Both medieval castles are enthroned high above Taufers im Münstertal. Although they have been unoccupied for a long time and fallen into decay the mysterious ruins of Reichenberg and Rotund still attract adventurers and curious people. Due to its location on a precipitous hill on about 1,500 meters above sea level Rotund ranks among the highest castles throughout Tyrol. It was built in 900 at the bidding of the bishops of Chur and it probably bears its name because of the prominent round donjon. In the 15th century Rotund Castle was renovated and extended. Today it is in possession of the municipality of Taufers im Münstertal, but there is no real owner. Reichenberg Castle was the residence of the same bishops and is located on a steep slope, too, but something deeper than Rotund. After repeatedly changing lords and reeves the building has been no longer inhabited since the end of the 17th century. That’s why many parts of the fortification are decaying, only the mighty keep is preserved. Just as the whole Vinschgau also the environs of Taufers im Münstertal is an ideal terrain for hikers and mountain bikers. Castel Reichenberg (in tedesco Burg Reichenberg) è un castello nel comune di Tubre in Provincia di Bolzano. Cenni storici Costruito dai vescovi di Coira nel XII secolo, nel 1150 fu dato in prestito ai signori von Reichenberg. Questi ultimi erano dei cavalieri che traevano la loro ricchezza da scorribande e ruberie nei paesi vicini e per questo erano molto temuti dalla popolazione. Nel 1373 il castello fu venduto ai signori von Matsch, molto potenti in Val Venosta. Nel 1504 si estinsero e le loro proprietà, compreso il castel Reichenberg, andarono ai von Trapp. Nel 1559 il castello passò ai von Hendl. Dal 1680 non è stato più abitato ed è quindi presto caduto in rovina come oggi si può constatare. Caratteristiche Le rovine si trovano su un rilievo sopra il paese di Tubre a circa 1350 m s.l.m., circa 150 metri più in basso del vicino castel Rotund. Del castello rimangono pochi brandelli di muri e il mastio rotondo, ancora ben conservato e alto 23 metri. Il castello è liberamente visitabile e raggiungibile con un sentiero dal sottostante paese.
