The Castle is the main residence, a defensive building of medieval origin dating from the 9th Century, part of the historical houses “di Eccellenza”.
The current compound is the result of a careful restoration work by architect Piero Portaluppi, between 1941 and 1942.
The inner colonnade of the garden and the apse of one portal, coming from the monastery of the Stigmativi in Verona, date back to the 16th Century.
The property includes:
– the Castle, of about 842 sqm, over four floors in addition to a cellar and attic;
– an ancient cottage, of about 460 sqm, split in two apartments;
– a small villa, of about 360 sqm, also split in two apartments of which one is fully renovated in a modern twist;
– a fascinating spinning mill of about 480 sqm (in need of restoration).
All this is immersed in a 8.400 sqm park, surrounded by ancient walls, other historical findings and works by Portaluppi himself, filled with secular plants perfectly cured, in addition to a disused tennis court.

Fahlburg Castle in Prissiano used to be a defensive building and has been renovated in the 17th century.
In the 13th century Castel Fahlburg, located in the low mountain range of Prissiano, has been established as defensive castle. The building was owned by the masters von Zobel and was known as “Turm zu Vall” (Turm = tower). From the original building, today only the tower is left. At the end of the 16th century, Jakob Andrä von Brandis purchased the castle and around 1615 it has been changed into a Renaissance castle. Fahlburg Castle served as summer residence for the Counts von Brandis and was seat of the court.

The Renaissance elements have been preserved up to present times. Inside the castle the panelling, masonry heater and other spruce items as well as a ceiling painting by Stefan Kessler are very well preserved. Also a two-storey chapel is part of the castle complex. By the way: in Fahlburg Castle the first grounds for Tyrolean writing of history were made, as this is where the significant work “Geschichte der Landeshauptleute von Tirol” was created by Jakob Andrä Brandis.

The family von Brandis is still today owner of the listed building. Fahlburg Castle is one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles of South Tyrol and is a popular location for events, such as exhibitions and weddings. Up until recently, the castle also hosted a small restaurant.

Fahlburg Castle

Sant’Erasmo Castle above Prissiano glances down on Val d’Adige from its enthroned position.
Castel Sant’Erasmo is an imposing construction, located at the top of a hill. Two quadrangular residential towers characterise the building, one of them served for defending the castle. Round-arched windows, wide staircases, frescos and other decorative elements make this castle a real treasure. The chapel has been established in detached position right behind the entrance of Sant’Erasmo Castle. It dates back to the 15th century. In the 17th century it has been changed and a great wonderful fresco was added.

Already in 1229 Sant’Erasmo Castle (Wehrburg in German) has been mentioned for the first time. Back then the castle was in possession of the Counts von Wehrburg-Andrian. In 1411 the Morandin family succeeded in getting the castle back. This family became extinct in 1798 and the castle increasingly deteriorated. Around 1900 finally a count from Hungary purchased the estate and restored Sant’Erasmo Castle.

After WWI the Englishman Artur Rudston Brown acquired the castle and sold it to an inhabitant of Prissiano at the end of the 20th century, the owner of the “Zum Mohren” inn. He changed the castle into a hotel. For this reason only the courtyard of Castel Sant’Erasmo is open to public.

Sant’Erasmo Castle

Castel Maggio (in tedesco Mayenburg) è un castello medievale che si trova a Foiana (Völlan), frazione del comune di Lana in Alto Adige.
Cenni storici
I primi documenti riguardanti il castello risalgono al 1241, ma il luogo in cui sorge probabilmente ospitava una fortezza già in epoca preistorica o romana, vista la notevole posizione strategica.

Inizialmente doveva far parte del sistema di fortificazioni difensive dei conti di Appiano ma, dopo la loro caduta, passò ai conti di Tirolo nel 1253.

Nel 1358 si estinse la famiglia dei Mayenburg, che fino ad allora aveva avuto il castello in feudo. Esso passò quindi di mano in mano finché nel 1600 (o nel 1648 secondo altri) divenne di proprietà dei conti Brandis.

Col tempo però il castello perse di importanza e nel 1814 fu venduto a dei contadini del luogo, cosa che ne sancì la definitiva rovina.

In seguito un medico meranese, Josef Auffinger, lo comprò e inizio un limitato restauro per evitarne ulteriori crolli.

Struttura
Il castello è circondato da una cinta muraria all'interno della quale si trovano due ampi cortili, il palazzo residenziale, il mastio, la cappella e altri edifici minori.

Tranne il mastio, gli altri edifici sono ormai senza tetto e ridotti alle sole mura perimetrali. Nella cappella sono presenti tracce di affreschi risalenti al XV secolo.

Il castello è normalmente chiuso e non visitabile

Castel Maggio

History
Castel Nehaus, also known as Castel Casanova, has a very lively history. Erected between 1241 and 1248 in the territory that Kunigunde, wife of Emperor Henry II, had donated to the Diocese of Bamberg, it was from this last date in fief to the Lords of Tures (Taufers). Beginning in 1504, a succession of property passages begins, during which the manor house will be owned by the Neuhaus families from Bressanone, Teutenhofen, Kunkl and Soll Von Aichberg.

