History

The original crusader castle was built by the crusaders of the Holy Sepulcher, who settled in the territory of Chmeľov at the end of the 12th century. In the mid-forties of the fifteenth century, Chmeľov was seized by brothers, a movement composed of former Hussite warriors. Their group took over the mentioned castle, but they wanted to insure their better protection against invading enemies by building another fortress. About 180 meters above Bobovár, on the Zadňa hura hill, another castle was built of stone material.

After the establishment of the military fortress, the brothers took control of the surroundings of Chmeľov, but in 1460 they were forced to retreat before Matej Korvín. Their "expansion" ends after an agreement with the king to leave the castle and destroy it.

However, the original castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance manor house at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries, and until the nineteenth century it was inhabited by several important families. It was modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was last rebuilt by the Fehérváry family.

After the Second World War, the building served as a school. It is characterized by a garden with historic greenery. Since 1994, the manor house has been a national cultural monument, but it does not belong to the municipality, but to a private individual, it is owned by the company Panra-Karpatia.
