Château du Fayel is a building in the town of that name, in the Oise. It is the subject of a registration as a historic monument since the January 13, 1947 (castle and flag) and 5 August 1980 (Common).Construction of the castle dates back to 1650-1655. It is designed by Jacques Sparrow for Philippe de La Mothe-Houdancourt, Marshal of France and Viceroy of Catalonia. Queen Christina has stayed, joined on site by Louis XIV, Anne of Austria and Mazarin. The architect Jacques Sparrow has also built the Drapers Hall, in the center of Paris 11 rue des Spark, whose facade is now in the Musée Carnavalet and the building was replaced by the Cremerie de Paris. He is the older brother of Libéral Bruant, architect of the Invalides. He always passed by marriage (La Mothe-Houdancourt, Rouault-Gamaches, Héricy of Cossé-Brissac) and was never sold.This is a house of stone corner bricks with a central body with two wings. The interior was remodeled in the eighteenth century. He was surrounded by a French park, possibly Le Nôtre, which can still be seen the plan.

The Château de Compiègne is a French chateau, a royal residence built for Louis XV and restored by Napoleon. Compiègne was one of three seats of royal government, the others being Versailles and Fontainebleau. It is located in Compiègne in the Oise department and is open to the public.
Even before the chateau was constructed, Compiègne was the preferred summer residence for French monarchs, primarily for hunting given its proximity to Compiègne Forest. The first royal residence was built in 1374 for Charles V, and a long procession of successors both visited it and modified it. Louis XIV resided in Compiègne some 75 times. Louis XV was perhaps even more favorably impressed; the Comte de Chevergny described his infatuation: "Hunting was his main passion... and Compiègne, with its immense forest, with its endless avenues amongst the trees, with its stretches down which you could ride all day and never come to the end, was the ideal place to indulge that passion."
In 1750, prominent architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel proposed a thorough renovation of the chateau. Work began in 1751 and was finished in 1788 by Gabriel's student Le Dreux de La Châtre. The ancient town ramparts dictated the château's triangular plan; the resultant building covers about 5 acres (20,000 m2). It is Neoclassical in style, with simplicity and clarity governing both its external and interior features.
During the French Revolution, the château passed into the jurisdiction of the Minister for the Interior. In 1795 all furniture was sold and its works of art were sent to the Muséum Central; it was essentially gutted. Napoleon visited in 1799 and again in 1803. In 1804 the château became an imperial domain and in 1807 he ordered it be made habitable again. Architects Berthault, Percier and Fontaine, decorators Dubois and Redouté, and cabinetmakers Jacob-Desmalter and Marcion restored the château. Its layout was altered, a ballroom added, and the garden was replanted and linked directly to the forest.
The result is an example of First French Empire style (1808-1810), though some traces of the earlier décor survive. The writer Auguste Luchet remarked that "Compiègne speaks of Napoleon as Versailles does of Louis XIV". From 1856 on, Napoleon III and Eugénie made it their autumn residence, and redecorated some rooms in the Second Empire style.
Today's visitors can find three distinct museums within the chateau: the apartments themselves; the Museum of the Second Empire; and the National Car Museum (Le Musée de la Voiture), founded in 1927, with a collection of carriages, bicycles, and automobiles.

