Classified as Historic Monument since 1945, the Castle of Estaing has both remarkable history and architecture that we invite you to discover.
Standing on a schistose promontory that overlooks the river Lot, the castle was for nearly eight centuries the residence of the Estaing family, one of the most famous of the Rouergue.
From the 11th to the 18th century the structures have evolved by adapting to the needs and fashions of each generation: the defensive loopholes near the decorative balusters adorned by the Estaing’s coat of arms; the roman, flamboyant gothic and renaissance styles share the frontages.
Several members of the Estaing family, military or religious, figure in the history of France, and that of the Rouergue:
Tristan, hero of the battle of Bouvines in 1214;
Pierre, cardinal in the 14th century;
François, bishop of Rodez in the 16th century;
Charles-Henri, Admiral, commanding the French fleet sent to support the War of Independence of the United States.
In 1794, seized and parcelled out, the building is sold by the State as national property. In 1836, the castle becomes the mother house of the religious Congregation Saint-Joseph d’Estaing. It is ceded to the city of Estaing in 2000.
In 2005, the SCI of the Chateau d’Estaing, formed by Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, President of the French Republic from 1974 to 1981, becomes owner of the building;
Then begins a programme of restoration intended to give back to the castle its original aspect and to make it a place of memories.
The works are realized, inside as well as outside the buildings, by qualified craftsmen who have at heart to give back life to this so special building.
The restored rooms will progressively receive furniture, objects and historic documents to better present the history of the castle.
In 2012, the castle became the property of the Foundation Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, recognized of public benefit.

The Château de Calmont d'Olt is a castle situated in France, in the Aveyron département in the commune of Espalion. Perched atop a basalt dyke at an altitude of 535 m, it overlooks from 100 m the town of Espalion and the valley of the Lot. It provides a panoramic view of the Aubrac highlands.
History
Flint fragments and a polished stone axe are evidence of occupation of the site for 5,000 years. The ministerium Calvomantese was first mentioned in 883, in documents from the Abbey at Conques. It has always had a military significance, commanding the road from Rodez to Aubrac and, more widely, the crossing of the River Lot on the Toulouse-Lyon route. The building of the castle was begun in the 11th century built and continued until the Hundred Years' War with the building of a second curtain with eight towers in 1400. Beyond this date, there was no further development. Abandoned by its owners in the 16th century, the castle fell to ruin. The castle, in its present state, is an important milestone in the history of castle building in medieval Rouergue. It bears witness to the architectural adaptations of castles to the technical progress of the Hundred Years' War.
Today
Registered as a historic monument (monument historique) in 1992 by the French Ministry of Culture, in 1987 the castle was bought by Thierry Plume who gradually renovated it and had it classified in 1992. From this date, with the assistance of Bâtiments de France and the regional archaeological service and thanks to the help of volunteers working summers with the castle team, the site has little by little been reborn.
Tourism
The castle is part of the Route des Seigneurs du Rouergue (Route of the Lords of Rouergue) which groups 23 castles. In 1997, it was awarded the Trophée du Tourisme culturel en Midi-Pyrénées (Trophy of cultural tourism in Midi-Pyrénées).
The site highlights the theme of siege warfare. Full-scale war machines have been reconstructed and visitors may assist in the launching of projectiles with:

pierrière from the siege of Toulouse from the 13th century
Visitors are also invited to take part in other demonstrations including archery, fencing and making chain mail.

