The Château des ducs de Lorraine (Castle of Dukes of Lorraine or Sierck Castle) may have been a Gallo-Roman fort, but the first historical document of the castle date from 1067. However there is probably nothing left of this first castle. The current castle was built by the archbishop of Trier in the 15th century. French army conquered it in the 17th century and since 1661 it became part of the reign of France. The castle lost its defensive purpose and it was demolished in 1673. Later fortifications was re-enhanced and left to decay several times. In 1866 The Château was acquired by the city of Sierck les Bains.

The imposing Château de Malbrouck was built between 1419 and 1434. It is a particularly important testimony since it is the only Castle of the 15th century fully preserved in Lorraine. Instead of surprise, discovery and imagination, he has everything to fascinate. Visit course reveals playfully the six centuries of history of the Castle.
Brief summary of history
Built in the early 15th century, the hinge of the middle ages and the Renaissance, between the Germanic world and the latin world, the Château de Malbrouck keeps track of these transitions in its architecture, blending elements of the Castle fort and those of the residential Castle.
Over the centuries, several European conflicts pass by the Lorraine and the Château de Malbrouck. The last war of Louis XIV, the war of Succession of Spain, did not spare the fortified building. By choosing the chateau as headquarters, the English Duke of Marlborough (the song «Malbrouck goes to war») provides site a great reputation over time. Completely restored, the Château de Malbrouck is a place of culture.
Architecture
The Château de Malbrouck has many elements of defence. To the North, the entrance to the castle is protected by a Barbican, a mobile bridge, a moat and a Châtelet. The Tower of the ladies is equipped with machicolations giving both outside and inside the Castle.
The thickness of the walls is an effective defence, the Lantern Tower and its northeast courtine have walls of 4.80 metres thick. Shooting openings are present in all four rounds and the Tower of the Lantern has friendly gun fire rooms. The Castle stairs run upside down, this allows in fact right-handed Defender to be better placed to hit.
Animation
The Château de Malbrouck offers a scenography retracing five centuries of history at the same time as major exhibitions. Festivals and performances are regularly organized or programmed within its murailles4. In addition the Château de Malbrouck offers every year exhibitions.

At the heart of the country of the three frontiers, at the threshold of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg,and next to the mediaeval city of Rodemack, whose defense it guaranteed, the fortress of Preisch was destroyed in about 1680. 
Traces of its feudal moat and ditches can be seen in the park which surrounds the present Château.
This Château whose construction was undertaken by Conrad de Soetern and Marguerite de Merode at the beginning of the 17th Century, is built on two levels.With its 17th and 18th Century dependencies, the whole site is designed as two u-shapes with two courtyards, that of the Château and that of the farm. 
The domain of Preisch presently stretches over 170 hectares enclosed by 7 km wall which shelters an English garden, Hampshire sheep, a kitchen garden, pastures, and centuries old woods as well as a 3 x 9 hole golf course.
Since 1855, it is owned by the de Gargan family.
Charles-Joseph de Gargan (1831-1920) constituted the collection of objects which furnished the Château. It is during his journeys in Italy, Austria, Portugal, Flanders, and the Palatinate that he made his acquisitions. The interior of the Château, devastated and pillaged by the German occupation during the second world war, was restored by Madeleine de Gargan (1928-2000), his grand-daughter, Mayoress of Basse-Rentgen and Member of the Regional Council for 18 years.
Today her daughter, Dominique Charpentier, has reunited artworks, furniture and objects from her paternal and maternal families, the Charpentier family and the de Gargan family. The Château de Preisch collection taken as a whole reveals the historical approach of Charles-Joseph de Gargan which is carried on by his descendants, all in a property transmitted from generation to generation with the same care taken to both preserve the family heritage and to enrich it.

