Description

Kasteel Oud-Poelgeest is located in Oegstgeest, 2.9 km from Leiden, with Schiphol, Keukenhof and the North Sea beach in the vicinity. From this estate, you can take boat rides over the nearby lakes. In addition to a hotel and a bistro, the castle also has 15 meeting rooms. a wine-tasting hall and a castle bar with a sun-drenched patio adjacent to the big pond.

The castle was originally built as a fortified residence shortly after 1300 in an area ‘bordered by swamps and ponds’. It is situated on an estate of over 10 hectares with deciduous woods, a pond and waterways and a 19th-century coach house, a chapel, a forester’s house and a gatehouse. The current castle was built around 1640. One of its famous residents was the Leiden professor Herman Boerhaave (around 1725). He planted special trees and plants and planted an herb garden. The onion-shaped towers date from the 19th century.

The 45 hotel rooms and reception area are situated in the (modern) side building of the former coach house. The rooms have a view over the front garden with orchard or over the estate’s forest; some have a balcony. They are equipped with a bathroom, separate toilet, flatscreen TV and coffee and tea facilities. Guests can use the sauna free of charge. Each morning a breakfast buffet is served in the Koetshuis. There are also facilities for disabled visitors.

The Koetshuis also has the Oud-Poelgeest á-la-carte bistro. The focus is on seasonal products and organic products are used wherever possible. The chef provides various options for large companies, including private dining, a ‘walking dinner’, or a buffet for up to 150 guests.

Oud-Poelgeest is very suitable for conferences, meetings and festivities. There are 15 rooms, suitable for 2 to 100 guests. The stylish meeting rooms, some of which are in the castle itself, all have plenty of natural daylight and are equipped with modern conveniences. Meetings can be held in a renovated hayloft, for instance, or an 18th-century period room. Vehicles can park at the estate free of charge.

By visiting, guests contribute to the preservation of this cultural heritage site. It enables restoration, maintenance and embellishments of the listed property at the Oud-Poelgeest estate. Over the past years, the arched bridge has been restored and the restoration of the ceiling of the Drakenzaal has been completed.
