In the early 14th Century an early Gothic basilica was built in the middle of the village. The aisles were removed and the arcades were bricked up in 1500, when the church was fortified. Above the chancel a defence tower was erected. The chancel’s polygonal closure was heightened with two defence levels and the buttresses were connected by arches, in order to build a machicoulis gallery behind them. The ensemble was strengthened by a surrounding wall in 1502, completed by a gate building and an adjoining bacon Chamber on the north-west side . The tower was heightened in 1827 and received its striking pyramidal roof. At the same time its defence systems together with the defence level of the chancel were removed . The typical western gable of the church was erected in the same time with the renewal of the roof in 1854. Inside the church the mainly 18th-century furniture is still preserved. Place and surroundings For centuries, music has added nobility to the wonderful fragrance of the gardens in Agârbiciu. The choristers, the organists, the school teachers, the priests and the pupils used to be responsible for the musical life of the Transylvanian Saxon villages. Beginning with the 16th Century, the brass bands appeared in the Southern and Central regions of Transylvania and their instrumentalists brought their contribution to the social harmony of rural life by the musical harmony they produced. Can there be anything more charming than Christmas carols sounding in perfect unison with the snow-covered landscape and the smell of homemade cakes? The brass band used to play in the tower of Agârbiciu not only on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but also at weddings, balls and on various other occasions. Biserica fortificată din Agârbiciu este un ansamblu de monumente istorice aflat pe teritoriul satului Agârbiciu, comuna Axente Sever. Ansamblul este format din următoarele monumente: Biserica evanghelică fortificată (cod LMI SB-II-m-B-12188.01) Incintă fortificată, cu turn de poartă, bastioane (cod LMI SB-II-m-B-12188.02) ocalitatea Agârbiciu, mai demult Agribiciu (în dialectul săsesc Arbejän, Arbäjn, în germană Arbegen, Erbegen, în maghiară Szászegerbegy, Egerbegy), este un sat în comuna Axente Sever din județul Sibiu, Transilvania, România. Se află în partea de nord a județului, în Podișul Târnavelor. Prima mențiune documentară a localității datează din anul 1343. Localizare Biserica fortificată din Agârbiciu închinată Fecioarei Maria este ridicată pe o colină din mijlocul satului și datează de la începutul secolului al XV-lea. Biserica este atestată documentar în 1415 și ridicată în stil gotic. Descriere Biserica, ridicată în mijlocul satului la începutul sec. al XIV-lea, a fost o bazilică de factură gotic timpuriu. Ulterior, în etapa de fortificare din secolul al XV-lea, navele laterale au fost demolate, iar arcadele au fost zidite. Deasupra corului a fost ridicat un turn defensiv, iar peste închiderea poligonală au mai fost construite două niveluri de apărare, având contraforții uniți prin arce, iar în spatele acestora au fost practicate guri de aruncare. În 1827, odată cu demolarea sistemelor lui defensive și a catului de apărare al corului, a fost înălțat turnul cu acoperiș piramidal. Turnul clopotniță este situat între cor și nava centrală. În turn funcționează trei clopote montate încă în evul mediu, două fiind din secolul al XIV-lea și unul din secolul al XV-lea. Clopotul mic și cel mare, datate în a doua jumătate a secolului al XIV-lea, poartă ambele aceeași inscripție: „O REX GLORIE VENI CUM PACE”. Clopotul mijlociu, datat la începutul secolului al XV-lea, are inscripția „O REX GLORIE VENI NOBIS CUM PACE LEONARDUS”. Fortificația în formă ovală, ridicată jurul anului 1500 sub forma unui singur rând de ziduri, cu înălțime variabilă, se adaptează pantei pe care se află biserica, închizând incinta.

Egerbegy evangélikus temploma 1343-as okmányokban jelenik meg először. Mostani alakját a XV. században nyeri el. A hajó mennyezete hálós volt, de ma már csak egy 6 oszlopra támaszkodó boltíves mennyezet. Tornya 6 emelet magas, őrfolyosója van, és 3 középkori harangnak biztosít helyet. A védelmi rendszer kiépítése a XVI. században kezdődött. Egyetlen, 6 m magas fallal vették körül. Az észak-nyugati sarokban található a kaputorony, a keleti fal mellett pedig egy hosszú épület húzódik, ott volt a település szalonnaraktára.
