This unique building has been built by Jehan Ango, a patron and a shipowner from Dieppe who became rich thanks to sea voyages and who chose Varengeville to build his summer residence... Combining styles and materials from Florence and Normandy, this building constructed circa 1535 is a perfect example of Renaissance architecture: the central building and the outbuildings are gathered together around the courtyard, formerly surrounded by ditches.
Harmony is perfectly achieved, but what is striking and amazing above all is the superb dovecote ornamented with beautiful multi-coloured bricks, flint and sandstone in the middle of the courtyard. It is considered as one of the most beautiful dovecotes in France...
In this fascinating setting, many prestigious guests came: artists, scholars and scientists, merchants and King Francis I himself, who visited in 1535.

The Château de Dieppe is a castle in the French town of Dieppe in the Seine-Maritime département.
The castle was founded in 1188, and was destroyed in 1195. The site was restored in the 14th century. The castle was later in large part reconstructed in 1433 by Charles des Marets. The castle is composed of a quadrangular enclosure with round flanking towers and a lower court adjacent. The large west tower dates perhaps from the 14th century, and served as the keep. Several architectural styles are represented, and flint and sandstone are used in the buildings. A brick bastion and various other buildings have been added to the original enclosure.
The town walls were built around 1360. The walls were extended between 1435 and 1442. Although the town was largely destroyed by an Anglo-Dutch naval bombardment in 1694, the castle survived.
Until 1923, the castle housed the Ruffin barracks. It was bought by the town in 1903 and today is home to the Dieppe museum with its collection of ivories (crucifixes, rosaries, statuettes, fans, snuffboxes, etc.), maritime exhibits and the papers and belongings of Camille Saint-Saëns.
The castle offers a panoramic view over the town and the coast.
The Château de Dieppe has been officially classed since 1862 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Château de Dieppe

Built in 1590 on the remnants of an old fortified castle destroyed during the Battle of Arques, the Miromesnil castle is the testimony of four centuries of architectural history. The simple lines of the Henry IV style south façade contrast with the decorative abundance of the Louis XIII imposing north facade.
Despite the succession of numerous landlords, the castle has kept its decorative aspects from the past centuries such as wooden panels from the 17th and 18th century, wrought ironwork and crown mouldings from the 19th century. The furniture (sofas, chest of drawers, wardrobes) portrays life in the castle in the 18th century.
On the ground floor of one of the towers, a small room has been revamped to a 19th century style lounge, to remind visitors of the presence of the Maupassant family between 1849 and 1853.