Château de Preisch

The Château de La Grange is a historic château in Manom, Moselle, France. It was built in the 17th century. It belonged to Jean de Bertier de Sauvigny after World War I. It has been listed as an official historical monument since February 28, 1984.
For one year Gala worked in correspondence with the Direction of the Castle, Château de la Grange, in the town of Savigny le Temple. Along with the Swedish artist Annica Stiernlöf they created the cultural project “La fête au Chateau” – “Feast at the Castle” - for all visitors and particularly for young students from different schools in the region.
The castle was bought in the year 1800 by Jean-Baptist Bernadotte and his wife Desirée Clary. They left La Grange in 1818 to become King and Queen of Sweden.
The Castle now belongs the town of Savigny le Temple. La Grange and its beautiful French and English gardens, including a vegetable garden, are visited yearly by thousands of visitors from all over France. It has an exhibition hall and there are also Artist’s Residencies.
Gala and the Swedish artist Annica Stienlöf worked together with the artistic design of the exhibition. They were “Artists in residence” at the castle twice while working on this project.
A 'sub-title' was given to the exhibition: “Upstairs and Downstairs” – in reference to the masters and the servants who used to live at the castle.
GALA created the part where the “masters” were represented. They were the former owners from two different periods in the history of the castle. Two children, who both had been growing up at La Grange were the centre of the exhibition. They were Oscar Bernadotte, who later became King Oscar I of Sweden, and Paul Elby who stayed with his parents at the castle in the 1920’s and 30’s. Paul Elby who was born in 1921 was still alive during the realization of the exhibition. He contributed largely with notes and photographs from his own family’s collection.
Annica Stiernlöf created the “servants” part of the exhibition. Her installation was made in very light white hand-made paper. It was hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the exhibition room. It was moving slightly in the air and represented parts of the servant’s costumes and items they used during their daily duties. There were thin white aprons and also buckets and logs. It looked like they continued to do their daily chores in silence. They needed to be as invisible as possible, surrounded by and observed by the masters whose portraits hung on the walls around them. Those servants floated in the air like ghosts of the past that nobody made or kept a portrait of. 
The exhibition was inaugurated in September 2013 and had many visitors during the autumn until January 2014. Also students from nearby schools were visiting to get inspired and work with the themes of the exhibition and the history of the castle.

