The history of the castle is very rich; it had always been in the possession of important Czech noble families. It is even possible that it was owned by Emperor Charles IV.
The castle located on two basalt hills (557 m above sea level) used to provide excellent defence against riders. Up to the present time, the remnants of three walls are visible (former tower) and fragments of the walls and contours of the buildings. On the western side, on the vertical rock, there is a little platform that offers a spectacular view of the Jičín region and Český ráj.

Because of massive renovation work, we do not know much about the original look of the castle. At the northeastern side, there are remnants of probably a walled fortification that may have been developed along the whole core structure. The fortification to protect against cannon attack is one of the best examples of the efforts made in the mid 15th century to protect places in an active way. From 1621 Kumburk was in the possession of Albrecht of Valdštejn. After his death, the castle changed hands several times and then, after 1658, Kumburk was nearly destroyed. In spite of that, nowadays it belongs among our most interesting castles.

Kumburk Castle

The Libosad stretches along the north-east edge of Jičín. It is connected with the town by a 2-km linden alley. The chateau and loggia were built by Albrecht von Wallenstein and received a Classicist design after being damaged by a fire. The park surrounding the chateau boasts rare woods.
The Libosad is a park not far to the north-east of Jičín. The first half of the 17th century saw a Carthusian monastery built in Valdice, not far from Jičín. The owner of the Jičín dominion, Albrecht von Wallenstein had a Baroque-style chateau with a large garden and game preserve built between the monastery and Jičín in 1630 - 1634. He also had a four-lane 1.7-km alley from Jičín to the chateau. Around 1000 trees used to grow in the alley. The chateau was reconstructed in the Classicist style before it welcomed the visit of Austrian Emperor Franz I. Later, the chateau was not used and decayed. The Libosad park adjoining the chateau consists of three parts. The upper part of the park immediately behind the chateau boasted a lovely landscaping design with several arbours, fountains and copious flower patches. The lower part of the park, further off the chateau, was used as a utility garden and adjoined the game preserve. The park has both coniferous trees, such as larch, spruce and pine, and deciduous trees. The most interesting species of deciduous trees include the Honey locust, tall White poplar, rare Manna ash as well as the red-leaf beech. The park is a protected area and occupies 2.016 hectares. 
The edge of the Libosad park is approached by a marked hiking route from Jičín. It is possible to stroll through the park along forest paths. If we keep walking along this hiking route, we will reach the town of Valdice with an originally Carthusian monastery converted into a prison. It is also possible to reach Libosad by train as there is a railway station near the park. The western edge of the park features the point of departure of another hiking route heading north-west past the Rumcajs restaurant to the forests of Bohemian Paradise. This hiking route is also open to cyclists. The Valdice brook flows through the eastern part of Libosad and feeds a pond built on the brook in the middle of the game preserve and accessible along a forest path. There is a well-preserved Jewish cemetery not far to the south of the game preserve on the right bank of a pond. We can enjoy the view of the linden alley and Libosad from the Čeřovka observation tower situated at the northern border of Jičín.

Libosad Chateau

A Baroque chateau from the 18th century, rebuilt from the Renaissance Valdštejn chateau on the site of a former Gothic fort by the Counts of Morzin.
There are no typical guided tours but occasional exhibitions and a cycle of cultural events called “Léto na zámku” – Summer at the Chateau are held here.
The chateau in Lomnice nad Popelkou was built in the 16th century on the site of the original fort from the 13th century. In the years 1730 – 1737 it underwent Baroque reconstruction and later on other alterations.
It is a single-storey building with three wings whose side wing adjacent to the square is highlighted by a mansard roof and a rather indented Baroque façade. During the years 2009 – 2010 the chateau underwent reconstruction, and in October 2010 was re-opened.
The Municipal library and Culture and information centre of the town of Lomnice nad Popelkou resides in the building and is at the same time its administrator.

Lomnice nad Popelkou Chateau

The ruin of the rock castle that was named the Pařez - i.e. the Tree Stump, after its shape, is situated at the northwestern side of the Prachovské Skály.
Historic documents first mention the castle in 1403, when the owner was Jan of Pařez.
The rock on which the castle was built is divided with a narrow pass and a cleft in two parts. There was a rectangular tower with a gate at the western edge of the castle, accessible by means of a wooden bridge from the opposite rock. On the top of the rock you can still see imprints of fortifications and foundations of the rectangular tower.

Pařez Castle

Veliš Castle was built on top of Velichovův Vrch around 1300. At that time, it was the strongest castle in Bohemia.
At present, you can see just relics of the bastions, the tower and the western palace that are firmly connected with the basalt base; also, you can identify not very clearly marked access paths and the terraces on the southern top. One can imagine the look of Veliš Castle from the oldest picture on the parchment plan of the Vokšice manor residence elaborated in 1698 by Andreas Bernard Klauser, a surveyor.
The main part of the castle consisted of a large tower covered with a saddle roof with crenellation. From the western and eastern side, there were palaces closed with two smaller towers; the eastern one was connected with the chapel. To the north, there was a forward fort with a gallery and loopholes. The access road to the western gate was protected with palisade.

