The Chateau de Bonnemare and its hamlet are situated in the forest of Radepont on the borders of the Vexin region of Normandy between the Valley of Andelley and the Valley of the Seine. Before 1555, a medieval manor preceded the chateau. Raoul de Bonnemare lived in this manor; the hero of the lay (short narrative poem) by Marie de France entitled “The Two Lovers”. The story takes place 12 kilometers from here above the valley of the Seine d’Andelle. One local tale recounts that Charles VII, Agnès Sorel, and Charles IX were occasional guests at Bonnemare. Charles IX loved to hunt in the region. He planned to build a monumental chateau in the commune of Charleval, but never finished due to this ill- timed death. In 1555, Nicholas Leconte, the marquis of Draqueville, constructed the chateau, the chapel, a farmhouse with the first cider house, and a châtelet at the entrance that corresponded with current tastes. Leconte was later named president of the Parliament of Normandy. He constructed a chateau flanked with 2 turrets and 2 wings. It was decorated with a châtelet at the entrance, a new chapel, and various farm buildings. Around 1637, Etienne de Fieux purchased the chateau and its compound. His family partially refurbished the Chambre de Parade, and modified the farm by adding a larger cider press in 1668. In the 18th century, two families consecutively owned the Chateau de Bonnemare, the Crimelins of Villette, and then Charles the Blond and his son. They installed a wing in the north region of the chateau in 1779, which contained multiple apartments, and a salon. During the French Revolution, the proprietor of the castle destroyed parts of the castle that referenced the ancient regime. In other words, he destroyed all symbols of previous owners nobility. In the 21st century, various families inhabited the chateau: Louis Alexandre, a banker in Rouen, Louis Cavelan, a businessman, and finally in 1888 Gustave Gatine, a notary in Paris and grandfather of the current owner, purchased the chateau. He decorated the park with statues from the 18th century, which he acquired from the Chateau de Bagatelle (they were sold following the death of Richard Wallace, the last owner of “La Folie” du Comte d’Artois). http://www.bonnemare.com

Le château de Bonnemare, château situé dans la commune de Radepont dans l'Eure en Normandie, fait partie du patrimoine du Vexin normand. Il fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis octobre 1992 alors que les communs ont été inscrits depuis janvier 1991. Histoire Nicolas Leconte, seigneur de Draqueville achète en 1555 un ancien manoir médiéval, qui aurait été habité par Raoul de Bonnemare, héros du lai des Deux-Amants de Marie de France. Conseiller au Parlement de Normandie en 1570, il construit le château actuel, ainsi que le châtelet d'entrée, la chapelle et les bâtiments de ferme. Étienne de Fieux acquiert les lieux en 1637. Il modifie en 1668 les bâtiments de ferme avec notamment l'agrandissement du pressoir. Le château devient au xviiie siècle la propriété de la famille Cromelin de Villette puis de Charles Le Blond. Il est successivement racheté au xixe siècle par Louis Alexandre, banquier à Rouen, Louis Cavelan, commerçant et en 1888 par Gustave Gatine, notaire à Paris et aïeul des actuels propriétaires. Architecture Le château de Bonnemare est constitué d'un corps de logis, d'un châtelet et d'une chapelle d'architecture Renaissance datant du xvie siècle. Il reste aussi de cette époque des éléments de la basse-cour, de la cour d'honneur et de la clôture. Les communs ont été construits ou reconstruits au xviie siècle et xviiie siècle. Ils sont constitués d'une grange, d'une étable, d'une écurie, d'une ancienne boulangerie et d'un pressoir ou cave à cidre. Parmi les curiosités, on peut citer la grande cuisine, disposant d'un tourne-broches imaginé par Léonard de Vinci et qui fonctionne encore, des charpentes "à la Philibert Delorme", aujourd'hui très rares de par leur style de construction, et d'une cidrerie comprenant un pressoir monumental (avec un levier de 8 m de long !) Le château de Bonnemare peut encore être visité lors de certaines occasions (pour les groupes, lors des journées européennes du patrimoine) et a été réaménagé en 2006 pour être loué (chambres d'hôtes de prestige ou gîte dans le corps de ferme). Le château de Bonnemare a accueilli en 2017 le Concours international de peinture grand format en Normandie.
