The Château de Jumilhac is a modified castle in the commune of Jumilhac-le-Grand in the Dordogne département of France.
Its construction dates from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. The edifice is composed of the castle itself, constructed in the 15th century, and two wings added during the reign of Louis XIV. A covered porch and two arcaded walls link the ends of the wings and thus form an almost rectangular court of honour. At the rear façade is a terrassed lawn and an orangery. A parkland completes the site.
The central part was classified as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture in 1922, the right wing in 1923 and the left wing in 1924. The castle and gardens are privately owned but are open to the public.

History
In the Middle Ages the castle of Mavaleix was a fortress, built to protect the forges that were along the lenght of the small river 'La Valouze', against invasion from the occupying neighbours. The forges were vital as they produced weapons, instruments, keys and locks necessary for the nobility. The castle was, at the same time, the residence of certain "Master Ironsmith" who often acquired a noble title.
One of these illustrious residents was Nicolas-Emile Grenouillet of Mavaleix. This Master of the Forge, well liked within his entourage, was the mayor of the community of Chalais for several years. His imposing tomb, dating of the end of the 19th century, can be found hidden in the woods of the castle. This monument can be still be visited today, although his remains have been transferred to the cemetery of Chalais where one can admire a copy of his tomb.

Château de Mavaleix

Le château de Frugie est un château français implanté sur la commune de Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie dans le département de la Dordogne, en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
Il fait l'objet d'une protection au titre des monuments historiques.
Présentation
Le château de Frugie se situe au nord-est de la Dordogne, en Périgord vert, à 100 mètres au sud-ouest de l'église du bourg de Saint-Pierre-de-Frugie. C'est une propriété privée.
À l'origine, il se présentait sous la forme d'un quadrilatère dont les côtés nord-ouest et sud-est ont disparu. Au début du xxie siècle, deux lignes de bâtiments subsistent : au sud-ouest, le logis encadré de deux tours massives rectangulaires, le tout couronné de mâchicoulis vers l'extérieur ; au nord-est des ruines recouvertes de lierre et précédées d'une douve sèche avec, côté intérieur, les restes d'une chapelle.
Il est inscrit au titre des monuments historiques depuis le 21 mars 1968 pour ses façades et sa toiture.
Histoire
Le château actuel, bâti aux xve et xvie siècles, succède à un repaire fortifié médiéval ravagé lors des conflits avec les Anglais.
L'entrée du logis sud est ornée d'un portail Louis XIII que précédait auparavant un pont-levis supprimé lors du comblement des douves. Le portail de la chapelle remonte au xviie siècle.
Le 18 avril 1672, Hélie d'Arlot de Frugie, chevalier, seigneur de Frugie, de Cumond et autres lieux y décède.

Our Domain d’Essendiéras is situated on one of the highest hills of the Dordogne with a magnificent view over the valley of the Isle, bordered by the river de Loue and the Haut-Loue.
After taking over the dilapidated buildings in 1999, our history starts with the renovation of this charming French cultural heritage.
The total country estate has a surface area of 350 ha and consists of 7 farms with barns and ten labourers’ cottages. The centre is dominated by XVIth and XIXth century castles with annexes such as stables, barns, administrator’s residences, a large park and an orangerie.
From time immemorial it has always been an agrarian domain where highly prominent French families, often with a cultural or political background, resided.
The business foundation of the domain has also changed through the centuries. For example, tobacco and wine were cultivated in the XIXth century; the old tobacco lofts in the annexes are still intact, but due to a shortage of staff, these activities were replaced after WWI by a farm with livestock and arable farming. In the ‘60s, the previous owner, Sylvain Floirat, converted it into one of the largest apple orchards in Europe.
As the new owners, we also believe it is important to preserve this cultural heritage in its authentic state. We are permanently working on restoring all buildings to their original condition while trying to give them a new function.
The farms have been restored and prepared as holiday residences. We have employed the ‘Gîtes de France quatre etoiles’ standard, which means that there are at least two bathrooms and adequate comfort and living space.
Naturally, you will also find a magnificent heated swimming pool. Horse lovers can find what they are looking for on our domain. Take your horse along on holiday; we have stables, sufficient pasture and more than 100 ha of woods to enjoy for hours.
The outside walls of the XIXth-century castle have been completely restored. Also the XVIth-century castle has been completely renovated. It now accommodates different dining and seminar rooms as well as the bridal suites on the top floor.

