White towers rise at Paschbach Castle above the wine growing area of Appiano. Today, Paschbach Castle offers also suites and rooms with breakfast with a gorgeous panoramic view in one of the most beautiful areas of South Tyrol. Colourful flowers bloom all around the castle and a lush green shines from the garden, to the delight of all nature lovers. In 1570, Jakob Aichner from Cortina took over the medieval tower of the castle. His son, Hans Baptist, was ennobled with the title “von Paschbach” in 1589. Finally the Lords of Mörl from the Val Pusteria valley received the castle by marriage at the end of the 17th century. From the 19th century onwards, the Lords of Wohlgemuth and - in the course of time - several other noblemen took over the leadership of Paschbach Castle. Today, the castle belongs to Rolanda Zanghi and her family. At Paschbach Castle, medieval craftsmanship and Renaissance home decor are combined in historical columns and parlours. The castle was rebuilt in the late Middle Ages and again around 1585 in the style of the Renaissance by Luca d’Allio. Around 1900 Hermann von Zastrow organized a renewal in the style of Romanticism. Castel Paschbach (in tedesco Ansitz Paschbach) è un castello che si trova nella frazione di San Michele del comune di Appiano in Alto Adige. I primi documenti scritti che parlano di questo maniero risalgono al 1248, quando era costituito solamente dalla cosiddetta "Torre di Pasquay". Nel 1570 il castello fu acquistato da Jakob Aichner, che nel 1585 lo fece ampliare in stile rinascimentale da Luca d'Allio. Rimase nelle mani della famiglia Aichner, che intanto era stata investita del predicato nobiliare "von Paschbach", fino alla fine del XVII secolo quando passò ai signori di Mörl. Nel XIX secolo divenne di proprietà dei Wohlgemuth e poi passò di mano in mano fino agli attuali proprietari. Nel secondo dopoguerra fu il domicilio del pianista Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, che vi tenne anche dei corsi di perfezionamento. Il suo pianoforte è ancora conservato nel castello. Oggi è diventato un hotel e non è quindi liberamente visitabile.
