One of the greatest monuments of Kielce is Early Baroque Bishops Palace on Monastery Hill. It should be emphasized that the residence of the Cracovian bishops in Kielce is actually the only one, which has survived from the first half of the 17th century without any significant modifications. Over the centuries, the palace served many different functions and currently it is a seat of the National Museum. In order to allow it to serve both the citizens of Kielce and the tourists, as well as to enable it to play its role, required construction and maintenance works have been carried out.
During the first stage, three portals of black marble have been executed, according to a design from the 17th century.
Next stage consisted in the reconstruction of the retaining walls with armour stone plus the maintenance of the existing fragments and the execution of the northern terrace surface of calcite cobblestone.
Additionally, the reconstruction of the garden stairs near the western loggia of the Palace has been executed.
Moreover, the renovation of the terrace in front of the entrance to the Marshal Józef Piłsudski Sanctuary has been carried out. The activities included replacement of the majority of elements made of Kopulak sandstone with new ones: flooring, plinths, roofing, cladding, eastern and southern stairs with part of the arched part of the balustrade. The remaining parts have been dismantled, and after they have undergone reconstruction, they have been installed again - among others corner pillar of the balustrade and western stairs.

Zespół klasztorny ufundował bp krakowski Marcin Szyszkowski, jako wotum za ominięcie Kielc przez szalejącą w kraju w 1622 r. zarazę.

Kościół pod wezwaniem św. Karola Boromeusza wzniesiono na wzgórzu Karczówka, leżącym wówczas nieopodal Kielc. Nazwa wzgórza wywodzi się od osady leżącej na jego zboczu, zamieszkałej przez górników zajmujących się karczowaniem lasu. Akt erekcyjny wydano 2 maja 1624 roku. Kielce liczyły wówczas około 1500 mieszkańców. Lokalizacja uwarunkowana była bliskim położeniem Kielc, możliwością budowy w przyszłosci drogi krzyżowej oraz bliskością surowców budowlanych. Po wzniesieniu pierwotnego kościoła, który swym kształtem odbiegał od obecnej bryły, arcybiskup nadał Karczówce nazwę - Góra Świętego Karola, jednak nazwa ta nigdy nie znalazła akceptacji mieszkańców. W 1628 roku ukończono budowę kościoła. W 1629 roku zapadła decyzja o sprowadzeniu na Karczówkę zakonników. Rozszerzono zabudowania, przebudowano pomieszczenia plebanii, dostosowując je do celów klasztornych. W 1631 roku zakończono budowę, a na Karczówkę do klasztoru sprowadzono bernardynów. Jedynie na Karczówce odbywały się wówczas wielokrotne odpusty, które w ciągu roku gromadziły tłumy wiernych z miasta i okolic. W I połowie XVIII w. dobudowano od strony wschodniej zabudowania gospodarcze, które ogrodzono murem z basztami na wschodnich narożach i ulokowaną pośrodku bramą. Od 1957 r. w obiektach gospodarzy Stowarzyszenie Apostolstwa Katolickiego tzw. "Księża Pallotyni", które prowadzi tu parafię i nowicjat (zakon Bernardynów został zlikwidowany przez władze carskie w 1864 r.). Wzniesiony z prostych brył geometrycznych zespół klasztorny zwieńczają pokryte spatynowaną blachą miedzianą barokowe hełmy wieży i sygnaturki. Ciekawym jest także barokowy zespół schodów prowadzących do klasztoru. Ich okładzinę, balustradki i bramki wykonano z czerwonego i szarego piaskowca - drugiego po "marmurach" kamienia zdobniczego wydobywanego na Kielecczyźnie. W przedsionku po lewej, umieszczono tablicę erekcyjną, a po prawej, nad wejściem do klasztoru obraz kieleckiego malarza R. Praussa, nawiązujący do złupienia klasztoru przez Szwedów w 1655 r. Z przedsionka przechodzimy do kruchty, z której prowadzą wejścia do kościoła i znajdującej się pod wieżą - kaplicy św. Barbary. W jednonawowym kościele na szczególną uwagę zasługuje wykonany w marmurze chęcińskim wczesnobarokowy ołtarz główny z obrazami patrona świątyni i św. Kazimierza. Pozostałe wyposażenie wnętrza pochodzi z okresu rokoka. Z kościoła przechodzimy do kaplicy. W rokokowym ołtarzu umieszczono XVII w. posąg patronki górników św. Barbary. Wykonano go z nietypowego materiału jakim był rzadko spotykanej wielkości samorodek rudy ołowiu - galeny (PbS). O legendarnej historii tego znaleziska opowiadają umieszczone na zachodniej ścianie kaplicy tablice. Tutejszy mieszkaniec i górnik - Hilary Mala w szybach górniczych Karczówki znalazł trzy samorodki galeny. Wykonano z nich figurę Najświętszej Marii Panny (obecnie w kieleckiej katedrze), figurę św. Barbary (Karczówka) i św. Antoniego (Borkowice). Przołtarzu stoją dwa osiemnastowieczne świeczniki marmurowe, zdobione typową dla rokoka ornamentacją. Po wyjściu z kościoła, z tarasu widokowego możemy podziwiać panoramę głównego grzbietu Gór Świętokrzyskich. Zespół klasztorny Bernardynów składa się z kościoła p.w. Św. Karola Boromeusza z 1628 r., klasztoru z 1631 r., zabudowań gospodarczych i stodoły z 1 poł. XVIII w., przebudowanej w 1986 r. na kaplice MB Fatimskiej. Obecnie klasztor Pallotynów. Przy murze klasztornym, od strony północnej - pomnik, zbiorowa mogiła powstańców z 1863 roku.

