Built in the Middle Ages to control traffic on the River Júcar, this Gothic structure is the best conserved of the four castles that exist in Cortes. It stands at the top of a series of high cliffs, forming a natural defensive barrier, with spectacular views over the canyon of the Júcar and Cortes itself. Access is via the paved track that runs between Cortes de Pallás and Cofrentes, and then up a footpath that is commonly used by hikers.
