Castello di Bolgheri Winery embraces its storied history and ideal location in order to create a variety of delectable Tuscan Wines enjoyed all over the world. Located on the historic lands of the beautiful 13th century Bolgheri Castle, Castello di Bolgheri Winery boasts 50 hectares of vast vineyards producing Bolgheri DOC wine, made with the grape varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. The vineyards of Castello di Bolgheri are located near the village of Bolgheri, known for creating some of Tuscany’s most celebrated wines. The success of the wine from the region can be attributed to the fact that the vineyards have a south-western sun exposure along with their proximity to the sea, which allows the sea breeze to act as ventilation during the hot summer months. After the grapes have been grown and cultivated, the wine is made and stored in the winery’s cellar which dates back to 1796, where the combination of traditional wine making techniques are fused with modern practices to create a delicious wine. Il castello di Bolgheri è un imponente maniero che si innalza scenograficamente al termine del celebre viale dei Cipressi, nel comune di Castagneto Carducci, in provincia di Livorno. Storia Di origine medioevale, sin dal XIII secolo fu proprietà della famiglia Della Gherardesca. A partire dal XVIII secolo la residenza subì importanti cambiamenti, con la costruzione delle cantine, mentre nel 1895, su disegno di Tito Bellini, la facciata fu ristruttura in stile con la realizzazione della torre merlata in corrispondenza dell'ingresso al paese di Bolgheri.[1] Dalla contessa Alessandra della Gherardesca è passato prima alla figlia, contessa Franca Spalletti Trivelli, e successivamente ereditato dalla nipote. Descrizione Il castello di Bolgheri è costituito da diversi corpi di fabbrica che si snodano attorno al nucleo originario del villaggio, nei pressi dell'antica chiesa dei Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo. L'elemento di maggior impatto è la torre, a pianta rettangolare, caratterizzata da un arco a sesto acuto che dà accesso al borgo; al di sopra è posto lo stemma della famiglia Della Gherardesca, mentre più in alto si aprono due finestre a bifora sovrapposte. Completamente rivestito in mattoni rossi, il prospetto del castello è definito dalla successione di analoghe bifore e monofore su due ordini ed è delimitato alla sommità da una fascia merlata su archetti impostati su beccatelli. L'interno è adibito ad abitazione e non è visitabile.