Le château de la Servayrie est un château situé à Mouret, en France.
Description
Le Château de La Servayrie, bâti de grès rouge, sur un promontoire à la lisière du bourg de Mouret et dominant la vallée du Dourdou présente une architecture composante du xiie au xviie siècle. Est particulièrement remarquable sa tour romane qui nous est parvenue dans son état d'origine depuis le xiie siècle.
Localisation
Le château est situé sur la commune de Mouret, à moins de 20 km de Conques, au nord de Rodez, dans le département français de l'Aveyron.
Historique
L’histoire du Château de La Servayrie ne saurait être appréhendée sans la rattacher à celle du bourg de Mouret qui constituait dès le xie siècle le castrum de Moret, ainsi désigné comme étant à la tête de la coseigneurie réunissant quatre châteaux, dont le Château La Servayrie.
Consistant en un partage des revenus fonciers et des droits banaux que les coseigneurs perçoivent sur le territoire de la seigneurie, la coseigneurie de Mouret a fait l’objet de 1998 à 2001 d’une étude scientifique programmée sous la direction de Sylvie Campech.
Les résultats de cette étude sont publiés par le Centre d’Archéologie Médiévale du Languedoc (Tome 30 – N° spécial 2012) et constituent la référence principale de cet article.
LE CONTEXTE HISTORIQUE REGIONAL
L’histoire de Mouret commence vers l’An Mil, faisant partie du comté de Rouergue, aux mains de la famille de Toulouse-Rouergue, avant que les comtes de Toulouse (1112-1113) abandonnent le Rouergue au comte de Rodez qui devra cohabiter avec le comte de Barcelone devenu maître de la Vicomté de Millau et du Carladès
C’est Raymond V qui entreprendra la reconquête toulousaine du Rouergue au détriment du comté de Rodez, facilitée par l’élimination des Barcelonais-Aragonais du fait de la croisade contre les Albigeois. Ainsi Hugues IV comte de Rodez deviendra vassal de Raimond VII de Toulouse. Le successeur de ce dernier, Alfonse de Poitiers et son Sénéchal Eustache de Beaumarchais ne cesseront d’étendre leur influence toulousaine puis royale après 1271. La situation se détendra après 1304, avec l’intégration du comté de Rodez dans la principauté des Armagnac.
DE LA SEIGNEURIE A LA COSEIGNEURIE
D’une seigneurie aux mains de la famille éponyme, les Mouret (xie et xiie siècles) on passe vers 1200 à une coseigneurie associant une famille extérieure, les Entraygues puis dans la deuxième moitié du xiiie siècle à une coseigneurie multiple.
La famille de Mouret, identifiée dès 1031 connaîtra une véritable apogée jusqu’au xiie siècle, avant de probablement s’épuiser à rivaliser de générosités avec l’aristocratie régionale ou à suivre Raimond de Saint Gilles à la Croisade.
LE CHATEAU DE LA SERVAYRIE et LES ENTRAYGUES
La tour, première partie de l’édifice, parait dater des environs de 1200, tout en ignorant comment la famille d’Entraygues s’installe dans le Bourg, Bertrand d’Entraygues s’y trouvant en 1292.
1030 – 1299
La tour primitive, dont subsistent trois niveaux, s’apparente plutôt au type de la « tour-beffroi » (Mesqui 1991, 96 et sq.) symbolique et ostentatoire, mais inhabitable de façon permanente. La salle du deuxième niveau, élément majeur, peut être considérée comme une « aula » surélevée. En termes de défense, elle apparaît strictement passive, s’appuyant sur la massivité, l’épaisseur des murs et la situation élevée de l’unique porte. Cette tour primitive apparaît éminemment symbolique et affiche les attributs du pouvoir qu’elle cherche à incarner dans le paysage.
1300 – 1560
La guerre de cent ans a touché la région dès 1340 avec la prise du château de Belcaire à quelques kilomètres (Debat 1980, 289-303). Les « Anglais » ou routiers sont signalés un peu partout, le célèbre Villandrando écumant la vallée du Dourdou (Thomas 1890, 215-231) – Mouret fera l’objet d’une attaque et d’une occupation en 1410 (ADA, C 1345, f°127v°128)
Un évènement (de nature inconnue) a pour conséquence de détruire les niveaux supérieurs primitifs, ce qui va engager la construction de quatre niveaux supplémentaires, caractérisés par un souci d’amélioration de la circulation verticale et la dotation d’éléments de confort, desservis par un escalier à marches scellées conduisant jusqu’au chemin de ronde et sa couronne de mâchicoulis.
