The Castle of Los Luna presides over the beautiful medieval town of Cornago, in La Rioja Baja. It is located in the highest part of the town, on a hill, and its stately silhouette is visible from kilometers away, next to the church of San Pedro.
The castle is a quadrangular construction of ashlar masonry with towers at each corner and a gateway with a pointed arch. It dates from the fifteenth century, although there is evidence that it was built in the location of a former fortress. It belonged to Los Luna, a powerful family of Aragonese origin with two particularly famous members: Pedro Martinez de Luna, who became known as the "Papa Luna" Benedict XIII, and Álvaro de Luna, Constable of Castile. His daughter Maria de Luna lived in the castle and made several reforms in it.
In a small rock located between the castle and the church you can see several dinosaur footprints, which are abundant in this area of ​​La Rioja.

El castillo de Arnedo es una fortificación localizada en la ciudad de Arnedo, en comunidad autónoma española de La Rioja. Domina la ciudad y el curso del río Cidacos.​ Las primeras construcciones defensivas que se construyeron en la colina donde hoy en día se encuentra el castillo se remontan a la época romana.​ Después de la invasión árabe, éstos reconstruyeron —se considera al siglo IX fecha de la construcción—​ sobre los restos anteriores una nueva fortaleza defensiva.​ Durante la Edad Media fue el castillo más importante de la región​ y pasó de manos árabes a cristianas y viceversa en varias ocasiones durante la Reconquista.

Castillo de Arnedo

El castillo de Quel es una fortaleza construida en el año 1470. Está ubicado en Quel, La Rioja, España.
Localización
Se sitúa en un cerro de suaves laderas por el norte y escarpado por el sur. Cuenta con unos 100 metros de altura, desde donde se podía vigilar y comunicarse con otras fortalezas como el castillo de Autol y el castillo de Arnedo. Este cerro les permitía a los habitantes del castillo en caso de ataque, solo podría ser por tres lados.

Castillo de Quel

The castle of Magaña is considered to be one of the most important castles from the 15th century in the province of Soria. This castle is in better condition than what we are used to seeing in the area and the best way to contemplate its majestic silhouette is from the road on the way towards Fuentes de Magaña or from the highest parts of the town. You will be able to see all the plants that have reclaimed its walls contrasting with the ochre tones of the landscape where the tall keep sticks out from its hiding place in the middle of the castle’s courtyard.
It is located on a steep hill near the town and it dominates the valley of the Alhama River over which a medieval bridge crosses. On the hillside, there is a chapel with a rectangular apse which some authors believe to be pre-Romanesque.
The castle is built of stone and is organised into two walled enclosures around the 9th or 11th-century Berber keep, much older than the rest of the ensemble and belonging to a group of Berber towers that were erected all throughout the valley of the Rituerto River, such as the Masegoso, Trévago, Noviercas, Castellanos, La Pica or Aldealpozo towers. This tower still maintains the original battlement hexes and some windows framed with ashlar stonework.
The inner enclosure has very tall walls and has a quadrangular floor plan with the keep at one of its corners and cube-shaped structures on the other two. The outer one is much lower and its floor plan is quite irregular with seven cube-shaped structures scattered throughout the hill’s perimeter.

Castle of Magaña


To the west of the town, on the edge of the cliff, there is this limestone castle that controlled the access to the Ebro valley. You can still see the sections and holes on the fortress’ walls that supported the formwork.
It has a quadrangular floor plan and towers on each of the corners. On the walls, there are battlement hexes, a chemin de ronde and narrow loophole windows. There are also two gates, one on the west and the other on the east side, that gave access to the castle.
It is not certain when it was first built and it is possible that it was built when Yanguas received its own town charter. However, the architectonical style suggests that it was built in the 14th century.
Recent restoration works have given the castle back the dignity it deserves to be a heritage site and have made it possible to understand the defensive function of the unique columned and cobbled weapon yard. Another feature that has been restored is the tower on the north-western side.
The defensive wall that surrounded the town of Yanguas had two gates, one on the lower part near the Cidacos River and another one on the northern side. The first gate, called the River Gate, was used to control the products that entered the village and to charge taxes on them. This gate is double arched, with a rounded arch and a pointed one, all built with local stones. The second gate, called the Village Gate, has been modified throughout the years, and like many other historic forts, it was destroyed during the Independence War. Nowadays, it is a simple lintelled structure next to the lookout, El Paredón, which offers a spectacular view of the northern part of Yanguas.
