The first mention of Rzeszów comes from the act of giving royal on deposits by Casimir the Great John Pakosławic. His descendants adopted the name of the city from the name of Rzeszów. Probably existed at that time within the city fortifications and castle which is the ancestral seat of Rzeszów.

In the year 1458 Rzeszów was devastated during the invasion of the Italians, and shortly after the Tartars, who burned the village. After the expiry of the family Rzeszów widow of the last of their representative, she married Nicholas Spytka Lizęgę. It was he who in the early seventeenth century began the construction of the castle, which was to become a strong fortress capable to face the raids which have often experienced Rzeszow. Construction of the castle lasted probably around 1620, and soon after, in 1624, thanks to the fortifications Rzeszow said the attack Tartars. Documents mention three gates in the fortification of the city - Water from the east, ELM at the castle from the south and from the north A brick was also some towers, from which it was possible to strengthen the flank fire.

Grand Royal Marshall Jerome Sebastian Lubomirski from the castle Pent directed the appointment and organization of the militia. These were the most important moments in the history of the fortress.
