Description

The installation of the German garrison in Metz after annexation and the creation in 1890 of the XVI Corps in order to make Metz "the cornerstone of Germany's power", called for the creation of an official residence for the military commander of this new corps. The former palace of the commander of the XVI corps of the German army, Marshal Von Haessler, it was built from 1902 to 1904 in German neo-Renaissance style. The palace is characteristic of historicist architecture at the time. The palace and its park can be visited during the European Heritage Days.
