Above Montagna, there is Castel d’Enna, towering into the sky.
The noble earls of Enna constructed their castle in the 12th century. First a chapel should have been constructed on a hill by order of the bishop. Next to this chapel the commissioner could construct his residence, which was composed of a defensive and residential tower and the above mentioned little chapel. Probably it was in behoof of the constructors to pruchase a new residence, as they also possessed Castelfeder. In these days it already started deteriorating. In this way the lords of the castle got around to a new residence in protected location. This construction later on served as basis for the subsequent castle complex.

Count Meinhard II conquered Castel d’Enna in a dispute and cleared out the noble Enn family. In the course of history their trace disappeared. Afterwards different families inhabited the castle. Until 1650 the Venetian Pietro Albrizzi embraced the castle and purchased it. After his death his descendants, the Zenobio Albrizzi family owned the castle and had it renewed in 1880.

Today Castel d’Enna cannot be visited as it is still inhabited. Only once a year there is a concert of a local music group of Montagna in the inner courtyard of the castle. On this evening the castle is also accessible for the public.

This is a place full of mystery on the summit of a rocky hill, above Ora. Castelfelder has a unique vegetation and a landscape which is very different compared to that in the surrounding areas.  Its Mediterranean flora, its shrubs, meadows, thickets, ponds and marshes have been protected since 1977. 

You can access it by following the "Biotope Castelfelder" footpath with displays showing the flora and fauna of the region. Castelfelder is famous not only for its rich vegetation.

Castelfelder is also a prehistoric, Roman and medieval settlement. Here you can find numerous excavations, old walls, archaeological sites and the ruins of ancient buildings. Some archaeological findings date back to the II Millennium B.C.

From a distance you can also see the ruins of the IX century Chapel of Santa Barbara and the fortifications after which the whole area is named. The view of the Adige Valley that stretches into the distance calls to mind many historic events. Many legends surround Castelfelder.

Castelfeder

VIGNA “Castel Ringberg” on the Alto Adige Wine Road is the most important property of the renowned Elena Walch wine estate and is the origin of some of the most awarded wines of Italy. In the midst of about 20 hectares of vineyards with a view of Lake Caldaro lies the romantic little Castel Ringberg castle, built in 1620 by the Habsburg dynasty. Castello di Salorno History
The Castle of Salorno was built according to the most reliable sources around the first half of the thirteenth century by the Counts of Salorno from which the castle takes its name. Later the manor passed into the hands of Count Mainardo II of Tyrol and in the fourteenth century to the House of Habsburg. The Emperor Maximilian of Hapsburg in 1514 had some strategic changes made to the structure, extending it and building fortifications on the side of the mountain. Over the following decades, however, Hadeburg progressively lost its defensive and strategic function and became so uninhabited. With abandonment, the building suffered a slow deterioration, which only recently came to a halt by a restoration commissioned by the last owner, Baron Ernesto Rubin de Cervin Albrizzi, who failed in 2013.

In the course of its centuries-old history, the castle has hosted illustrious figures among its walls, among which Melantone, one of the closest collaborators of Martin Luther, and the German painter Albrecht Dürer and his beauty has also impressed the famous brothers Grimm, who set their own history of the "Deutsche Sagen" collection right here.

Since 2003 the castle, after the careful and scrupulous restoration work in which the "Path of visions" was also built, a forest road access to the manor of about 900 meters in length, has reopened to the public in all its splendor .

The castle is one of the unmissable destinations for lovers of medieval archeology and within its walls it often hosts events and manifestations of an artistic, literary and popular character, returning to being, after more than 450 years of life, an active pole of Salorno.

The castle inn also offers visitors simple and seasonal dishes and upon reservation it is possible to spend an evening in the style of the ancient knights with the "medieval banquet" during which to savor dishes of ancient taste in an atmosphere to say the least suggestive.

White towers rise at Paschbach Castle above the wine growing area of Appiano.
Today, Paschbach Castle offers also suites and rooms with breakfast with a gorgeous panoramic view in one of the most beautiful areas of South Tyrol. Colourful flowers bloom all around the castle and a lush green shines from the garden, to the delight of all nature lovers.

In 1570, Jakob Aichner from Cortina took over the medieval tower of the castle. His son, Hans Baptist, was ennobled with the title “von Paschbach” in 1589. Finally the Lords of Mörl from the Val Pusteria valley received the castle by marriage at the end of the 17th century.