To date, the imposing square-shaped keep, a portion of perimeter walls and a tract of an artificial moat that served as a defensive outpost remain from the original core of the complex. During the nineteenth century the entire structure was subjected to heavy rearrangements to make it look more romantic according to the fashion of the time, but despite this the main elements were not erased.

Throughout its long life, Neuhaus Castle has housed within its walls illustrious personalities: the poet Oswald von Wolkenstein, who lived here for a few years, the Bacher family of artists who for almost a century had his artistic laboratory here and finally, during the second world war, the famous American poet Ezra Pound found refuge in the castle with his family.

Castel Neuhaus is during the summer season an important meeting point for numerous international artists and home to various theatrical and musical events. Elegant rooms with solid wood ceilings and decorated with antique paintings are available for weddings and other ceremonies. Those who stay here will find a well-deserved rest in one of the comfortable bedrooms with services and breathtaking panoramic views and can then taste fine wines and experience local gastronomic specialties.

Castello Neuhaus

The ruins of the Boymont castle are situated on a rocky ridge above Missiano. This romanic structure stands out because of its unusual rectangular, clear cut and straight lines. Even though the structure was fortified to a certain extent it was mainly used as a residence.  The castle was built between 1220 and 1230 by the Counts of Appiano and was then given to the Boymont and the Korb family as a fief. About two centuries later the castle was inherited by Ulrich Kässler, the secretary of the Duke Frederick IV, also known as Frederick of the empty pockets. Some years later proabably due to a fire that was started over hereditary disputes the castle burnt down and was not rebuilt. In 1977 thanks to the new owner, Fritz Dellago, the castle was rebuilt. Today, in the courtyard of the castle, a restaurant has been opened and visitors can admire the big arched windows and the remains of what used to be the chapel.

the Boymont castle 

The keep, which dominates the entire structure, was erected in 1236 by the Lords von Korb. This family was part of the ministerial line of the Counts of Appiano. Following the property passed as a fiefdom to various families in the area. In 1834 a certain Mr. Johann von Puter bought the castle and had it enlarged with a small chapel. He also had the various elements decorated with merlons, very typical for the Roman period.

In 1877 the castle was sold to the German von Tessmann family. The son, Friedrich von Tessmann, was a well-known scholar of Tyrolean history and culture, and he is responsible for the library collection he donated to the province afterwards.

In 1918 the Dellago family bought Castel Corba, which transformed the hotel over the years into a hotel. In addition, the structure was also expanded with a farm, a restaurant and a cellar.

Castel Corba was originally a small fortress, also called "fixed house". The most recently constructed buildings are part of an expansion all in the romantic style of the time. On the facades we can see the mullioned windows with round arches, architraved with central column and capital and also the round-arched door with architrave.

Located just outside the town of Appiano, in a green valley designed by rows of vines and orchards located between the peaks of the Dolomites, here are two medieval castles, a few tens of meters from each other. Castel Corba and Castel Boymont, both belonging to the Dellago family, who used them to welcome guests in the most ancient of South Tyrolean traditions. Schloss Korb has thus become an elegant four-star hotel, the other castle an original meeting place outdoors or for picnics.

In a harmonious synthesis between ancient and modern, Schloss Korb offers various types of accommodation, suitable for every need. From the smaller and simpler attic rooms to the spacious ones located both in the castle and in the newly built part, ending with the apartments and the comfortable suites of the medieval tower. In all the rooms a refined romantic touch coexists with the traditional alpine style, with bedrooms and rooms covered in wood paneling. Next to the central body there is a wellness area with a large indoor pool, a single and family sauna and a massage room. In the park there are also another swimming pool, two clay tennis courts and a play area for children.

Castel Corba

Castel Verruca (in tedesco: Fragsburg) è il castello più alto di Merano (BZ), a 727 metri sul livello del mare. Sovrasta la frazione di Sinigo (Sinich), con un'ampia vista sulla conca meranese.
Descrizione
Il luogo dove sorge il castello era probabilmente fortificato già in epoca preistorica e forse in epoca romana. Il maniero fu costruito nella seconda metà del XIII secolo da Otto von Auer, feudatario dei conti di Tirolo.

Nel 1479, quando fu acquistato dai Niederthor, cominciò una radicale trasformazione che ebbe il suo massimo a metà del XVI secolo.

Il castello passò di proprietario in proprietario. Nel 1620 i patrizi meranesi Memminger fecero costruire la parte principale del palazzo che si vede ancor oggi, che fu adibita a palazzina di caccia. Un'ulteriore trasformazione fu effettuata a metà del XIX secolo.

Nel 1904 i conti Deuster di Kitzingen lo trasformarono in un hotel, facendo aprire a proprie spese la strada che ancora oggi lo congiunge alla città.

