Pokol Castle was built in 1903. Elek Alexiu or pokol of Lozna, teacher, opened in 1892, the first primary school religious courses in the neighborhood. School building belonged to a widow Maria Vancea, later wife of the teacher. By the marriage, Pokol became the owner of me. He left education and dedicated himself to the exploitation of gold. After eight years of unnecessary searches, he called on the workers to fire them.

The workers gave up wages, and after a month of digging, they found the first 75kg gold block. In 1902, they pulled 4,000 kilograms of gold. Overnight became rich. He offered 3.6 kg gold crown Queen Mary, built a church and helped several initiatives. It was also a gaming enthusiast, spent money in casinos in Vienna. During the war, his wealth fell even further. In 1928, the castle and mine passed into the ownership of a mining company. In 1930 the castle was sold to the Swiss industrialist E.Boissanos.

Pokol the early 1930s had only a house and a car. He died in 1935. After nationalization in 1948 the castle was kindergarten, school and housing after 89 children were placed in institutions here. In 2012 it is the property of the County Council. Castle until 1962 was well preserved, paintings, decorations and tiled stoves. Then everything disappeared and hardly can find traces of the once luxury.

A memorial table informs us that the historian, academician and later Prime Minister Nicolae Iorga was hosted in the house of Pokol, owner of me and mayor of Baia Mare, in 1905.
