High up in Burguillos del Cerro, in the province of Badajoz, stands its defensive castle, of Muslim origin.
This impressive fortress, built in the 13th century and divided into two parts, stands o a rocky hilltop that dominates the village of Burguillos del Cerro.
The main block of this castle stands on top of this hill. In it you can visit the towers that form the corners, the parade ground on the inside and the chambers of the castle, as well as the striking keep. This formation stands out from all the rest due to its large size and a much more voluminous lower section.
Originally it was owned by Muslims but later came to belong to the Order of the Temple, vestiges of which you can still find on the inner section, framed by an entrance via an attractive Gothic doorway.
