Mazières, from the Latin word « Maceriac » that means fortification, indicates quite clearly that there was a stronghold here well before Gallo-Roman times.
The Romans built a sumptuous villa here; some of the remains such as the aqueduct are still to be seen to-day.
During the Middle Ages, in the 12th century, the lord of the manor built an imposing six - storeyed keep with four watchtowers and a stairway dug inside the wall in order to defend the castle against the English invaders during the Hundred Years' War.
These historical touches give Mazières Castle a special charm which no doubt will captivate you as you stroll through the grounds.
Michel and Laurence Levin, who fell in love with this region, will be only too pleased to share their passion for this residence with you - a residence which has great character and which is now completely restored.
Near Argenton-sur-Creuse, called the Venise of Berry, halfway between Châteauroux and its National forest, famous for hunting, and the Brenne Regional Park with its ponds and well preserved flora and fauna, Mazières Castle is really well situated and is just the right place to organize exceptional functions.
