Description

With its 25-meter high tower built in ashlar stone, a palace and a section of wall built in the late 14th or early 15th century standing high on a hill, it looks as though it came out of a fairytale.

This architectural complex was crucial to the Salinas de Añana - Puentelarrá salt route, used to distribute salt to Castile and Bizkaia. It belonged to the Hurtado de Mendoza family and these, although from Álava, constructed it very much in the style of Castilian strongholds. In the 16th century the Hurtado de Mendoza family became the Counts de Orgaz.
