The Castle of Arcos de la Frontera (Spanish: Castillo de Arcos de la Frontera) is a castle located in Arcos de la Frontera, Spain. It was declared Bien de Interés Cultural in 1993.

The castle was first constructed in the 11th century by the Moors when Arcos was briefly a taifa (small kingdom) before being captured by the Christians in 1250. The Christians rebuilt the castle as part of their campaign to retain their hold on the town, which was in a strategically important position for maintaining the border between the Muslim and Christian kingdoms.
The town's suffix de la Frontera (of the frontier) was added at this time and denotes this struggle for territory. Following the Christian conquest the castle became the home of the Duke of Arcos. The castle is now privately owned and is not open to the public.

The Fatetar Castle is located on the top of the Monte Fatetar (Mount Fatetar), in the highest part of the town and enyoy stunning views of both, the village and its surroundings.
Apparently the Fatetar Castle was built by Abderrahman III in 914. Though its origins are not well known, many cultures haved passed through this place, such as the Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, Muslims and Christians.
Features: The Fatetar Castle has a rhomboid shape. Today you can still observe its keep and the remains of its walls. Next to the Castle is the chapel of the castle.
Origin: Not exactly knows the origin of this castle, apparently settled on the ruins of an ancient Roman fortress and the Visigoths up another, etc, etc.

Fatetar Castle

Castillo de Gigonza is located in San José del Valle in the province of Cádiz, southern Spain. It is situated on the road from Medina Sidonia to Arcos de la Frontera, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from Paterna de Rivera. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural monument in 1993. In 2009, it was reported that the Socialist Party of San José del Valle denounced restoration work being done at Castillo de Gigonza on the castle tower, the chapel, the adjoining houses and courtyards, stating the work was illegal and unlicensed.
The fortified site has been in existence since antiquity. The present castle is of Andalusian origin and almost square in shape, with two parts to its structure. A narrow and low door contains a lintel with two heavy imposts. The upper floor is vaulted and contains windows. The grounds contain a surrounding fence. The courtyard is accessed through a door with and arch, displaying a coat of arms of the Casa de Arcos.

Castle of Gigonza

Castle of Matrera (Spanish: Castillo de Matrera/Torre Matrera) is a medieval castle at Villamartín in Spain dating back to 9th century. It was declared a national monument in 1949 and an example of Bien de Interés Cultural ("Heritage of Cultural Interest") in 1985. The structure underwent a controversial restoration in 2015.

By 2010, only a few walls of the castle remained standing, and the ruins were further damaged by rain in 2013. A restoration project was launched in 2010, led by the architect Carlos Quevado, and completed in 2015. Parts of the tower were rebuilt with lime plaster similar to samples found on the site, with large, plain blocks defining the original shape of the castle. Quevado described his aim as being not only to protect the ruin, but to "recover the volume, texture and tonality that the tower would originally have had", and to differentiate new additions from the original structure.

The renovation received negative reactions from some locals, with Spain's cultural heritage organization Hispania nostra calling the project "absolutely terrible". It was praised by the architectural community, and was nominated for the 2016 Architizer A+ Award, in the Architecture Preservation category, winning the public choice vote. The Guardian described the design as neo-brutalist, and praised it for restoring "the clout its Moorish creators originally intended".