L’édifice primitif formant logis au nord de la tour connaîtra au xve siècle une troisième campagne de construction, en extension et élévation.
1560 – 1774
La fin du xvie siècle sera pour le Château de La Servayrie une époque paradoxale, faisant à nouveau l’objet de transformations remarquables, alors que l’état des autres châteaux de la coseigneurie traduisent un déclin architectural irrémédiable consacrant la fin de la coseigneurie.
Durant cette période, le logis de la fin du xve siècle adossé à la tour médiévale connaîtra trois principales campagnes de travaux qui aboutiront au volume actuel. Les deux premières campagnes de travaux dans les années 1570-1580 traduisent que La Servayrie a adopté avec un décalage chronologique de seulement 30 ans le nouveau style diffusé par le traité de Serlio.
Le premier quart du xviie siècle verront la création d’une imposante tour-escaler et d’une échauguette d’angle carrée, cantonnant l’élévation et conférant à l’ensemble un équilibre esthétique et traduisant une réelle volonté ostentatoire de cette façade, la seule visible depuis la vallée. Reconnu comme une construction conservant son caractère médiéval, où l’air du temps est encore timide, le château de La Servayrie ne saurait être une véritable composition Renaissance. L’attachement à l’architecture locale y est dominant, de fait les innovations sont rares, conduisant à un ouvrage de tailleur de pierres, sobre et harmonieux. C’est en ce sens que ce logis est représentatif de l’architecture rouergate de cette époque.
Vers le milieu du xviie siècle, la couverture à brisis et terrasson, percée de lucarnes à frontons et à œils-de-bœuf parachève avec goût les transformations de l’édifice.
La lignée des Entraygues, seigneurs de la Servayrie, s’éteindra à la fin du xvie siècle, avec François d’Entraygues, chanoine de la cathédrale de Rodez. Sa sœur épousera Antoine de Cabanes et lui apportera en dot tous les biens de sa maison. Ils n’auront qu’une fille, Antoinette de Résigade de Cabanes qui était mariée à Jean de Selves au début du xviie siècle. En 1652, Antoinette de Résigade de Cabanes, veuve et sans enfants fait donation de tous ses biens à François de Laroque de Sénézergues, entre autres, seigneur de Mouret « en toute justice » qui a déjà succédé à la famille éponyme.
Au début du xviiie siècle, le Château de La Servayrie passe dans la maison de Cadrieu dans laquelle se fondit celle de Laroque de Sénézergues, avant qu’un peu plus tard, le comte Jean de Cadrieu achète de François de Saunhac la terre et château de Reilhac, autre château à Mouret, et se trouve ainsi en possession de toutes les seigneuries de Mouret, avant de la revendre en 1750 avec d’autres possessions à Gaston de Guiscard, Marquis de la Bourlie, son gendre.
1775 à aujourd’hui
Les châteaux de Mouret, dont La Servayrie furent vendus à l’époque de la Révolution. De nombreuses et diverses familles s’y succèderont aboutissant au début du xxe siècle à une détention en co-propriété entre plusieurs familles.
Cet état de copropriété horizontale, les familles co-propriétaires possédant chacune un niveau, conduira à l’abandon progressif de l’édifice, faute d’entente sur les travaux d’entretien.
C’est en très mauvais état, presque ruiné, qu’il deviendra en 1993 propriété de Colette et Roger Fabry, actuels propriétaires.
Inscrit à l’inventaire des Monuments Historiques en 1993, le Château de La Servayrie sera classé en totalité en 1994. S’ensuivra une campagne de restauration conduite par ses propriétaires, avec le concours de la Conservation Régionale des Monuments Historiques qui durera plus de dix ans. Ainsi, au début de ce xxie siècle, au prix d’une restauration reconnue comme exemplaire et saluée par la presse nationale, le Château de La Servayrie retrouvera sa place majestueuse dans le paysage Aveyronnais.
L'édifice est classé au titre des monuments historiques en 1995.