Château d'Essendiéras

The Château de Montbrun is a castle in the commune of Dournazac in the Haute-Vienne département of France. The castle was built in the 12th and 15th centuries, and was restored in the late 19th.
The castle stands within a deep valley. Built in the 12th century, its function was to defend the borders of the Duchy of Aquitaine. Though rebuilt in the 15th century, it still has the moat, high walls and a square keep topped with machicolations.
Montbrun is a fine example of a 15th-century castle. In plan rectangular, it is flanked in the corners with round towers and protected by water. Its narrow romanesque keep, 40 metres (131 ft) square, close up against one of the towers, gives it a strange appearance.
History
The castle (then called Trados) was built in 1179 by Aymeric Bruni (also called Brun) on his return from the Second Crusade. The Brun family, (Montbrun after 1366), remained owners until 1516. At the start of the Hundred Years' War, the castle was occupied by the English. It was retaken by the French in 1353. At the end of the century it was taken again by the English and partially destroyed. Between 1433 and 1438, square towers were replaced with round towers and the castle took on its present form.
In 1562, Montbrun was attacked by Protestants during the Wars of Religion and although it was not captured a fire raged through the castle.
During the French Revolution, at the instigation of people's representatives Borie and Brival, the castle was pillaged and destroyed and the archives were burned. The property was divided up and sold as national property. Restored in 1871, it suffered a serious fire in 1917. A second restoration was carried out between 1964 and 1966. In 2016, a member of the Thom family presented the French government with signed document from the Estates General dating from 1788 and the castle was returned to the only known descendent of Aymeric Bruni. Since May 2017, the French Ministry of Culture has supported the claim of ownership made by Benjamin Thom of Melbourne as the only direct descendant of Bruce Thom and Aymeric Bruni.
It has been a protected monument historique listed by the French Ministry of Culture since 1946 and will remain the property of the Thom family.

Château de Montbrun

Château de Bonneval
The château sits on a slightly elevated position in the centre of the village, providing commanding views in all directions. Although it has been a stately home since the late 18th century, previously, as a military establishment, it formed part of a strategically important defensive line of fortresses, protecting access to Aquitaine. And what are now pleasant country vistas would have been, at that time, lines of defensive observation and even fire.
The ground immediately surrounding the château is primarily laid to lawn, edged with lavender and fir trees as well as stands of oak, chestnut and lime trees. These gardens hide some intriguing old buildings, including a small family chapel. Beyond these are the farm fields, home to the estate’s herd of the famously red, Limousin cattle.

It is believed that the first château was built by a knight ancestor of the Bonneval family in 930 AD, on a site which had been a Gallo-Roman villa. This link with the earlier Roman occupation of Gaul is evinced by the famous abbreviation S.P.Q.R (Senatus, Populous, Que Romanus) being included in not only, the engraving of the Bonneval family crest above the Main Entrance of the château, dating from the 16th century; but also, on the tomb of Bernard de Bonneval, in Limoges Cathedral; who was bishop of Limoges from 1390 until his death in 1403.
This earlier 10th century holdfast was extensively rebuilt in 1350 as an impeccable example of the quadrilateral castle form, combining curtail walls with four massive round towers, each oriented to the four cardinal points of the compass; encircled by moats.
The château has changed a lot over time, and as a result, provides examples of different architectures and styles from a wide range of historic periods. Each generation of Bonneval has made changes and improvements, a process which continues to this day. The present organisation of the château is primarily due to the major rebuild and renovation projects undertaken by the Bonneval residents of the day, during the 12th, 14th and 18th centuries.

Château de Brie is a castle located in Champagnac-la-Rivière, France. Brie, who were soldiers, have arrived in the Dordogne in 1250 under the name Boschaud, later becoming "Boschaud Brie", the name probably from the Roman colonization of the Limousin, where land was divided among the soldiers. Already inhabited in 1275, 22 January 1484, Viscount de Rochechouart gives permission to his faithful Jean (Boschaud) Brie, rider, lord of the hostel, repair or noble Brie accommodation, located in the Vicomte de Rochechouart, parish Champagnac-the-river, to rebuild in the same place a strong house with towers, turrets (tournelles), slots (craneux), battlements (machecoulx), drawbridge, moats.