From the 19th century onwards, the Lords of Wohlgemuth and - in the course of time - several other noblemen took over the leadership of Paschbach Castle. Today, the castle belongs to Rolanda Zanghi and her family.

At Paschbach Castle, medieval craftsmanship and Renaissance home decor are combined in historical columns and parlours. The castle was rebuilt in the late Middle Ages and again around 1585 in the style of the Renaissance by Luca d’Allio. Around 1900 Hermann von Zastrow organized a renewal in the style of Romanticism. As part of this work, the medieval tower was raised and completed with a crenellation.

Paschbach Castle

Castel Freudenstein o Castel Lodrone (in tedesco Schloss Freudenstein) è un castello medievale ad Appiano sulla Strada del Vino (BZ). Sorge su un terrazzamento collinare che sovrasta la frazione di San Michele (St. Michael in Eppan).
Cenni storici
Le prime documentazioni risalgono al 1379, ma la costruzione dev'essere di molto precedente ed è forse riconducibile ai conti d'Appiano. È difficile tuttavia essere più precisi, per le continue modifiche a cui fu sottoposto nel corso dei secoli.

La zona era governata da due famiglie: gli Eysenbrand von Freudenstein e i Fuchs von Fuchsberg. Non è chiaro chi l'abbia fatto costruire, ma il nome fa propendere per i primi. Di certo, dalle documentazioni, già nel XV secolo i Fuchs, che ebbero l'intera castellania, ne risultavano proprietari.

Nel XVI secolo Jakob Fuchs fece restaurare il castello e fece costruire (1519) la cappella dedicata a Sant'Anna che si trova fuori dall'ingresso. Alla morte di Jakob la famiglia si estinse e il castello passò di mano in mano, venendo raramente abitato.

I nobili trentini de' Bellini lo acquistarono all'asta nel 1716 e da questi passò ad un parente acquisito, Antonio Fortunato di Lodron, da cui al castello Ettore Tolomei ha voluto dare il nome italiano di Castel Lodron, mai entrato nel uso comune.

Gli ultimi lavori che hanno cambiato aspetto al castello sono quelli avvenuti tra il 1860 e il 1897, quando era di proprietà dell'archeologo Heinrich von Siebold.

Nel 1918 fu acquistato da un capitano ungherese, Mikuleczky, i cui eredi lo vendettero.

Caratteristiche del castello sono le due torri, una con merlatura guelfa, l'altra ghibellina. Altro aspetto piuttosto celebre è la conservazione di una sala adibita a "sala da bere", riconoscibile dal "vomitorio", con le iscrizioni degli antichi convitati.


Castel Lodrone

The first castle built on the rock spur above Bolzano (Bozen) by the Lords of Haselberg dates back to the 12th century. Already in those days the fortress boasted a circular wall at its east and south flank, which could easily be assaulted. The great hall was located just above the porphry rocks. It is presumed that also a donjon already existed at that time. Only few documents testify the renovations in the 13th and 15th century. Between 1474 and 1541, Castel Flavon - “Haselburg” in German - was repeatedly changend and enlarged. Still today the renovations that were carried out under this rule is in great parts preserved.

A double arcade hall, a further great hall in the north of the castle as well as a new defence wall were added. Moreover the rooms of the three-winged castle were lushly decorated with frescoes. From 2001 to 2002, Castel Flavon was refurbished under the direction of the architect Dietmar Dejori. Overbuildings from the 18th century were eliminated from the ancient double arcades, cellars were laid open and the collapsed great hall in the north was rebuilt in order to restore the original three-winged form of the building.

Nowadays Castel Flavon hosts a restaurant as well as various rooms that are used for seminars, congresses and marriage celebrations, whereas the SkyBar with view on Bolzano is a place for parties. Worth noticing are the frescoes in the interior, illustrating emperors and generals as well as scenes of the antique myth of Apollo. And how to reach Castel Flavon? A street leads from the city up to the castle, and from the parking space in the wood it’s only a short walk to Castel Flavon.

Castel Flavon


is an extensive castle and set of fortifications near Bolzano in South Tyrol. Today its ruins house the fourth mountain museum established by the South Tyrolean mountaineer, Reinhold Messner. On 9 June 2006 the MMM (Messner Mountain Museum Firmian) was opened in this fortified castle dating to the Late Middle Ages.

