Description

The castle was one of the many residences of the Savoia from 1792 to 1870 it is now a palace of the town. This palace perched on a hill had the antecedent a medieval fortress. At the end of the seventeenth century. the Solaro family commissioned Guarino Guarini to enlarge the castle and embellish it, but works were not carried out. A century later, the architect Benedetto Alfieri resumed the designs of Guarini and led the futures work. The Savoia acquired the palace in 1792 and became one of their summer residences. In the early nineteenth century., King Carlo Felice and his wife Maria Christina transformed the palace on their own plans. The building has a theatrical honor entrance, with its double staircase, its beautiful reliefs and atlases from the palace gardens of the Venaria Reale. It contains beautiful rooms, especially the rooms decorated with beautiful wallpapers "Chinese". The ballroom is decorated with frescoes by Luigi Vacca and Fabrizio Sevesi telling the mythological episode of Niobe. It is also realized that the frescoes in trompe-l'oeil of the grand salon, which give the impression of the presence of statues.
