he originally Gothic Stronghold of Roštejn was rebuilt in the 16th century and turned into a Renaissance hunting estate. After being struck by lightning in 1915, the castle suffered a major fire and it was not until the 1960 s that the property began to be slowly restored. It was finally opened to the public in 1969. The castle is currently home to a museum. Its exhibits include collections of porcelain, pottery, pewter and period furniture. There is also an exhibit of weapons used in hunting, an exhibit of stone cutting, as practiced in the Vysočina Region, and an exhibit on the natural treasures of the surrounding Jihlava Hills. The dominant feature of the castle is its 45-meter high heptagonal tower that can be climbed as part of the tour of the castle so that visitors can enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside. The castle s historic halls are used as a venue for wedding ceremonies and other social gatherings. In June, during the annual historical banquet, the castle s courtyard is transformed into a medieval marketplace; and, in August, it becomes the location of traditional jazz performances. Hrad Roštejn (německy Burg Rosenstein) je pozdně gotický hrad stojící na skalnatém vrchu (677 m n.m) v katastru obce Doupě v okrese Jihlava. Hrad nechali vybudovat v první polovině 14. století páni z Hradce. V 70. letech 16. století jej pak Zachariáš z Hradce přebudoval na renesanční lovecký hrádek s rozlehlou oborou. Dalšími majiteli byli Slavatové z Košumberka, Lichtenštejni z Kastelkornu a Podstatští-Lichtenštejnové. V současnosti hrad vlastní Kraj Vysočina a spravuje jej Muzeum Vysočiny v Jihlavě. V roce 1915 hrad vyhořel. Opravy začaly až v roce 1958 a od roku 1969 je přístupný veřejnosti. V roce 2016 má dojít k otevření dvou nových expozic v prostorách hradu, tématem je historie myslivosti a historie lovectví.[1] V témže roce došlo k průzkumu základů stavebními sondami, ty odhalily dutý prostor mezi zdmi kaple a obvodovou zdí, ten se stane součástí prohlídkového okruhu. Při průzkumech byly nalezeny zbytky historických oken. Později budou změněny dvě prohlídkové okruhy. Hrad získá 35 % nových exponátů. Budou zrestaurovány olejomalby a historický nábytek. V následujících dvou letech do rekonstrukce a údržby hradu má přijít přibližně 70 milionů korun.