History
The first historical mention of the castle, under the name Formicaria (later Formigar), dates back to AD 945. In 1027 Emperor Conrad II transferred it to the Bishop of Trent. In the 12th century it was given to ministeriales, who from then on were named the Firmian family. Around 1473 the Prince of Tyrol, Duke Sigismund the Rich, bought the castle, renamed it Sigmundskron Castle and had it developed to withstand firearms. Of the old castle of Formigar there are only a few remnants left today, mostly located on the highest point of the site. Due to financial difficulties Sigmund had to pledge the castle soon afterwards. As a result the site fell increasingly into disrepair.

At the end of the 18th century the castle belonged to the Count Wolkenstein, from 1807 to 1870 the counts of Sarnthein and from then until 1994 the counts of Toggenburg. In 1976, the half-ruined castle was partially restored by an innkeeper's family and opened as a restaurant. In 1996 the castle passed into the possession of the Province of Bolzano. In the spring of 2003, after much controversy, Reinhold Messner was given a licence for his long-planned mountain museum.

During construction work a Neolithic grave was discovered in March 2006, in which a woman's skeletal remains were found. The age of the grave is estimated to be 6,000-7,000 years.

A symbol of the independence movement
The fortress is an important political symbol in South Tyrol. In 1957, under the leadership of Silvius Magnago, the largest protest rally in the history of South Tyrol was held here. More than 30,000 gathered in the castle to protest against the failure of the Paris Convention to protest and demand freedom for South Tyrol ("Freedom from Trent").

Sigmundskron Castle

The keep, which dominates the entire structure, was erected in 1236 by the Lords von Korb. This family was part of the ministerial line of the Counts of Appiano. Following the property passed as a fiefdom to various families in the area. In 1834 a certain Mr. Johann von Puter bought the castle and had it enlarged with a small chapel. He also had the various elements decorated with merlons, very typical for the Roman period.

In 1877 the castle was sold to the German von Tessmann family. The son, Friedrich von Tessmann, was a well-known scholar of Tyrolean history and culture, and he is responsible for the library collection he donated to the province afterwards.

In 1918 the Dellago family bought Castel Corba, which transformed the hotel over the years into a hotel. In addition, the structure was also expanded with a farm, a restaurant and a cellar.

Castel Corba was originally a small fortress, also called "fixed house". The most recently constructed buildings are part of an expansion all in the romantic style of the time. On the facades we can see the mullioned windows with round arches, architraved with central column and capital and also the round-arched door with architrave.

Located just outside the town of Appiano, in a green valley designed by rows of vines and orchards located between the peaks of the Dolomites, here are two medieval castles, a few tens of meters from each other. Castel Corba and Castel Boymont, both belonging to the Dellago family, who used them to welcome guests in the most ancient of South Tyrolean traditions. Schloss Korb has thus become an elegant four-star hotel, the other castle an original meeting place outdoors or for picnics.

In a harmonious synthesis between ancient and modern, Schloss Korb offers various types of accommodation, suitable for every need. From the smaller and simpler attic rooms to the spacious ones located both in the castle and in the newly built part, ending with the apartments and the comfortable suites of the medieval tower. In all the rooms a refined romantic touch coexists with the traditional alpine style, with bedrooms and rooms covered in wood paneling. Next to the central body there is a wellness area with a large indoor pool, a single and family sauna and a massage room. In the park there are also another swimming pool, two clay tennis courts and a play area for children.

Castel Corba

The ruins of the Boymont castle are situated on a rocky ridge above Missiano. This romanic structure stands out because of its unusual rectangular, clear cut and straight lines. Even though the structure was fortified to a certain extent it was mainly used as a residence.  The castle was built between 1220 and 1230 by the Counts of Appiano and was then given to the Boymont and the Korb family as a fief. About two centuries later the castle was inherited by Ulrich Kässler, the secretary of the Duke Frederick IV, also known as Frederick of the empty pockets. Some years later proabably due to a fire that was started over hereditary disputes the castle burnt down and was not rebuilt. In 1977 thanks to the new owner, Fritz Dellago, the castle was rebuilt. Today, in the courtyard of the castle, a restaurant has been opened and visitors can admire the big arched windows and the remains of what used to be the chapel.

the Boymont castle 

Castel Malgolo è uno dei tanti castelli dell'Anaunia, situato nell'omonima frazione di Malgolo nel comune di Romeno in Trentino-Alto Adige. Residenza privata, ammirabile solamente nella suggestiva cornice esterna, Castel Malgolo sorge lungo la statale che collega l'abitato di Romeno all'omonima frazione di Malgolo. Incorniciato dalla lussureggiante vegetazione circostante, il castello colpisce soprattutto per la sua duplice natura di fortezza medievale da un lato ed elegante residenza romantica dall'altro.
