The Château de Nérac is a castle in the Lot-et-Garonne département in southwest France. An edifice of the French Renaissance style, it was finished during the reign of Jeanne d'Albret, the daughter of Marguerite d'Angoulème who was also Marguerite de Navarre by her marriage, (the sister of the king, Francis I of France).
The castle has been listed as a Monument historique since 1862 by the French Ministry of Culture.

The castle overlooks the Baïse river, a tributary the Garonne.
History
An earlier residency from the actual castle belong to Arsieu of Albian in 1088 and later to Amanieu VI of Albret (Labrit), the castle was rebuilt between the 15th and 16th centuries by the House of Albret. The House of Albret became linked to the Kingdom of Navarre after his marriage to Queen Catherine of Navarre (Lescar, 1486) and his crowning as King Jean III of Navarre. The castle was the location of a vibrant court during the life of Jeanne d'Albret, Queen Jeanne III of Navarre, and the youth of Henry III of Navarre, the future Henry IV of France. In 1560, Queen Jeanne III and her court converted to reformed religion after the meeting of Theodore de Bèze, and they welcomed a number of artists, such as Clément Marot.
After the coronation of Henry III of Navarre as King Henry IV of France, the castle was deserted. It was partially destroyed in 1651 by Henry of Lorraine, Duke of Mayenne, after the town revolted against king Louis XIII of France and then dismantled during the French Revolution, excepting the northern part, which is now a museum.

For 700 years, the Château du Fréchou has commanded its naturally defensive site with panoramic views over the Gascon countryside. At the end of the 13th century, it was held jointly by the Cazenoves and the Noalhans. The Comte d’Armagnac and Amanieu d’Albret besieged and captured Fréchou in 1322, in a feudal dispute involving King Edward II of England, Duke of Aquitaine. Having regained possession of the Château, the Noalhans owned it until 1536, when it became the property of the Montpezat family by marriage. In the 1560s, the Château was remodelled by François de Montpezat, Baron de Laugnac and Governor of the Agenais. To him we owe the Renaissance tower and its staircase, as well as the imposing Entrance Gatehouse.
His son and heir, François de Laugnac, sought his fortune at Court at the age of 18. Handsome and charming, he rapidly won King Henri III’s favours and was made Captain of his personal guard, the “Forty-Five”. He thus took the lead in the plot instigated by the King against the Duc de Guise, the leader of the powerful Catholic League financed by Spain. The Duke had royal pretentions, as, thanks to his aunt Marie de Guise, he was first cousin to Mary Queen of Scots (also Queen of France through her marriage with the short-lived François II). On the 23rd of December 1588, François de Laugnac and his men ambushed the Duke at the Château de Blois.
The Duke was murdered and in the turmoil that followed, François fell out of favour with the King. His ambitions shattered, François had to reluctantly withdraw to the Château du Fréchou. Two years later, François was in turn killed by Catholic League soldiers seeking revenge. His brief life was over at the age of just 25, but François nonetheless left an indelible mark on French history by enabling the accession of Henri IV, the famous “Vert Galant”.
A long period of gradual decay and neglect began in the early 17th century as the fortunes of the Château ebbed. At the beginning of the 18th century, Fréchou was inherited by the Monestays, marquis de Chazeron. The Château survived the Revolution, but was sold in 1810. Having become a farm in the 19th century, it became increasingly dilapidated. Partially ruined, it was saved from the 1970s onwards by Michel and Aline Taulet, who undertook its restoration. They left the Château in 2015.

Château du Fréchou 

Le château de Trenqueléon, aussi écrit Trenquelléon ou Trenquéléon, a été construit à Feugarolles, dans le département de Lot-et-Garonne.
Histoire
L'origine du nom de Trenquelléon
En 1253, dans le Cartulaire d'Agen, les frères Bernard et Géraud Trenquelléon, fils d'Odon ou Othon de Lomagne, chevalier, seigneur de Fimarcon, donnent à l'évêque d'Agen les dîmes des paroisses de Saiinte-Marie de Bordères et de Saint-Étienne de Calignac.

Dans un acte daté de 1284 passé entre Jourdain de Lisle et le représentant du roi d'Angleterre dans la résidence d'Othon de Lomagne située à Malolerne, le château de Feugarolles et leurs dépendances, la paroisse de Calézun feront partie, à perpétuité, de la juridiction de la bastide de Vianne.

En 1313, un autre Bernard Trenquelléon de Lomagne, fils et petit-fils de deux Odon ou Othon de Lomagne, tous trois seigneurs de Fimarcon, a épousé Allemane de Cazenove.

Daniel du Broqua ou Broca, baron de Trenquelléon, a épousé Sérène de Rabar, fille de Pierre de Rabar, écuyer, seigneur de Cerveaud et de Montgré, conseiller au parlement de Bordeaux. Il est mort de la peste, d'où :
Joseph du Broqua, écuter,fils aîné du précédent, baron de Trenquelléon, veuf d'Olympe du Puy en 1694, mort en 1703, laissant une fille unique :

Charles de Batz, né en 1754, a été seigneur baron de Trenquelléon, mort en 1815. Il s'est marié le 22 septembre 1787 avec Marie Ursule Caroline, fille de Bernard Joseph, comte de Peyronnec de Saint-Chamarand, d'où :

Charles Polycarpe de Batz, baron de Trenquelléon, né en 1792, marié en 1813 avec Adèle Sérène de Sevin de Ségougnac, d'où :

Après le XIXe siècle
La dernière représentante de la famille de Batz de Trenqueléon, Charlotte (1873-1939), épouse Bélisaire Albigès. Le château passe à leur fille Hélène, épouse Christian de Bentzmann, puis à Ghislaine de Bentzmann, épouse Batiste, puis à Françoise Batiste, épouse de La Raitrie.
Le château
Le château de Trenqueléon a été construit en 1771 par Charles de Batz, baron de Trenquelléon, sur les vestiges d'un château féodal des seigneurs du même nom. La date est inscrite sur la lucarne centrale du pavillon ouest et les initiales C.B.T. sont écrites dans le sol en galets noirs et blancs devant l'entrée.
Le château a d'abord été une motte féodale qui a été la propriété des seigneurs de Fimarcon au milieu du xiiie siècle.
Création du prix Jasmin d'Argent
En juillet 1920 a été créé au château de Trenqueléon le prix Jasmin d'Argent destiné à récompenser un poète chantant l'Amour, la Patrie et la Gascogne en langue française ou en langue d'Oc.
Protection au titre des Monuments historiques
Les façades et les toitures du château ont été inscrites au titre des monuments historiques le 16 février 1951.

Château de Trenqueléon

Built in the 13th century by the Lords of Poudenas who were subjects of Edward the First, a Plantagenet, Duke of Aquitaine and King of England, the chateau of Poudenas defends the valley of the Gelise river fifty meters below at the point where the forest of the Landes begins.
A military fortification until the 16th century, the chateau featured mullioned windows that lit the dungeon on the north and the south. One hundred years later, a complete re-modeling of the interior courtyard created two suspended terraces and the wide façade with a triple arcade reminiscent of an Italian villa with its surrounding landscape.