Château de Compiègne

Le château de Bellinglise est un château français situé sur le territoire la commune d’Élincourt-Sainte-Marguerite, dans le département de l’Oise et la région Hauts-de-France.
Description
Le château de Bellinglise est situé au nord de la commune, dans un parc arboré d'environ 160 hectares. L'édifice d'origine, un manoir, fut maintes fois remanié. Il remonte au XIIe siècle. Il fut agrandi une première fois au XIVe siècle. Les seigneurs de Bellinglise utilisent une des tourelles de la façade principale comme prison, car ils ont obtenu le droit de rendre haute, moyenne et basse justice, ce qui leur accorde la plénitude de juridiction tant au civil qu’au pénal. Au début de la Renaissance, la famille Hamel de Bellinglise décide de remanier ce petit château médiéval, désormais trop modeste au regard de son ascension sociale. Le choix des matériaux se porte sur des briques rouges et noires, avec un chaînage de pierres blanches qui anime la façade. L’ancienne entrée du château est encadrée de deux tourelles carrées. Des remaniements et aménagements moins importants ont été effectués au XVIIe siècle. Le château est à nouveau modifié au XIXe siècle.
Toponymie
Bellinglise est un lieu-dit de la commune d’Élincourt-Sainte-Marguerite. Il s'agit d'un type toponymique médiéval composé de deux éléments Bellin-glise.
Bellin- représente vraisemblablement un nom de personne germanique. En l'absence de formes anciennes suffisamment caractérisées, il est cependant impossible de savoir si cet anthroponyme repose sur une racine Bil-/ Bel- ou Ber-. Les noms de lieux Bellenglise (Aisne, Belaineglise en 1190) et Belle-Église (Oise, Beriecclesia en 1094, Berenglissa en 1099) de structure identique, s'expliquent respectivement par les noms de personnes germaniques Bil(l)ing et Berin selon Albert Dauzat et Charles Rostaing. Bellicourt (Aine, Belleincourt en 1228) contiendrait le nom de personne Beling. Le nom de personne est celui du propriétaire du terrain où il a fondé un édifice religieux.
Histoire
En 1250, le fief de Marfontaine appartient à Marie du Condun, dame d’Élincourt ; elle était fille du Hugues, petite fille de Raoul et arrière-petite-fille du sire de Coudun.
Par suite du mariage que Marie de Coudun allait contracter avec un seigneur de Bellinglise, du nom de Wathier Hamel, le fief de Marfontaine allait servir de berceau à la famille de Hamel-Bellenglise dont les générations allaient se succéder à Élincourt pendant plusieurs siècles.
1348 - le premier agrandissement du manoir, qui se trouve à gauche et qui repose en retraite sur le mur d’enceinte.
1444 - c’est à cette époque que Jean de Barbaçon et sa femme Marie de Canny, cédèrent la chastellerie de Beauvoir à Louis de Hamel qui devient, par cette acquisition, seigneur haut justicier en partie d’Elincourt.
Devenus par l’acquisition de la chastellerie de Flamenc, hauts justiciers, les Hamel rendirent la justice au château de Bellinglise. La prison est établie dans une tour élevée à gauche de la grille d’entrée du château ; elle est désignée maintenant sous le nom d’horloge.
1631 – le 16 juillet. On voit dans les mémoires de Brienne, qu’un Bellinglise aide Marie de Médicis, mère de Louis XIII, à fuir de Compiègne, par la porte Chapelle, pour gagner Orrouy, Tracy-le-Val, Chauny où elle trouva le carrosse du baron de Crèvecœur.
Claire-Eugénie, dame d’Élincourt vendit en 1661 la terre et seigneur d’Elincourt et se retira à Paris chez les dames de Saint-Chaumont, où elle mourut sans postérité, le 14 novembre 1712, à 83 ans.
Depuis 2005, le château de Bellinglise est exclusivement dédié à l’accueil de séminaires d’entreprises, il est géré par le groupe Châteauform'.
Le second élément -glise représente le terme français église avec aphérèse du é initial.
Ce type toponymique nom de personne germanique + «église» reflète l'influence de la langue des Francs (ou des Saxons) sur la toponymie picarde. Il calque les formations en -kerke, -kirch(e) «église» comme Haverskerque (Nord, Haveskerke en 1362) ou Honskirch (Moselle) composées avec un nom de personne. C'est pourquoi il n'a pas d'équivalent dans la partie sud du domaine d’oïl. En revanche, il existe en Normandie où l'on trouve par exemple les toponymes Buglise (Seine-Maritime, Buiglise vers 1240) ou Arthéglise (Manche, Archetiglise vers 1150) et leur correspondant anglo-scandinave francisé Yvecrique (Seine-Maritime, Yvecriche au XIIe siècle), tous trois basés sur des noms de personnes respectivement norrois et germaniques, -crique représentant le vieux norrois -kirkja «église» utilisé à la manière britannique (noms en -kirk).

