The Château Saint-Sixte is a 12th-century castle in the commune of Freistroff in the Moselle département of France.
The Château Saint-Sixte stands on a small plain between Freistroff and Rémelfang. It was built in the 12th century by the seigneur Wirich de Valcourt. During the Renaissance, it was transformed into a residence and was altered again in the 18th century. It was saved from ruin by the Gehl family in 1986. Separated from the village on the left bank of the Nied, it has a strange oval plan, surrounding by ancient moats. The six originally separate buildings are roofed with two slopes of tiles and arranged around an entirely enclosed courtyard. In each corner, a polygonal staircase tower gives access to the upper storeys.
The château is open to visitors every afternoon from April to October, with guided tours at weekends. Organised groups may visit throughout the year.
The castle is privately owned. In 1986, the Gehl family bought the castle and the estate around it. Their sons Dominique, Philippe and Luc undertook the thorough restoration of the castle. In 2007, Philippe Gehl bought the castle from his two brothers, and continues the work with the assistance of a restoration association. It has been listed since 1991 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

The imposing Château de Malbrouck was built between 1419 and 1434. It is a particularly important testimony since it is the only Castle of the 15th century fully preserved in Lorraine. Instead of surprise, discovery and imagination, he has everything to fascinate. Visit course reveals playfully the six centuries of history of the Castle.

Built in the early 15th century, the hinge of the middle ages and the Renaissance, between the Germanic world and the latin world, the Château de Malbrouck keeps track of these transitions in its architecture, blending elements of the Castle fort and those of the residential Castle.
Over the centuries, several European conflicts pass by the Lorraine and the Château de Malbrouck. The last war of Louis XIV, the war of Succession of Spain, did not spare the fortified building. By choosing the chateau as headquarters, the English Duke of Marlborough (the song «Malbrouck goes to war») provides site a great reputation over time. Completely restored, the Château de Malbrouck is a place of culture.
Architecture
The Château de Malbrouck has many elements of defence. To the North, the entrance to the castle is protected by a Barbican, a mobile bridge, a moat and a Châtelet. The Tower of the ladies is equipped with machicolations giving both outside and inside the Castle.
The thickness of the walls is an effective defence, the Lantern Tower and its northeast courtine have walls of 4.80 metres thick. Shooting openings are present in all four rounds and the Tower of the Lantern has friendly gun fire rooms. The Castle stairs run upside down, this allows in fact right-handed Defender to be better placed to hit.
Animation
The Château de Malbrouck offers a scenography retracing five centuries of history at the same time as major exhibitions. Festivals and performances are regularly organized or programmed within its murailles4. In addition the Château de Malbrouck offers every year exhibitions.

The Château des ducs de Lorraine (Castle of Dukes of Lorraine or Sierck Castle) may have been a Gallo-Roman fort, but the first historical document of the castle date from 1067. However there is probably nothing left of this first castle. The current castle was built by the archbishop of Trier in the 15th century. French army conquered it in the 17th century and since 1661 it became part of the reign of France. The castle lost its defensive purpose and it was demolished in 1673. Later fortifications was re-enhanced and left to decay several times. In 1866 The Château was acquired by the city of Sierck les Bains.