Veliš Castle

Originally it was a fortress with a simple Renaissance look, which was built by Jan Stráník, whose father bought Studenec in 1584. The fortress was first mentioned in 1623, when it was bought by Albrecht von Wallenstein. Later the building was rebuilt in Baroque style with offices and flats for officials. In 1833, Charles Berger from Bergental rebuilt and extended the fort, modified the interiors and built the southwest wing in pseudo- Renaissance form. After these renovations, the chateau has remained preserved to this day.

Studenec Chateau

Chateau Mladejov came into existence through the expansion of the original fortress on the northern, most elevated part of the town. The first sovereigns date back to the years1358-1444.
Before the year 1533, Mladejov was under the rule of the lordship Velish-Trcek. In 1603 the stately home was acquired by Hynek Kozlovský from Kozlov.
In 1611 a wooden fortress was put into record. In 1623 the fortress was sold to Albrecht von Valdštejn. After the fall of Valdštejn - a change of ownership took place.
1738 Madame Anna Terezie Unwert reconstructed the local manor. The medieval domicile has been retained in the north-western part of the present day's chateau. The medieval presence can be found in the arched cellar and in a part of the brickwork on the ground floor.
In the year 1778 Austrian Emperor Josef II chose chateau Mladejov as his residence during the campaign against Prussia. It remained for 18 days the Austrian headquarters. 
In the year 1792 Mladejov was acquired by the family Pabstmann; in the following period the chateau was often visited by František Josef Gerstner, the first director of the polytechnic institute in Prague. F. J. Gerstner died there in 1832; he is buried in Mladejov's cemetery.
At the beginning of the 20th Century, Chateau Mladejov was acquired by Madame Anna Bláhová, born Haklová. It was rebuilt in 1913 by developer N. Novák. In the beginning of 1949 the entire estate was confiscated by the Czechoslovak state. In the following years, up to communist breakdown in 1989, the chateau was used as an agricultural school and later as a residential school. After the restitution law the chateau was given back, in 1992, to Madame Gabriela Hamacher, the granddaughter of the original owner A. Blahova. 
On January 3rd, 2002, the chateau burned down to the outer walls. The cause was never clarified, but it is certain, that the fire would not have been so devastating if a snow storm would not have struck that night, preventing the elimination of the fire. Thereafter, Madame Gabriela Hamacher with family decided to rebuild the chateau.
In December 2005 the reconstruction was successfully finished.

Mladějov Chateau

The castle was established by Čeněk of Vartenberk in the second half of the 14th century. Two towers were constructed, one on top of each rock, and various residential buildings and outhouses erected between them. Three rings of fortified walls protected the complex. After Čeněk's death the castle came into the possession of King Wenceslas IV, from whom it was acquired by Ota of Bergov, of the Bergov dynasty. Though Ota the Younger of Trosk was a zealous Catholic, it did not stop him raiding the monastery in Opatovice and stealing its famous treasure, which he is said to have hidden in Trosky Castle, supposedly in an underground cellar blocked by a huge boulder. No one could move the boulder, which was eventually covered by scree, permanently cutting off the way to the precious objects.
During the Hussite wars Trosky was a center of the pro-Catholic sides. It is therefore not surprising that in all probability the castle was never completely conquered by the Hussites or any other enemies. As late as 1428, shortly after the castle burned down, it was under siege by Jan Kralovec, captain of the Táborite Army. From 1438 onwards the robber knight Kryštov Šov of Helfenburg and his companion Švejkar settled in it to tyrannize the villagers in the surrounding countryside, before the people of Zhořelec and Žitavy (English Görlitz and Zittau, members of the Lusatian League) banded together to capture them. Margareth of Bergov, the widow of the original owner Ota of Bergov, made Trosky into her residence by 1444. In 1468 the castle was property of William of Hasenburg who kept it until 1497. After that several noble families owned the castle, although its significance declined. In 1648, during the Thirty Years' War, it was burned down completely by the Imperial Army and left in ruins. In 1681 the enlightened Jesuit Bohuslav Balbín visited it; possibly the first documented example of a trip, the sole purpose of which was to research a historical sight or area.
In the 19th century a greater degree of interest was shown and romantic modifications were made to the ruins of the castle. It was decided to create a staircase leading to the Panna tower. Work was begun in 1841–43, but was not completed.

Trosky Castle

In the 16th century, the originally Gothic castle was rebuilt in a representative Renaissance chateau. The best-known and most significant owner was Kryštof Harant of Polžice and Bezdružice (1564-1621), the famous traveller, writer and musician.
The was castle burnt in 1830 and in the course of time it was nearly ruined. At present, it is open to the public.

Pecka Castle

The chateau in Jičíněves was built by František Josef Šlik near a former fortress.
The ground plan of the original Baroque three-storey chateau was square shaped. Later, the chapel dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua and the chapel of the Holy Cross were added. The special layout is completed with a large central block and farm buildings that close the courtyard. There is a well-preserved Empire pavilion (19th century) in the adjacent English-style park.