Château de Bellinglise

The Château de Pierrefonds is a castle situated in the commune of Pierrefonds in the Oise département (Picardy) of France. It is on the southeast edge of the Forest of Compiègne, northeast of Paris, between Villers-Cotterêts and Compiègne.
The Château de Pierrefonds includes most of the characteristics of defensive military architecture from the Middle Ages, though it underwent a major restoration in the 19th century.
History
In the 12th century, a castle was built on this site. Two centuries later, in 1392, King Charles VI turned the County of Valois (of which Pierrefonds was part) into a Duchy and gave it to his brother Louis, Duke of Orléans. From 1393 to his death in 1407, the latter had the castle rebuilt by the court architect, Jean le Noir.
In March 1617, during the early troubled days of Louis XIII's reign, the castle, then the property of François-Annibal d'Estrées (brother of the beauty Gabrielle d'Estrée), who joined the "parti des mécontents" (party of discontent) led by Henri II, Prince of Condé, was besieged and taken by troops sent by Richelieu, the secretary of state for war. Its demolition was started, but not carried through to the end because of the enormity of the task. The exterior works were razed, the roofs destroyed and holes made in the towers and curtain walls.
The castle remained a ruin for more than two centuries. Napoleon I bought it in 1810 for less than 3,000 francs. During the 19th century, with the rediscovery of the architectural heritage of the Middle Ages, it became a "romantic ruin": in August 1832, Louis-Philippe gave a banquet there on the occasion of the marriage of his daughter Louise to Léopold de Saxe-Cobourg Gotha, first king of the Belgians. Among other artists, Corot depicted the ruins in several works between 1834 and 1866. The Château de Pierrefonds has been classified as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture since 1848.
Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte (later Napoleon III of France) visited the castle in 1850. As emperor, he asked Viollet-le-Duc in 1857 to undertake its restoration, continuators are Maurice Ouadou and Juste Lisch until 1885. There was no question of a simple repair to the habitable parts (the keep and annexes): the "picturesque" ruins in front were to be kept for decor. In 1861, the project grew in scale: the sovereign wanted to create an imperial residence, so the castle was to be entirely rebuilt. The works, which would cost 5 million francs, of which 4 million were to come from the civil list, were stopped in 1885, six years after the death of Viollet-le-Duc. The departure of Napoléon III had halted the reconstruction and, through lack of money, the decoration of rooms was unfinished. Inside, Viollet-le-Duc produced more a work of invention than restoration (polychrome paintings). He imagined how the castle ought to have been, rather than basing his work on the strict history of the building. On the other hand, with the exterior he showed an excellent knowledge of the military architecture of the 14th century.
Castle today
Château de Pierrefonds has been a monument historique since 1862. It is now managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
Media
The castle has often been used as a location for filming including les Visiteurs, Le Capitan, Highlander: The Series, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc and the 1998 version of The Man in the Iron Mask. The castle was used as the setting for Camelot in the BBC series Merlin; a cut scene of this castle was used to portray Wiz Tech Academy in Disney's TV series, Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2017, the castle was used for filming during the Canal+ Netflix series Versailles).

Château de Pierrefonds

Chaalis Abbey (French: Abbaye de Chaalis) was a French Cistercian abbey north of Paris, at Fontaine-Chaalis, near Ermenonville, now in Oise.
History
It was founded in 1136 by Louis VI of France.[1] There had previously been a Benedictine monastery in the same place. The monastery was sold and demolished during the French Revolution but most of the buildings had been ruinous for years previously thanks to mismanagement on the part of the commendatory abbots. Among the ruins, a chapel with important frescos by Primaticcio survives intact.
Museum
The former abbey is now the location of an art museum, the Musée Jacquemart-André.[2] Like the museum of the same name in Paris it houses a part of the former collection of artworks of Nélie Jacquemart-André. At her death in 1912 she gave it to the Institut de France and asked that a museum should be created in Chaalis, where she had spent her childhood.
The museum continues to display this very rich collection which features paintings by Giotto, Cima da Conegliano, Luca Signorelli, Francesco Francia, Lorenzo di Credi, Joos van Cleve, Tintoretto, Palma the Younger, Jan Davidsz de Heem, Philippe de Champaigne, Charles Le Brun, Nicolas de Largillière, François Desportes, François Boucher, Rosalba Carriera, Giovanni Paolo Pannini and Jean-Baptiste Greuze; sculptures by Baccio Bandinelli, François Girardon, Jean-Antoine Houdon, Augustin Pajou, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Edme-François-Étienne Gois; furniture and decorative art; and a collection of Indian items.

