Visiting Taillis is like discovering a whole new world of French castles. The history of our estate starts in the 14th century and every day we keep up the hard work to keep it safe.
In 1998, the Navarro family was the one who purchased the castle and since then it has entered a new age. Preserving the castle and making it regain its historical splendor is our main goal. For over 20 years we have been fighting against its ruination and making efforts in order to restore this Norman masterpiece.
Today, you can contribute to its restoration by visiting this amazing place. Nicolas Navarro, one of the youngest owners of the Chateau, will warmly welcome you and help you dive into the Castle history and that of its owners.
You will be offered several visits: a visit to the interior of the Castle, to the park and gardens or to the Museum Août 1944.

Le Château d'Yville - a classified 18th Century Historical Monument in the Seine valley, in Normandy (France)
In the latter part of the 17th Century it became fashionable throughout France to own châteaux and other buildings conforming to the aesthetic rules of the finest buildings constructed by Louis XIV's architects, based on new ideas of geometry and harmonic proportions.
In parallel, a new type of country residence or 'maison de campagne' made its appearance. Without moats, somewhere between the Italian 'villa' and the traditional 'château', these buildings found favour among the powerful - the nobility and the political and financial gentry.
The château at Yville-sur-Seine is a fine example of this new genre. It was built in the early 18th century on the site of a previous building. It has always been attributed to the famous Royal architect, Jules Hardouin-Mansart, who died in 1708. This attribution may be debatable, but very strong influences of his style can be identified.
The domain of the Château d'Yville, covering more than 835,000 sq.m., has remained intact until the present day. Situated on a gentle North-facing slope next to the village of Yville-sur-Seine, between a meander of the Seine with its wet meadows, and the forested edge of the chalk and clay plateau to the South, the château and grounds were disposed in such as way as to take full visual advantage of the landscape.
Today, the château and domain are privately-owned and have been restored. Initially listed in 1931, the park and château were officially classified as a "Monument Historique classé" by the French authorities in 2003.
Many of the original descriptive documents and plans of the château are missing; historical and scientific investigations are underway to determine some of the original designs for the gardens and grounds, and further restoration is planned.

Château d'Yville

The first castle in Quevillon was built by Étienne Bourdet in the 13th century and it was demolished in 1570. The current castle dates from the 1620s and it was built by Charles II Maignart de Bernières. Voltaire stayed in the castle in 1723. Today Château de la Rivière-Bourdet is in private use.

Château de la Rivière-Bourdet

Château de Tilly is located in Boissey-Le-Châtel, a village of Pays du Roumois, which is part of Bourgtheroulde district, in the Eure County.
Its construction began in 1530 and lasted 5 years. Claude Le Roux was the first Landlord, heir to Guillaume II Le Roux, Lord of Bourgtheroulde. He built the castle to assert his social status as MP and member of the Exchequer. When his brother passed away, he also inherited the Castle of Bourgtheroulde, which is today a prestigious hotel in Rouen.
The castle was erected on 1000 acres of land. Over the years the property will gradually be dismantled and will become a public school. Since, major structural works have been achieved to refurbish the property in 1990, and finally in 2012 the castle recovered its past beauty.
Today the grounds are comprised of three buildings:
The Castle: the façade combines bricks and rocks, characteristic of the Renaissance period in Normandy. Remaining signs indicate that a chapel was adjoined to the Castle and destroyed during the French Revolution. The surrounding walls are indicative of the building’s medieval history. 
The “Le Roux de Tilly” maxim:
“Expugna impugnates me domine”, Lord hold off my enemies
It suggests the difficulties and attacks faced by the family and the castle over the centuries. You will admire the engravings on the window frames, tracing back the castle’s history.
Indoors, take the time to appreciate the Stairway of Honour, also described as “Rihour stairs”, named after its architect. You will be fascinated by its original and historic conception and its mesmerizing effect..
