The first mention of the existence of Letovice Chateau dates back to 1360 when it was a stronghold. In 1424, the stronghold was conquered and destroyed by the Hussites. It was restored in the second half of the 15th century. Reconstruction in the Late Gothic style is evident from the several cellar rooms with a simple portal. In the second half of the 16th century, adjustments were made to the chateau’s interior and its fortifications, mainly on the north side. The stronghold was captured by the Swedes in 1645. At the end of the 17th century, the core of the residence was rebuilt into an Early Baroque chateau by Stephen Szelepcsenyi. In 1724, the chateau and the town burned down. The adjustments continued after the fire, especially in the chateau’s interiors and through the construction of the farm and office buildings east of the chateau. The Letovice manor would later pass through 11 families, the last of which was the Hungarian Kálnoky family, who resumed construction activities. The construction of the stables, summer and winter riding school with arcades on the terrace and modifications to the medieval tower give the chateau its current appearance. Since 2002, the chateau has been in privately-owned, and is undergoing extensive renovations. In 2008, it was first opened to the public. Apart from the main building and the basement, the riding school, a brewery and a chateau park can be seen in the chateau. Původní dřevěná tvrz patřící Bořitovi, jenž se nalézala na ostrohu nad Trstenickou stezkou, která spojovala Čechy a Moravu, byla přestavěna na hrad pravděpodobně Heřmanem z Letovic, od něhož pocházejí i první zmínky z let 1250-1274. Další zmínka pochází z roku 1316 od Stanimíra z Letovic. Hrad je ale písemně doložen až v roce 1360, kdy se majiteli hradu a panství stali páni z Letovic a z Ronova. Na přelomu 14. a 15. století zde byl do češtiny přeložen cestopis Marka Pola Milión. Roku 1424 hrad oblehli, dobyli a zničili husité. V letech 1446-1505 vlastnil polovinu hradu a panství rod pánů z Lomnice. Druhou polovina panství byla v letech 1446-1505 majetkem rodu pánů z Boskovic. Roku 1505 získali páni z Boskovic první polovinu a panství s hradem vlastnili do roku 1544. Ve druhé polovině 15. století prošel hrad pozdně gotickou přestavbou. Roku 1544 koupil hrad a panství od Kryštofa z Boskovic hrabě Kryštof z Hardeka a Kladska. Za Hanuše Fridricha z Hardeka byly provedeny úpravy interiéru, zesílení hradního opevnění se dvěma prstenci příkopů a dostavba opevněné předhradí. Kamenné náhrobky Hardeků se nachází v kostele sv. Prokopa. Roku 1614 přešel hrad a panství do rukou hraběte Jindřicha Václava Thurna svatbou s Reginou Juliánou z Hardeka. Roku 1645 hrad dobyli Švédové. Po smrti Jindřicha Václava Thurna byl hrad roku 1654 prodán Karlem Kašparem Thurnem za 60.000 zlatých Jiřímu Štěpánovi Bruntálskému z Vrbna, jenž nechal provést opravy válečných škod.