Monastery in Karczówka

Chęciny Royal Castle was built in the late 13th century in Chęciny, Poland. It fell into ruin in the 18th century and remains in that state to this day.
The construction of the fortress probably began in the late 13th century. It is certain that the castle existed in 1306, when king Władysław I the Elbow-high gave it to the Archbishop of Kraków, Jan Muskata. A year later, under the pretext of detection of a plot against the royal power, the castle returned to the king. It played a significant role as a place of concentration of troops departing for war with the Teutonic Knights. After the death of Władysław the Elbow-high the stronghold was enlarged by Casimir III the Great. At that time Chęciny become a residence of the king's second wife Adelaide of Hesse. In following years it was also a residence of Elisabeth of Poland, Queen of Hungary, Sophia of Halshany and her son Władysław III of Varna and Bona Sforza. Later it was used for many years as a state prison. Among imprisoned here were Michael Küchmeister von Sternberg future Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, Andrzej Wingold, Jogaila's half-brother and Warcisław of Gotartowice.
In the second half of the 16th century, the castle began to decline. In 1588 the parliament ordered to transfer the castle's inventories to the Chęciny Church and in 1607, during the Zebrzydowski Rebellion the fortifications and buildings were partially destroyed and burned.  The castle briefly regained its former glory due to reconstruction initiated by Stanisław Branicki, starost of Chęciny, but in 1655-1657 it was almost completely destroyed by Swedish-Brandenburgian and Transylvanian troops. The destruction was completed in 1707 during another Swedish occupation. Then, the last residents left the castle. Over the next century the medieval walls become a source of building material for local villagers.

Chęciny Castle

Bodzentyn Castle (Polish: Zamek w Bodzentynie) is a ruined castle in Bodzentyn, Poland. It was built in the second half of the fourteenth century. At the beginning of the fourteenth century, the Bishop of Kraków, Bodzanta, built a wooden mansion on a hill above the Psarką river. This manor house was destroyed fairly quickly and the later Bishop of Kraków Florian Mokrski erected a stone castle on a hill, surrounded by a moat. One of the greatest events in the history of the castle took place in 1410 when King Wladyslaw Jagiello visited it on pilgrimage to the Holy Cross before the Battle of Grunwald. 
The fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were a time of unprecedented prosperity of the castle. It was expanded after the great fire of 1413 and at the end of the fifteenth century, Cardinal Fryderyk Jagiellończyk added a new east wing with the residential towers. Construction work continued during the sixteenth century by successive bishops Jan Konarski, Piotr Tomicki, Franciszek Krasiński and Piotr Myszkowski, who gradually gave it all the features of the Renaissance style. All the activities were led by the Italian architect, Jan Balcer.
Last significant reconstruction of the castle took place between 1657–1691, under the leadership of the bishops Jakuba Zadzika, Piotr Gembicki, Piotr Tylicki, Marcin Szyszkowski, Andrzej Trzebicki and Jan Małachowski. The building took the form of the Baroque, with a horseshoe-shaped plan. The last investor in the residence was in the 2nd half of the eighteenth century by Bishop Cajetan Sołtyk, employing eminent architect, Jakuba Fontanę.
The importance of the castle in Bodzentyn began to decline following the construction of the episcopal palace in Kielce. In 1789, the Diet decided to proceed to nationalize episcopal property. The castle was converted into a granary and a military hospital. In 1814 the building was finally omitted. The medieval castle became mainly a source of free building materials for the local population, consequently to erode the monument into ruin. Only in 1902 did the building become protected. But it was never rebuilt to its former glory.
