The castle was built in 1338 by Ludek von Wedel, but earlier in Tuczyn, though perhaps in a different place, there was probably a defensive brick headquarters of the Wielkopolska Castellan. The headquarters of the Wielkopolska 1296 he won the Hasso von Wedel.

Gothic castle of King Ludwig von Wedel had a plan quadrangle courtyard was surrounded on three sides by the castle wall to a height of 7 meters, and to the east there was a residential wing with dimensions of 35x15 meters. The entrance to the castle was located in the northern section of the walls. Castle in the Middle Ages constituted one of the strongest fortresses in the Western.

In the fifteenth century was the first expansion of assumptions - built a new building at the western stretch of the ramparts. The new wing was not large, was the plan of a rectangle measuring 8x11 meters, was the basement. In the years 1542-1581 Stanislaw Wedel-Tuczyński Gothic stronghold rebuilt into a Renaissance residence, then demolished medieval eastern wing, and on its foundations and cellars built building with corner towers. Facades are decorated with sgraffito decorations that exist today partially preserved and partially reconstructed.

In the years 1608-1631 Krzysztof Wedel-Tuczyński extended the castle for another two wings - the south and west, and north-western corner tower was erected a third party.

Another reconstruction of the seventeenth century Baroque features suitable residence, the castle ceased to then act as defensive as it was demolished last northern section of the wall. Small reconstruction made ​​Wedelowie-Tuczyńscy even in the first years of the eighteenth century, when converted stately façade południoweo wing with the main entrance to the castle, which was decorated with projection and decorative portal.

In 1717 he died last representative Tuczyński line Wedelów Andrew. Castle neglected by successive owners slowly declined. In 1736 he was already devastated, but time used it yet in the second half of the eighteenth century. After the partition of Polish in 1772 Tuczno became part of Prussia. In 1846 the castle was renovated. The west wing was demolished and built over the foundations from the ground, the other wing was restored with minor changes. Tower northwestern yet received one floor. However, by the end of the nineteenth century, the castle had again zniszczeć. In 1903, the mayor Tuczna wrote to the authorities the need to protect unused buildings already castle. The castle was partially adapted for hospital purposes.

During the Second World War the castle hill there were shelters, which in the end of the war were blown up, and the lock was also damaged. Still partially used after the war the castle was in 1947 affected by a fire that completely destroyed the buildings.
