Boldogkő Castle, or in English – ‘Happy Stone castle‘ can be seen from a far due to it’s high location on a cliff, the protruding headland which separates it dramatically out of the general view of the vally. The castle is located right next to Boldogkőváralja village.
The book “Walking in Hungary” (By Tom Chrystal & Beáta Dósa”) suggests that it was given the name ‘Happy Stone Castle‘ because it managed to avoid the worst of the Ottoman wars.
Originally built in XIII. Century chateau built. At the Boldogkőer castle were important development work in recent years, was made. The castle houses a mineral exhibition and an exhibition of military history.
