Above Montagna, there is Castel d’Enna, towering into the sky. The noble earls of Enna constructed their castle in the 12th century. First a chapel should have been constructed on a hill by order of the bishop. Next to this chapel the commissioner could construct his residence, which was composed of a defensive and residential tower and the above mentioned little chapel. Probably it was in behoof of the constructors to pruchase a new residence, as they also possessed Castelfeder. In these days it already started deteriorating. In this way the lords of the castle got around to a new residence in protected location. This construction later on served as basis for the subsequent castle complex. Count Meinhard II conquered Castel d’Enna in a dispute and cleared out the noble Enn family. In the course of history their trace disappeared. Afterwards different families inhabited the castle. Until 1650 the Venetian Pietro Albrizzi embraced the castle and purchased it. After his death his descendants, the Zenobio Albrizzi family owned the castle and had it renewed in 1880. Today Castel d’Enna cannot be visited as it is still inhabited. Only once a year there is a concert of a local music group of Montagna in the inner courtyard of the castle. Castel d'Enna (Schloss Enn in tedesco), è un castello presso Montagna in provincia di Bolzano. Cenni storici Ha origine attorno al XII secolo, nato come tante altre fortezze locali dell'epoca come castello-recinto, contenente verosimilmente un palazzo baronale. Il castello all'inizio del XVI secolo apparteneva a Blasius Anich, giudice distrettuale di Egna, e fu modificato su imposizione diretta dell'imperatore Massimiliano. Queste modifiche riguardavano il portone interno, la cappella, gli angoli dei fabbricanti, alcune stanze interne e le pareti dei locali (che ricevettero un rivestimento ligneo). Inoltre fu anche rifatta la sala grande, mantenutasi inalterata fino ad oggi. Nell'anno 1648 è passato dai signori d'Enn alla nobile famiglia Zenobio Albrizzi di Venezia, che ancora oggi ne è proprietaria. Anche per questo motivo, solitamente il castello non è visitabile, a parte un giorno all'anno, in cui in una serata di metà agosto viene organizzato un evento pubblico all'interno dell'edificio, per far suonare la banda del locale comune. Solamente nel 1880 l'edificio fu sottoposto ad un profondo restauro in stile neogotico, su progetto dell'architetto viennese Friedrich von Schmidt. Questi lavori cambiarono molto l'aspetto dell'edificio, aggiungendo alcune torrette, erker, guglie, pinnacoli, abbaini, la cinta esterna e il mastio. Il castello possiede un importante archivio storico, risalente al Quattrocento, che oggi si trova parzialmente depositato presso il Palazzo Albrizzi in Venezia.
