Description

Schorels Castle lies in a forest, north of the village of Eschette in Luxembourg.

The castle is built on a, ca. 25 meters high, rocky spur between two brooks. It consisted of a rectangular building with a defensive wall close around it. There probably was a gate tower at its southern end. A 5 meters deep and 14 meters wide dry moat protected the north side of the castle.

The castle was property of the Lords of Useldange or the Lords of Esch-sur-Sûre. Later the castle was property of the Post family who probably achieved it by marriage. The castle was donated to the Luxembourg State by descendants of the Post family after they had recieved a tax notice on the castle during WWII.

This is truly a forgotten ruin. It's a little bit hard to find but that only adds to the pleasure of finding it. It's a very nice walk up to the castle ruins, which are very much overgrown.
