A la croisée des chemins entre Bretagne et Normandie, se dresse le Château de la Rouërie. 
Construit au XVIIème siècle et remanié au XVIIIème par la famille Tuffin de la Rouërie. Ce château est typique de l’architecture classique par sa façade Est, avec ses nombreuses ouvertures, qui lui confère un caractère accueillant et seigneurial, contrairement à sa façade Ouest qui présente beaucoup moins d’ouverture soulignant un aspect plus austère que l’on retrouve parfois en Bretagne.
Classé monument historique depuis 1996, la même famille possède ce château depuis huit générations.
Dans ce Château, habita le dernier marquis de la Rouërie, personnage pittoresque et historique. En 1777, à l’âge de 26 ans, il  s'embarqua pour les Etats unis d'Amérique et s'engagea dès son arrivée dans l'armée américaine. Sur décision du congrès, il  commandera une légion de dragon qu'il créera lui-même avec des volontaires. Il prit une part active dans de nombreuses batailles  aux cotés des insurgents, notamment Short hills où il capturera un détachement anglais. La fameuse bataille de Yorktown sonne  le glas de la presence anglaise en Amérique et permet à La Rouërie, Washington aidé par Rochambeau et La Fayette de s'illustrer par le combat, en faisant capituler l'armée du général Cornwallis.
Cette victoire marqua la fin de la guerre d'indépendance américaine.
Décoré et élevé au grade de brigadier général de l'armée américaine par son ami George Washington lui-même,
Le colonel Armand quitta Philadelphie pour la France en mai 1784.
A son retour en France il se mit au service de la Bretagne et du roi Louis XVI. Promu colonel commandant un régiment de  chasseurs, il fut élu délégué de la noblesse au parlement de Bretagne. La révolution naissante puis grondante le poussèrent à organiser une résistance : "la chouannerie bretonne"mais sa mort prématurée le 30 janvier 1793 brisa son destin.

Château de la Rouërie

The Ducey domain came into the hands of the old Norman Montgommery family in 1521 after the wedding of James Montgommery to Claude de la Boissière, the heiress to the lands of Ducey. The castle was built at the beginning of the 17th century by Gabriel II de Montgommery, one of the sons of Montgommery first who became famous for killing Henry II, king of France, by accident in a tournament on 30th June 1559. He converted to Protestantism and became one of the greatest Protestant Chiefs in the area. Gabriel caused the hatred of Catherine de Medicis and was beheaded on the Place des Grèves on 26 th June 1574. Gabriel II de Montgommery was born in 1565 an inherited the lands of Ducey. Following his father's example, he became the chief of the Protestants in the Avranches area.