Château de La Grange

Le domaine de la Grange des Prés est un monument historique de Pézenas dans l'Hérault, en France. Il a été inventorié en 2003 et inscrit au titre des monuments historique dans sa totalité en 2015. Le parc a été classé en 1942 au titre des sites naturels.
Historique
La maison des champs des gouverneurs du Languedoc
Henri Ier de Montmorency, amiral, connétable de France et gouverneur du Languedoc, vient à Pézenas en 1563. Il fait l'acquisition en 1587 de terres, dites des Prés, au nord de Pézenas, avec une chapelle et une métairie appartenant depuis 1262 au chapitre cathédral de Lodève. Il y fait construire immédiatement une résidence et aménager le jardin. La construction est confiée à Jean Thomas, architecte lorrain devenu ensuite piscénois. Après huit ans, les travaux du château et du jardin sont achevés en 1595.
L'édifice primitif, désigné depuis sous le nom de "château vieux", présente quatre corps de bâtiment développés autour d'une cour. L'ancienne chapelle romane a été englobée dans la nouvelle bâtisse après avoir été surélevée d'un étage par la construction d'une salle haute. Le rez-de-chaussée abrite les communs, la salle basse et la cuisine. Le four est installé dans une tour.
Dès 1601, le maître maçon Claude Bastide, chargé des premiers travaux d'agrandissement, élève deux galeries à arcades et entoure le domaine d'un mur d'enceinte couronné de merlons. De 1604 à 1607, divers bâtiments d'habitation ou à usage agricole sont construits. Le grand escalier est mis en place en 1610 pour desservir la salle haute et une terrasse.
Le jardin à l'italienne présente des terrasses avec vue sur la plaine de l'Hérault, des bosquets regroupant les arbres par essences (pins, cyprès, ormeaux), des sculptures végétales et des fontaines en abondance dont un mécanisme dit rossignol animé, chantant sous la pression de l'eau. L'une des allées délimitées par des palissades végétales est bordée de 79 orangers. Le jardin possède également un jeu de mail, une orangerie, un potager, trois parterres dont un semé de fleurs et un verger regroupant 113 arbres fruitiers. Un vivier qui existe toujours alimenté par les crues de l'Hérault au moyen d'un canal, avaient été creusé dès 1601.
En 1614, Henri II de Montmorency hérite le domaine de son père. En décembre 1614, les États généraux du Languedoc ont lieu dans la Grange. En juillet 1622, le roi Louis XIII s'arrête à la Grange en se rendant à Montpellier. En juillet 1629, le cardinal de Richelieu arrive à la Grange avec une suite importante. En 1632, le gouverneur se rebelle contre le Roi, influencé par le duc d'Orléans. Il quitte le domaine en juillet et est décapité à Toulouse en décembre.
Sa sœur Charlotte hérite alors du domaine en indemnisant les autres sœurs avec l'aide de son mari Henri II de Bourbon-Condé.
La demeure princière
Le prince de Condé poursuit les travaux et augmente l'ensemble des deux tiers. À la mort de son mari en 1646, Charlotte a l'usufruit du domaine. Armand de Bourbon, prince de Conti, hérite de sa mère en 1650.
Le domaine est abandonné depuis presque vingt ans, lorsque le 10 août 1653, le prince de Conti installe à Pézenas sa dernière maîtresse Mme de Calvimont, épouse du conseiller au Parlement de Bordeaux. Le prince de vingt-quatre ans rejoint lui-même Pézenas et le domaine en septembre 1653 accompagné de son intendant l'abbé de Cosnac, de son secrétaire le poète Sarazin, de son ami Guilleragues et d'une suite d'au moins deux cents personnes; le prince et sa cour s’installent au château de la Grange-des-Prés et ouvrent les États généraux du Languedoc à Montpellier.
Sur proposition de sa maîtresse l'ayant rejoint au château, le prince de Conti accueille la troupe de Molière en septembre 1653 et lui accorde alors son patronage. Il reçoit à nouveau Molière en 1655.
Sa femme Anne-Marie Martinozzi, nièce de Mazarin épousée en 1654 à Paris, ne le revoit que le 30 novembre 1656, lorsqu'elle le rejoint dans son château. Il refuse de revoir Molière lors de son nouveau passage à Pézenas en 1657 sur insistance de sa femme et de Nicolas Pavillon, l'évêque janséniste d'Alet.
Il meurt au château en 1666.
Les transformations
Les héritiers de la maison Conti vont vendre progressivement diverses parties du domaine jusqu'à la fin du xviiie siècle.
Une manufacture de draps est installée en 1697. Ceci marque le déclin de la demeure princière.
En 1738, la création par la Province d'une caserne dont il subsiste le monumental portail d'entrée est une ultime étape dans la disparition du château vieux, appelé par les contemporains Versailles du Languedoc.
En 1741, le château vieux est acheté par les oratoriens et un hôpital militaire succède aux casernes en 1795.
Vendu comme bien national, le domaine est racheté en 1812 par Maurice Dessalles, propriétaire à Montagnac. Le château vieux disparaît entièrement et les parties de l'édifice correspondant aux agrandissements du xviie siècle sont transformés en dépendances agricoles. Eugène Dessales transforme la grange en domaine viticole qui produira jusqu'à 14 000 hectolitres de vin. Un nouveau château pinardier est construit vers 1850, en style néo-Louis XIII, et le jardin est reconstitué dans le goût de la seconde moitié du xixe siècle par les frères Bühler. Une chapelle privée est ajoutée en bout des dépendances près de l'emplacement du château vieux. La chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Neiges est de style néo-gothique. Le cardinal de Cabrières vient plusieurs fois y tenir office.
En 1893, la Comédie-Française vient jouer pour la première fois. En 1897, un buste de Molière d'après Houdon est installé au bout du bassin par Mathilde Bellaud-Dessalles au cours de festivités commémoratives en souvenir de son séjour à La Grange des Prés 1653 - 1656 où sont reçus la Comédie-Française, Camille Saint-Saëns ou le poète occitan Achille Maffre de Baugé qui fit un discours sur Molière et le régionalisme.
Descendant de la famille Dessalles, l'ornithologue François Hüe occupe le domaine et ouvre ses portes aux musiciens, artistes ou chercheurs. Une fête célébrant le tri-centenaire du départ de Molière a lieu en juin 1957 avec un discours sur Molière et la Grange des Prés de Wladimir d'Ormesson représentant l'Académie française et une représentation de la pièce le Bourgeois gentilhomme devant le château par Louis Seigner et la Comédie-Française. François Hue reçoit Olivier Messiaen en 1960 et 1961 dans le parc pour enregistrer des chants d'oiseaux.
Description
Le domaine
Le domaine d'environ 10 ha est entouré par un mur d'enceinte de pierres volcaniques (qui a perdu ses merlons à la Révolution). Depuis la route du centre de Pézenas, une grille de fer forgé donne accès au jardin et au château par le sud-ouest.
En entrant par cette grille, à gauche deux tours rondes du domaine du xviie siècle ont conservé les merlons. Entre, le grand portail de la caserne du xixe siècle donne accès au commun.
Au nord-ouest, les communs de la fin du xvie siècle, sur deux étages crépis et toit en tuile de terre, sont autour d'une cour carré d'environ 40 mètres sur 40.
Le château
Le château du début de la seconde moitié du xixe siècle est de style néo-Louis XIII. Séparé des communs, il mesure environ 25 mètres sur 12 .
La façade principale est orientée vers le sud-est, faisant face au bassin du jardin en contre-bas qui fait office de miroir. Elle est flanquée de tours octogonales en pierre, quelques marches permettent d'accéder à la terrasse devant la porte située au centre.
Les murs sont sur 2 niveaux en briques rouges, percée régulièrement sur chaque étage de 5 ouvertures sur l'avant et l'arrière et de 3 sur les côtés. Les ouvertures sont entourées de pierres jaunes de Nézignan.
Les toits sont en ardoise et sont percés de mansardes au dessus des fenêtres de la façade et de l'arrière.
Les jardins
Les jardins, recréés fin du xixe siècle, s'étendent autour du château. Le chemin principal traverse le parc devant le château et le bassin. De nombreux pins d'origine sont toujours vivants. Un bassin rocaille est situé dans l'angle nord-est du parc, devant un ancien château d'eau.

