštieľ je dvojpodlažnou jednotraktovou budovou so vstupnou vežou. Má obdĺžnikový pôdorys s rozmermi 26,7 x 9,6 m, z ktorého vystupuje štvorcový pôdorys veže. Na severozápadnej strane budovy sa nachádzajú zvyšky menšieho výklenku, ktorý je prepojený s portálom sídla.V interiérovom členení dominuje na oboch podlažiach rozdelenie na tri hlavné miestnosti. V hlavnom obdĺžnikovom trakte i vo vstupnej veži sa nachádzajú badateľné stopy gotického stavebného štýlu.

The origin of the manor is estimated at the 14th - 15th century, when the building lay on an "island" in the middle of the loop of the meander of the Nitra river, which gave rise to the name of the water castle. It is the oldest preserved Gothic-Renaissance aristocratic residence in Slovakia. The manor house is a remnant of a late Romanesque lowland castle from the 12th to the 13th century. The foundations of the castle were discovered in the form of a fortified residential and defensive tower on the site, which was naturally protected by the meanders of the Nitra River. In the 14th century, they built a tower with a similar function near the defunct tower. In the first third of the 15th century, a palace was added to it and the site was fortified again. The deed of Sigismund from 1426 is also attached to this modification, which allows Imrich and Mikuláš de Simonyi to complete the stone "fortalicium" under construction. In the 16th century, the manor house underwent Renaissance alterations. In the 80s of the 19th century, the manor house was restored, and Renaissance alterations from the 16th and 17th centuries were also reproduced. After 1945, the areas around the manor house were divided into home construction. As a result, the routes of the fortifications from the Renaissance and late Gothic times disappeared, so only the park in the area adjacent to the water castle has been preserved. The last extensive reconstruction of the manor house in Šimonovany was carried out in 2015. The manor house has been open to the public since May 2016.

Pôvod kaštieľa sa odhaduje na 14. - 15. storočie, kedy objekt ležal na "ostrove" v strede slučky meandra rieky Nitry, z čoho vyplynul i názov vodný hrad. Je najstarším zachovaným goticko-renesančným šľachtickým sídlom na Slovensku. Kaštieľ je pozostatkom neskororománskeho nížinného hradu z 12. až 13. storočia. Základy hradu sa zistili v podobe opevnenej obytno-obrannej veže na mieste, ktoré bolo prirodzene chránené meandrami rieky Nitra. V blízkosti zaniknutej veže postavili v 14. storočí vežu obdobnej funkcie. V prvej tretine 15. storočia k nej pristavali palác a lokalitu znovu opevnili. K tejto úprave sa viaže aj listina Žigmunda z roku 1426, ktorou povoľuje dokončiť rozostavané kamenné "fortalicium" Imrichovi a Mikulášovi de Simonyi. V 16. storočí prešiel kaštieľ renesančnými úpravami. V 80-tych rokoch 19. storočia bol kaštieľ reštaurovaný, boli reprodukované aj renesančné úpravy zo 16. a 17. storočia. Po roku 1945 boli plochy okolo kaštieľa rozparcelované na domovú výstavbu. Tým zanikli trasy opevnenia z čias renesancie a neskorej gotiky a tak sa zachoval len park v priestore priľahlom k vodnému hradu. Posledná rozsiahla rekonštrukcia kaštieľa v Šimonovanoch bola realizovaná v roku 2015. Kaštieľ bol sprístupnený verejnosti od mája 2016.