Château de Chaalis

The Château de Chantilly s a historic château located in the town of Chantilly, France, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Paris.
The site comprises two attached buildings: the Petit Château built around 1560 for Anne de Montmorency, and the Grand Château, which was destroyed during the French Revolution and rebuilt in the 1870s.
Owned by the Institut de France, the château houses the Musée Condé. It is one of the finest art galleries in France and is open to the public.
History
The estate's connection with the Montmorency family began in 1484. The first mansion (no longer in existence, now replaced by the Grand Château) was built, between 1528 and 1531, for Anne de Montmorency by Pierre Chambiges. The Petit Château was also built for him, around 1560, probably by Jean Bullant. In 1632, after the death of Henri II de Montmorency, it passed to his nephew, the Grand Condé, who inherited it through his mother, Charlotte Marguerite de Montmorency.
Some interesting pieces of history are associated with the château during the 17th century. Molière's play, Les Précieuses ridicules, received its first performance here in 1659. Madame de Sévigné relates in her memoirs that when King Louis XIV of France visited there in 1671, François Vatel, the maître d'hôtel to the Grand Condé, committed suicide when he feared the fish would be served late.
The collection includes important works of the cabinetmaker André-Charles Boulle.
The original mansion was destroyed in the French Revolution. It was repaired in a modest way by Louis Henri II, Prince of Condé, but the entire property was confiscated from the Orléans family, between 1853 and 1872, during which interval it was owned by Coutts, an English bank. Chantilly was entirely rebuilt, between 1875 and 1882, by Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale (1822–1897) to the designs of Honore Daumet. The new château met with mixed reviews. Boni de Castellane summed up one line of thought: "What is today styled a marvel is one of the saddest specimens of the architecture of our era — one enters at the second floor and descends to the salons". In the end, the Duc d'Aumale bequeathed the property to the Institut de France upon his death in 1897.
Musée Condé
The château's art gallery, the Musée Condé, houses one of the finest collections of paintings in France (after the Louvre). It specializes in French paintings and book illuminations of the 15th and 16th centuries.
Works in the art gallery (many of them are in the Tribune Room) include Sassetta's Mystic Marriage of St. Francis, Botticelli's Autumn, Piero di Cosimo's Portrait of Simonetta Vespucci, Raphael's Three Graces and Madonna of Loreto, Guercino's Pietà, Pierre Mignard's Portrait of Molière as well as four of Antoine Watteau's paintings and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot's Le concert champêtre. Other paintings in the collection include works by Fra Angelico, Filippino Lippi, Hans Memling, 260 paintings and drawings by François and Jean Clouet, Veronese, Barocci, Annibale Carracci, Domenichino, Salvator Rosa, Nicolas Poussin, Philippe de Champaigne, Van Dyck, Guido Reni, Jean-Baptiste Greuze, Joshua Reynolds, Eugène Delacroix, Ingres, Géricault.
The library of the Petit Château contains over 1500 manuscripts and 17,500 printed volumes, that is part of the collection of over 700 incunabula, and some 300 medieval manuscripts, including one page of the Registrum Gregorii (c. 983), the Les très riches heures du Duc de Berry, the Ingeborg Psalter and 40 miniatures from Jean Fouquet's Book of Hours of Etienne Chevalier.
The main French formal garden, featuring extensive parterres and water features, was laid out principally by André Le Nôtre for the Grand Condé. The park also contains a French landscape garden with a cascade, pavilions, and a rustic ersatz village, the Hameau de Chantilly. The latter inspired the Hameau de la reine of Marie Antoinette in the Gardens of Versailles.
The estate overlooks the Chantilly Racecourse and the Grandes Écuries (Great Stables) which contains the Living Museum of the Horse. According to legend, Louis Henri, Duc de Bourbon, Prince of Condé believed that he would be reincarnated as a horse after his death. In 1719, he asked the architect, Jean Aubert to build stables suitable to his rank.
The World Monuments Fund included the site in the 1998 World Monuments Watch to call attention to water infiltration and high humidity in the Galerie des Actions de Monsieur le Prince, and again in the 2002 World Monuments Watch due to the precarious condition of the entire estate. Funding for restoration work was provided from various sources, including American Express and the Generali Group. Subsequently, in response to an appeal for the restoration of the château, The Aga Khan donated €40m, accounting for more than half of a €70m needed by the Institut de France to complete the project. In 2008 the World Monuments Fund completed the restoration of the Grande Singerie, a salon with paintings on the walls of monkeys engaged in human activities, once a fashionable salon motif, but with few examples surviving today.
Modern uses
The château and the Great Stables were featured in the 1985 James Bond movie A View to a Kill, as the home of villainous Max Zorin (played by Christopher Walken) which was being infiltrated by Bond (played for the last time by Roger Moore) in his quest to find out more about Zorin, who had already aroused suspicions of MI6 with various business activities, and ultimately eliminate him.
Pink Floyd performed, on two consecutive nights, at the château during their The Division Bell tour on July 30–31, 1994.
Every two years, in June, the "Nuits de Feu" international fireworks competition is held in the château's garden.
Ronaldo married model and MTV VJ Daniela Cicarelli in the château in 2005. The ceremony reportedly cost €700,000.
Every May, a rowing regatta, the Trophee des Rois, is held in the grounds. French university crews compete in the 750m race for a trophy.
David Gilmour, guitarist and singer of Pink Floyd performed at the venue on 16 July 2016 as part of his Rattle That Lock world tour.
The video game Battlefield 1 features a level that is based around the Château called "Ballroom Blitz".