Château de la Grange des Prés

The Château Saint-Sixte is a 12th-century castle in the commune of Freistroff in the Moselle département of France.
The Château Saint-Sixte stands on a small plain between Freistroff and Rémelfang. It was built in the 12th century by the seigneur Wirich de Valcourt. During the Renaissance, it was transformed into a residence and was altered again in the 18th century. It was saved from ruin by the Gehl family in 1986. Separated from the village on the left bank of the Nied, it has a strange oval plan, surrounding by ancient moats. The six originally separate buildings are roofed with two slopes of tiles and arranged around an entirely enclosed courtyard. In each corner, a polygonal staircase tower gives access to the upper storeys.
The château is open to visitors every afternoon from April to October, with guided tours at weekends. Organised groups may visit throughout the year.
The castle is privately owned. In 1986, the Gehl family bought the castle and the estate around it. Their sons Dominique, Philippe and Luc undertook the thorough restoration of the castle. In 2007, Philippe Gehl bought the castle from his two brothers, and continues the work with the assistance of a restoration association. It has been listed since 1991 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Château Saint-Sixte

The château has grounds totalling 4.3 ha. It featured fountains, lakes, greenhouses and a vertical garden. Rare trees were planted here.
The interior of the château was noted for its woodwork and marble fireplaces.
The château was until 1978 the home of Ségolène de Wendel, the last representative of a family that had reigned over Hayange for 274 years.
THE WENDEL FAMILY
The Wendels are a family of ironmasters whose history is closely linked not only to Lorraine, but also to France’s industrial heritage, and the founder of an international steel group.
Originally from Bruges, Jean-Martin de Wendel (1665–1737) moved to Hayange in 1704. He was followed by eight generations of ironmasters, who were often involved in local and national politics. François (1778–1825) in particular was the local member of parliament and chairman of Moselle Council. His son Charles (1809–1870) was the member of parliament for Moselle under Napoleon III. His son Henri (1844–1906) was a reluctant member of parliament at the Reichstag during the German occupation. Henri’s son François (1874–1949) is the dynasty’s figurehead: ironmaster, senator, councillor, chairman of the ironmaster committee and regent of the Bank of France. He is the father of the Countess of Mitry (1907–1976), whose name has been given to a tennis trophy still played for during Hayange Tennis Club’s annual tournament.
The family lived in Château de Hayange, now partially demolished, not far from the imposing central office. One of Henri’s nephews, Guy de Wendel (1878–1955), senator and chairman of Moselle Council, commissioned a château in 1906, which would be lived in by his niece, Ségolène de Wendel (1908–1981), who played an important role in the Résistance and was an essential source of support for the many locals forced to flee.
The château is now a hotel, restaurant and business centre. "Dame du Fer" refers to another key figure of the Wendel dynasty: Marguerite d’Hausen (1718–1802), wife of Charles de Wendel (1708–1784), Jean-Martin's son, who ran family affairs during the Revolution, was stripped of her wealth during the Reign of Terror and died in poverty in Metz. She is remembered as "Madame d’Hayange", the Iron Lady. In 2004, an exhibition celebrating three centuries of Wendel family history was held first at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris followed by Salle Molitor in Hayange and was attended by several relatives, some of whom have stayed true to their Lorraine roots and still live in our region.