Dopo l'annessione dell'Alto Adige all'Italia, il castello venne espropriato - come il non lontano castel Trauttmansdorff - a favore dell'Opera Nazionale Combattenti, che lo utilizzò come colonia.

Durante la seconda guerra mondiale è andato perduto tutto il mobilio originale, ad eccezione di quello della cappella e di altre due sale, che si è parzialmente salvato.

Nel secondo dopoguerra fu acquistato da privati e nuovamente adibito ad albergo.

Nel 2001 è stato completamente restaurato e a dicembre 2015 viene messo all'asta per 7 milioni di euro.

Castel Verruca

Monteleone Castle (Lebenberg in German) is a splendid castle amidst colourful vineyards high above the municipality of Cermes. It is deemed to be the landmark of the village. Doing a hike along the Marlengo Waalweg path you have a fantastic view on the castle.

Built in the 13th century by the Lords of Marlengo (Marling), Monteleone Castle is one of the most beautiful and biggest fully furnished castles in private hands in South Tyrol. 1426 the castle passed from the Lords of Marlengo to the Lords von Fuchs. They owned it up to the 19th century. Nowadays the castle belongs to the van Rossem family and is open to the public.

Lovers of culture and architecture can look forward for instance to the three-floors high St. Stephan chapel of the 14th century, picturesque inner courtyards, a French flower garden and a Venetian hall of mirrors, dating back to the rococo era. Worth seeing are also the hall of knights and the hall of arms. Moreover some valuable Gothic frescoes have been rediscovered. Monteleone Castle can be discovered on foot from the village centre of Cermes and is accessible by car along the Monte Leone Road.

Monteleone Castle

Castel del Gatto (in tedesco Burg Katzenstein) è un castello medievale che si trova vicino a Merano in Alto Adige.
Cenni storici
Il maniero viene citato per la prima volta nel 1258 come sede dei signori di Katzenstein. Questa famiglia divenne abbastanza potente nella zona, tanto che nel 1355 Dietpold von Katzenstein fu consigliere di Ludovico di Brandeburgo, marito di Margarete Maultasch, e nel 1361, insieme al fratello, fu membro della Dieta di Merano.

Nel 1450 la linea maschile dei Katzenstein si estinse e il castello iniziò a passare di mano in mano tra varie famiglie: prima gli Auer, poi gli Jäger, i Katzenböck e altri.

Nel 1866 divenne di proprietà di Franz Huber che lo restaurò profondamente dandogli l'aspetto attuale.

Infine il castello venne acquisito dalla famiglia Menz, che ne è l'attuale proprietaria.
Struttura
Il nucleo del castello è costituito dal mastio merlato inglobato dal palazzo residenziale rettangolare. All'interno è presente un salone decorato con mobili e dipinti del XVI-XVII secolo.

Essendo una dimora privata il castello non è visitabile.

Castel del Gatto (Merano)

Castel Freudenstein o Castel Lodrone (in tedesco Schloss Freudenstein) è un castello medievale ad Appiano sulla Strada del Vino (BZ). Sorge su un terrazzamento collinare che sovrasta la frazione di San Michele (St. Michael in Eppan).
Cenni storici
Le prime documentazioni risalgono al 1379, ma la costruzione dev'essere di molto precedente ed è forse riconducibile ai conti d'Appiano. È difficile tuttavia essere più precisi, per le continue modifiche a cui fu sottoposto nel corso dei secoli.

La zona era governata da due famiglie: gli Eysenbrand von Freudenstein e i Fuchs von Fuchsberg. Non è chiaro chi l'abbia fatto costruire, ma il nome fa propendere per i primi. Di certo, dalle documentazioni, già nel XV secolo i Fuchs, che ebbero l'intera castellania, ne risultavano proprietari.

Nel XVI secolo Jakob Fuchs fece restaurare il castello e fece costruire (1519) la cappella dedicata a Sant'Anna che si trova fuori dall'ingresso. Alla morte di Jakob la famiglia si estinse e il castello passò di mano in mano, venendo raramente abitato.

I nobili trentini de' Bellini lo acquistarono all'asta nel 1716 e da questi passò ad un parente acquisito, Antonio Fortunato di Lodron, da cui al castello Ettore Tolomei ha voluto dare il nome italiano di Castel Lodron, mai entrato nel uso comune.

Gli ultimi lavori che hanno cambiato aspetto al castello sono quelli avvenuti tra il 1860 e il 1897, quando era di proprietà dell'archeologo Heinrich von Siebold.

Nel 1918 fu acquistato da un capitano ungherese, Mikuleczky, i cui eredi lo vendettero.

Caratteristiche del castello sono le due torri, una con merlatura guelfa, l'altra ghibellina. Altro aspetto piuttosto celebre è la conservazione di una sala adibita a "sala da bere", riconoscibile dal "vomitorio", con le iscrizioni degli antichi convitati.
