The castle was one of the many residences of the Savoia from 1792 to 1870 it is now a palace of the town. This palace perched on a hill had the antecedent a medieval fortress. At the end of the seventeenth century. the Solaro family commissioned Guarino Guarini to enlarge the castle and embellish it, but works were not carried out. A century later, the architect Benedetto Alfieri resumed the designs of Guarini and led the futures work. The Savoia acquired the palace in 1792 and became one of their summer residences. In the early nineteenth century., King Carlo Felice and his wife Maria Christina transformed the palace on their own plans. The building has a theatrical honor entrance, with its double staircase, its beautiful reliefs and atlases from the palace gardens of the Venaria Reale. It contains beautiful rooms, especially the rooms decorated with beautiful wallpapers "Chinese". The ballroom is decorated with frescoes by Luigi Vacca and Fabrizio Sevesi telling the mythological episode of Niobe. It is also realized that the frescoes in trompe-l'oeil of the grand salon, which give the impression of the presence of statues.

Surrounded by a large park, the Costigliole Castle (Castello di Costigliole d’Asti) dominates the town. It was built during the 14th and 15th centuries and only later was it restructured to its present Gothic-like form. Property of the Marquis Filippo Asinari, a politician and refined wine connoisseur, the manor was the home of the Countess of Castiglione who was clever in politics and in relationships and was considered one of the century’s most beautiful women. Since 1994, the castle has been the seat of the Cultural Park of the Grinzane Cavour Prize which, with the support of the Piedmont Region, works to promote all aspects of the territory, developing debate between concrete culture and literature. The castle also houses a National Museum of the Territory, intended as a place to promote the literary, historical, architectural, and anthropological heritage of southern Piedmont. City owned, it houses an international cooking school and, every year, the “the Barbera auction”, which, at this point, has become a not-to-be-missed event for wine lovers.

The Costigliole Castle (Castello di Costigliole d’Asti)

The Burio Castle is the second largest manor costigliolese territory. From an architectural point of view it presents typical forms of medieval fortifications Asti. 

Over the centuries gradually lost its original military vocation, becoming exclusively a center of administration of the surrounding estates. After falling into neglect, it has been restored since 1980 by the current owners. 

Asti was owned by several families, among which should be mentioned the Lanzavecchia. It became a private dwelling is used as a place of cultural and artistic events.

The Burio Castle 

The Castle of Grinzane Cavour is a fortification in Grinzane Cavour, Piedmont, northern Italy.

On 22 June 2014, the castle of Grinzane Cavour was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage list.
History
Mentions of the castle's early history are extremely scarce, and its origins have been variously assigned to the 13th century or to around 1350. The castle includes a large tower, which is thought to be the most ancient part of the construction; the rest of the body has similar features, and therefore it is likely that it was built in the same age.[2]

In the 15th century, the castle and the surrounding were owned by the marquis of Busca, whose heraldic symbols have been found in some rooms, under later plasterings. It was later under several lords, the most famous of which was, in the mid-19th century, Camillo Benso, Conte di Cavour, who resided here starting from 1830. Cavour restored the construction and improved the vine cultivations in the area. In 1832 he became mayor of Grinzane, a position he held until 1849. Cavour was also known as the architect of the Unification of Italy.

The castle currently houses an ethnological museum with original furniture items from the 19th century, and rooms dedicated to Cavour's stay and to Italian wine production. The castle also contains the Cavour Regional Enoteca, created in 1967 to showcase the wines of the famous Langhe region of Piedmont - in particular the Barbaresco and Barolo wines, as well as the Michelin Star restaurant, Marc Lanteri Al Castello.

Description
The castle has a rectangular plan and a massive appearance, with a large keep, occupying a whole wing, and a U-shaped structure with a series of turrets: two square and two rounded, the latter, added in the 16th century, being pensile.

There are a series of rooms, one of which, called Sala delle Maschere ("Masques Hall"), has a ceiling decorated with 157 panels featuring coat of arms, animals and allegory images celebrating the marriage of Pietrino Falletti, who owned the castle in 1517.

In 2010 a new building was inaugurated. It houses educational rooms and a hall used for meetings.

In addition the castle contains an enoteca (wine cellar), a cafe and a restaurant.




Castello di Grinzane Cavour

Il castello di Pollenzo (in piemontese ël castel ëd Polens) è situato a Pollenzo, frazione di Bra (CN).

È una delle residenze sabaude riconosciute nel 1997 dall'UNESCO come patrimonio dell'umanità, nel sistema di castelli, palazzi ed edifici pubblici sorti per iniziativa dei duchi, dei principi e dei re della Casa Savoia, nei suoi differenti rami, tra cui, principalmente il ramo Savoia-Carignano, da cui proviene il re di Sardegna Carlo Alberto.
Storia
Nella storia bimillearia di Pollenzo ("Pollentia" per i romani) sono stati costruiti e distrutti più volte fortificazioni, castelli e chiese.

Residenza feudale e rinascimentale
L'antica Pollenzo (il Museo di Bra - compreso nel circuito dei Castelli Aperti - espone reperti di epoca romana e altomedievale provenienti dagli scavi archeologici del sito), dopo aspre contese - nei secoli XII-XIII - tra i maggiori comuni del Basso Piemonte, che portarono alla sua completa distruzione, diventa sede di contea del patrizio visconteo Antonio Porro, che promuove la costruzione di un castello ad opera dell'ingegnere Andrea da Modena nel 1386; trascorsi pochi decenni, la rocca si trasforma in prestigiosa residenza feudale dei marchesi di Romagnano. Questi, nella seconda metà del Cinquecento, avvieranno un profondo rinnovamento del castello su modelli manieristi, che vanno messi in sistema con le coeve architetture del Saviglianese e del Saluzzese, oltre ad Alba e Casale Monferrato: pochi reperti scultorei e, maggiormente, i documenti, hanno consentito di ricostruire una superba fase storico-artistica destinata ad essere completamente cancellata tra gli anni 1832 e 1847.

