In the heart of the forest, at 815 meters altitude, where the clean air, very rich in ozone, which fills your lungs, almost makes you dizzy, is the hunting castle Lăpușna.
The castle was built between 1925 and 1926, at the request of King Ferdinand, but the works continued in the following years, being completed and decorated in 1933.
Impressive, enigmatic, full of history , with a traditional Romanian architecture, it hosted the royal family, and the hunting parties attracted well-known communist leaders, such as Khrushchev, Zhivkov, Tito. Nicolae Ceausescu also came here frequently. The guest of Lăpușna Castle was also the writer Mihail Sadoveanu, passionate about hunting and fishing, for whom a chess table was specially made (the game of chess was another passion of the writer). Later, the chess and billiard tables are joined by the shuba, a Russian game, Elena Ceausescu's favorite.
At the main entrance you are greeted by stained glass windows with defining aspects for the area (such as hunting, shepherding, harvesting), and on the main hall is the deer shot by Ceausescu in Tulgheș (Harghita) on September 23, 1966. Wood, which covers and decorates the interior is ubiquitous : the floors, the furniture, including the ceiling and the walls are covered in stained spruce wood, 90 years old, impeccably preserved and carefully carved - a very difficult work to do, because the spruce is easily chipped. The solid wood, the "star" material, is completed by heavy wrought iron chandeliers and unique terracotta, ordered in Vienna. The double glazed glass windows (air bubbles can be seen) are handcrafted at Glăjărie. The interior finishes were made with local craftsmen from Reghin, famous in their time (Muller Gustav, Golner Adolf, Karl Schneidorfer). Upstairs are the royal chambers, with the royal insignia above them. The queen's room does not lack a hard wooden bench, which Queen Maria used to sit on because she had back problems.
The Royal Hunting Castle from Lăpușna is currently introduced in the tourist circuit and has a capacity of 40 accommodation places.
