There is no clear view of the castle hill Tenczyn time. Probably Andrew crest ax about half of the fourteenth century, completed the construction of a brick headquarters. Starting from the beginning of the fifteenth century, it was often mentioned in documents from that time also are known for its burgrabiowie. From Andrew starts family line uses the names Tęczyńska. In the fifteenth century Tęczyńskis extended the castle. From the south tower was enlarged to form a quadrilateral of the gate tower called bobbins, in the north-west corner, a new building with a residential tower functions. The east wing has been expanded and served as representative, extended them to the gate tower. Apartment owners were located in the north wing. At the turn of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, there was another development, during which the gate tower was built between the eastern side of the chapel, which previously fulfilled the function room above the gatehouse passing. The castle was also increased by a lower portion extending along the southern and western section of the outer walls.
Around 1570, the era of John Tęczyński, the castle was rebuilt in Renaissance style and shortly afterwards the lower part of the fortifications strengthened bastejowo-bastion. The entrance led the north-western corner by a circular Gatehouse territory of the bastion along the lower castle and the square tower of the upper castle. The upper castle courtyard surrounded by cloisters.
After the death of the governor of Krakow John, the last male representative of the family, the castle passed along with the hand of his daughter Izabela in 1639 on the property of Luke Opaliński. The castle became the administrative center of the surrounding estates Opaliński who did not live here. During the Swedish invasion of lock no fights he got into the hands of the Swedes, who burned him retreating.
Attempts to rebuild by subsequent owners have not restored the fortress former glory. Owners were Sieniawskis, Czartoryski and the Potocki.
In 1768, in the castle was struck by lightning, of which he was the fire that destroyed the castle again to the extent that it was finally abandoned by the owners. In the early twentieth century attempted to protect the ruins from further damage, and after the Second World War, the work was completed.