Trasformazioni carloalbertine
Il caso di Pollenzo in quegli anni sarà sintomatico della particolare visione romantica del committente - il re Carlo Alberto - anche per il mezzo dei suoi artisti indirizzati ad un revival gotico ormai lontano dai modelli di Horace Walpole: gli interventi dell'epoca carloalbertina comportarono la completa distruzione della maggior parte del borgo di epoca medievale e protomoderna, con la più parte degli insediamenti rurali e difensivi trecenteschi, della chiesa di San Vittore, del tessuto infrastrutturale del luogo (la viabilità interna ed esterna, i quattro "porti" tra Pollenzo, l'Isola e la sponda destra del Tanaro), ma alla fin fine anche del castello, sia dell'esterno - di cui resta intatto o quasi il solo donjon - che dell'interno; tutto questo nel nome della celebrazione di un ricreato medioevo, ma con frequenti e diffusi elementi di contraddizione nella forma classicheggiante più sfarzosa, idealizzata dall'architetto Pelagio Palagi.

Assieme al Palagi collaborarono, per gli edifici, l'architetto Ernesto Melano e, per il nuovo parco, l'architetto Xavier Kurten.

Il risvolto positivo dell'intervento sabaudo a Pollenzo è che le nuove realizzazioni vedono impegnati artisti che perseguono una forma progettata, per il nuovo aggregato così come per ogni minuto manufatto: è ciò che si è potuto qui affrontare, indagando le opere di Pelagio Palagi (di cui è stato anche rintracciato, nell'archivio palagiano dell'Archiginnasio di Bologna, il "vero" progetto neogotico, non realizzato, per le facciate del castello), di Ernesto Melano, di Carlo Bellosio, del Moncalvo e di Giuseppe II Gaggini. Con questi artisti, cui il sovrano demandò la riplasmazione dell'intera Pollenzo, fu chiamato a lavorare uno stuolo di altri artisti ed artigiani di grande professionalità (tra cui Pietro Cremona), che collaborarono per creare la nuova immagine del borgo, con la sua piazza con fontana, la sua chiesa, la cascina Albertina, il castello, e, fondamentalmente, la sua Agenzia.

Castello di Pollenzo

Slender and majestic, the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba overshadows one of the most beautiful and historically intact villages of the Langhe, surrounded by the rolling hills of Barolo vineyards. Considered to be one of the best-conserved examples of 14th century noble castles in Piedmont, this castle represents a unique piece of history in Italy with an architectural structure of a French donjon.

The castle's construction was carried out between 1340 – the year in which the Falletti family received its estate as recompense for military involvement – and continued until 1357. This information is gleaned from documents that register a sale carried out in one of the castle rooms.

The fact that it was never the object of military importance nor was it structurally transformed over the centuries has kept this castle unaltered. Its Medieval fortress is, in fact, the original structure.
Instead of military use, this castle was used throughout the centuries as a point of control over the production activities in the territory, as evidenced by its imposing, vertical stance that was intended to emphasize the prestige of the Falletti family.

At the end of the 1300s, the castle was complete with its palacium, the long and compact principle building, and large rooms superimposed upon one another for delegation duties and living space. Its large cylindrical tower was also already constructed, as was the rooftop that affords an incredible view today, but was primarily a status symbol at the time. The courtyard at its quadrangular base is characterized by a drawbridge.

The ample area of the palacium at the courtyard level was the seat of public affairs where the lord of the castle administrated justice. The room is characterized with its wooden roof and the small votive chapel with frescoes from the 15th century. The upper room was for living and has three fireplaces and even a latrine carved into a special space in the wall, a relative comfort for that period. On the third floor is a hidden parapet, initially open and protected by merlons, today covered with a roof.
From the windows of the third floor, visitors can admire the spectacular view of the Langhe from its vineyard-covered hills to the snow-topped Alps, a panoramic scene that is especially breathtaking on clear days.

The castle has been the property of the State since 1949 by its purchase by the Opera Pia Barolo, the institution created by Juliette Colbert, the wife of Carlo Tancredi and the last Marchesa of the Falletti family of Barolo (better known as Giulia). Between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s, it seems that the care of the castle on the part of Opera Pia was of less concern than the castle's more productive use: for many years, the rooms of the castle were used as storage for agricultural products. Immediately after World War II the castle was purchased by the State, and remains its property today under the Superintendence for Architectural and Landscape Heritage in Piedmont.

In 2015 the castle was given to the Polo Museale of Piemonte. The management is currently entrusted to the Barolo & Castles Foundation awarded the tender issued by the Polo Museale of Piemonte.

Castle of Serralunga d'Alba 

Monastero Bormida is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Asti in the Italian region Piedmont. It is located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) southeast of Turin and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Asti.

Monastero Bormida borders the following municipalities: Bistagno, Bubbio, Cassinasco, Denice, Loazzolo, Ponti, Roccaverano, and Sessame. It is home to a castle, located near the Bormida river, which originated as an abbey founded around 1050 (whence the town's name), and which has mosaics and frescoes in the interior. There is also a Romanesque bridge crossing the same river.