Château de la Servairie

Château de Valon is a castle located in the town of Lacroix-Barrez, in the French department of Aveyron.The castle, built in rubble except the dungeon, including a forecourt fully closed by residential buildings that lined a courtyard beneath which is a solid wall that forms shirt to keep. A second door led from the corridor with a passage. We had to work around the dungeon to find the entrance. The dungeon was a watchtower at each corner and a lofty hall surrounded by battlements.

Château de Valon

Ancient XIth century fortress.
The castle was altered in the XVth, XVIth and XVIIIth centuries.
Buttress, arms room of the XIth century and oubliettes.
The gardens designed by Le Nôtre and the XVIIIth century circular ice storage room were both inspired by those of Versailles.
Nowadays the castle of Entrecasteaux is among the more important in the Var department.

L'Amiral d'Entrecasteaux was born in 1737. He was sent by King Louis the XVIth to look for La Perouse in the south pacific. He left in 1791 and die of scorbut in 1793 his mission unaccomplished.
Jean Baptiste, marquis d'Entrecasteaux was born in 1761. He murdered his wife in 1784.
Entirely redecorated with genuine antique furniture, tapestries, paintings and wall clocks. The castle is entirely rehabilitated and it's current owner, Alain Gayral, actually lives there.

HISTORY OF FONTANGES
When you arrive in the Hostelerie de Fontanges, wich is a short distance from the old city of the Ruthenes, you will be surprised by the impressive historical residence that has recently been restored and where you will be welcomed as a guest.
Throught the dining room windows, you can enjoy the splendour of the illuminated cathedral clock tower.
Equally surprising is the name of the Chateau
Why Fontanges ?
FONTANGES means : Font Tencha, the source of the red clay of Causse.
The well-informated tourist wiil want to go deeper and know the history of the Château. 
Here are the main facts : 
From 1280, the land belonged to the Balaquier family.
In 1422 the lord of Belcastel, Alzias de Saunhac owned a third of the land, the remaining percentage belonged to the chapter of Rodez.
At the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century some additional parts were added to the Château, for exemple, a stucco chimney was built in the kitchen.
In 1564 a building with a tower was constructed and called "the new house of FONTANGES".
The present Château was built between the end of the 16th and beginning of the 17th century for a rich draper from the city of Rodez, Raymond d'Austry. 
He built the tower on five levels that can still be seen from the central courtyard of the hotel ;
The tower was designed by Pierre Tournie D'Ambec from Rodez, and then Bernard and Antoine Persec from Ste Radegonde continued the work. 
Another mason from Ambec erected a second tower on the Floyrac side with Fraissinhon, a tiler, completing the work. 
On one of the two chimneys, Raymond d'Austry sculpted his coat of arms.
The design is of an ostrich and it reads "figure boufarele de l'Auster ou vent du midi".
In the present dining room of the Château, which was previously the largest room, one can admire the French style ceiling painted by an artist who also decorated the joists of another hotel in Rodez built by Raymond d'Austry that no longer stands.
Unfortunately the murals can no longer be seen. At the time, each space between the windows and the facing walls was decorated in a trompe l'oeil style resembling statues in their alcoves.
Hostellerie de Fontanges
In 1654, the widow of Jean d'Austry who was the President of the Presidial of Rodez rented the estate and took up residence.
The management of the estate passed to the Chartreux then the Jacobins of Rodez who maintained the estate regularly.
The estate was sold as state property on 11 March 1781.
The estimated value was £44.669, it was auctioned off at £77.400 to Descombes, a bourgeois from Truel, parish of Conulet ( Bessuéjouls).

Château de Fontanges (à Onet-le-Château) 

The Château du Bousquet is a castle in the village of Le Bousquet, part of the commune of Laguiole in the Aveyron département of France. The castle is privately owned, but open to the public after 14:30 except on Tuesdays.
Description
The castle, which belonged for four centuries to the Roquefeuil-Blanquefort family, comprises six towers (two hexagonal in the middle of the two front and rear facades, four rounds at each corner). The central tower of the south facade, which contains the staircase is pierced on the ground floor of a radiating Gothic door. The typically feudal and defensive character of the castle is somewhat mitigated by the existence of later windows on the three floors. The defensive system which surrounded it (enclosure, ditch, fortifications) disappeared, replaced by two wings in the 17th century. Inside, the ground floor has kept its kitchen intact, with the mesh stage where the musicians were based. The chapel retains a decoration painted by Debert in 1709.

Château du Bousquet

Château de Galinières is a walled barn situated in the municipality of Pierrefiche in Aveyron. It overlooks the meanders of the Serre valley. The construction of the tower, a square plan tower-loft, begins in 1371. The second floor is said chamber of the Abbot, which retain painted decoration referring vine shoots. In the backyard, the home of storage timber is set against the fortifications; we notice a door arch, a Gothic window and window seats at windows. The building that houses the fold is composed of arcs diaphragms. It belonged to the family Baldit. The threshing floor dates from the early seventeenth century. Fountains, houses for the farm staff complete the package. Galinières barn was the subject of several protections as historical monuments: the barn itself is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since February 13, 1928. The keep (facades and roofs) is the subject of a classification as historical monuments since February 26, 1988. The tower is open to visitors since 1992. Finally, the assembly including the former home of the storage timber, the old barn that was owned by the family Baldit and the threshing floor is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since May 26 1999.
