Description

The mansion was built in the 17th century probably on the site of an older Gothic fortress, although construction-historical research has shown that the building does not have Gothic foundations, but looking at the depth of research does not exclude the existence of the previous Gothic type or castle. The mansion was originally Renaissance, but in the 19th century it was rebuilt in the style of a medieval Romanesque castle. In the middle of the mansion was once a ceremonial hall where celebrations and banquets were organized. It was adorned with magnificent arches that stretched to the top of the tower. The fortified core was closed by another building. Several towers grew on it, including the corner tower of Nebojsa, surrounded by a moat and equipped with a drawbridge.

History

Although some sources refer to this building as a knight's castle, the architectural architecture is more of a manor house, although it was probably a medieval Gothic stone castle (in the 15th century), around which the floor plan of today's manor house developed. The Renaissance fortified manor house with corner towers was built on these late Gothic foundations sometime after 1663. By the beginning of the 18th century, the manor house was abandoned and dilapidated.

In the 18th century, Skýcov became the property of the Keglevich family, and from 1812 the manor house became the property of the Odescalchi family (Prince Furst August Odescalchi). The manor house, which burned down in 1886, was rebuilt in 1888 in the style of a medieval castle. It was then owned by Prince Arthur Odescalchi (Augustus' son) and with the help of Italian masons and stonemasons he had the manor house rebuilt, surrounded by a moat and drawbridge. It was repaired by preserving the torso shape and romantic construction of a pseudo-Romanesque palace in the manner of a residential tower.

In 1893, the entire property was bought by Archduke Augustine of Habsburg of Topoľčianky, who annexed it to his Topoľčiansky estate. Augustine of Habsburg owned the property until 1920. In 1920, the entire property, together with the manor house, became state-owned.

The Skýcov manor house was burned down during the Second World War. After the war, however, it was only partially rebuilt and stood in ruins for a long time.

The manor house began to be reconstructed again before 1989. After that, however, the work slowed down to a halt. Eventually, the manor house became privately owned and the manor house is probably being restored for hotel purposes.
