Schloss Weißenstein is a Schloss or palatial residence in Pommersfelden, Bavaria, southern Germany. It was designed for Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Prince-Bishop of Bamberg and Archbishop of Mainz, to designs by Johann Dientzenhofer and Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt. Weißenstein, built as a private summer residence, remains in the Schönborn family. It is considered a masterwork of Baroque art.

Schloss Weißenstein is located in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg in the village of Pommersfelden, Bavaria, Germany.

In 1710, Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Prince-Bishop of Bamberg and Archbishop of Mainz, inherited the estate after the local family, the Truchsesse of Pommersfelden had died out. He ordered the construction of a palace as a private summer residence, paid for from his personal wealth. In 1711, he had helped ensure the election of Karl VI who rewarded him with a gift of 100,000 gulden. A team of architects including Johann Dientzenhofer who had previously built the Fulda Cathedral and the church at Kloster Banz and Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, the court architect of Emperor Karl VI, worked on the palace. The Marstall (stables) and park were designed by Schönborn's own court architect, Maximilian von Welsch. Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn designed many of the outbuildings. The local head of construction was the Jesuit priest Nikolaus Loyson (1676–1720).

The palace was built between 1711 and 1719 from local sandstone materials, the colour of which gave rise to the name of the palace ("white stone"). The grand stairway was the first such structure built in the Baroque style in Germany. The interior art was finished in 1723. Contributors included Johann Michael Rottmayr, Johann Rudolf Byss and Giovanni Francesco Marchini (de).

After the death of Lothar Franz in 1729, the palace passed to his nephew Friedrich Karl von Schönborn who had the park expanded. A plan by Balthasar Neumann was however, only partially realized. In the early 19th century, the park was transformed from its original Baroque form into an English landscape garden.

During the Seven Years' War the palace was attacked and damaged by Prussian troops.

Minor restoration work was done in the late 19th century. More recently, preservation work has been done between 1975 and 2003.

The main building (corps de logis) is flanked by two wings that open towards the inner courtyard by way of arcades. In the direction of this cour d'honneur the central part of the main building extends quite noticeably, to accommodate the large central staircase. The middle pavilion of the main wing sits on a pedestal-like ground floor and features two full upper floors with high windows. The other parts of the building have only one main floor and one mezzanine floor, with the exception of the pavilions sitting at the end of the two wings, which have two main floors and one mezzanine floor (the latter housing the guest rooms). All the facades are covered by light gray sandstone, sculptures and window frames are made from yellow-greenish sandstone.

The triangular gable of the main building on the garden front with its coat of arms of the Schönborns has been carved from the same material. Colossal statues of Endymion and Diana flank the gable. It is ornamented by two figures, one holding a sheaf, the other a horn of plenty. All of these were likely made by Nikolaus Rösch. The gable is topped by a statue of Atlas holding up the sky.

The gable facing the cour d'honneur also has the family coat of arms, flanked by lions and crowned by Mercury. To the left is a figure of Athena, a symbol of peace and science, to the right is a warrior with spear and torch, symbolizing the just-ended War of the Spanish Succession. The gable also shows a lute player and a figure holding another Schönborn coat of arms.

There are four sculpture groups (sandstone) in front of the ground floor of the main pavilion, two each on the garden and the courtyard side. They were likely made by Burkard Zammels, who worked here in 1718-20. On the garden front, the statues show Pluto and Proserpina on the left and Apollo and Daphne on the right. On the cour d'honneur side, the figures are somewhat obscure and have been interpreted as allegories of Justice & Victory and Vigilance & Truth. A carved dog wears a collar with the initials "LFC", referring to the builder, Lothar Franz Churfürst.

The grand staircase extends through all three floors of the main pavilion. As suggested by Hildebrandt, galleries overlook the stairwell on both upper floors. The large ceiling fresco by Johann Rudolf Byss (1713), who later became the director of the palace gallery of paintings, shows the four then known continents, around a central sun wagon of Phoebus Apollo. Sculptures (Jupiter, Juno, Urania and Cosmos) were made by Zammels. The vases, putti and pair of children are by P. Benkert and his workshop. Stucco work was done by Daniel Schenk. Painted railings that extend the real architectural features are by Marchini.

He also was responsible for Trompe-l'œil work in the Gartensaal flight of rooms on the ground floor, accessed between the two flights of stairs. His work is in evidence in both side halls. To the west he created an image of Ionic columns flanking views of an ideal Italian landscape under a sky populated by Flora and Pomona floating on clouds. To the east, painted columns give views of angels who face a "collapsing" entryway. The central hall has a ceiling fresco showing the allegorical "times of the day" by Johann Jakob Gerbhardt. The room had been turned into a grotto by Georg Hennicke, who applied semi-precious stones and seashells to the walls. He also added various animal and putti figures. The four larger-than-life stucco statues of the four elements were made by Zammels.

On the first floor is the main hall of the palace, the Marmorsaal (marble hall), also facing the garden. Pilasters and columns of red stucco marble are set off from green walls. Situated on sills are stucco figurines by Zammels, showing allegories of the Turkish and Persian monarchies on the inner wall and of the Roman and Greek monarchies on the outer wall. In the corners, the Four Ages are depicted. The ceiling fresco by Franz Michael Rottmayr shows Aurora greeted by Juno, Venus and Dionysus. In the center of each wall a virtue is shown: Justice, Strength, Industry and Wisdom. Stucco work by Daniel Schenk shows putti, vases and eagles.

The right wing contains the palace gallery of paintings and its library, with stucco work by D. Schenk and G. Hennicke after 1713. Schönborn had collected a large number of paintings by contemporary artists, many of them Dutch, that were hung in up to four vertical rows, completely covering the gallery walls. He especially treasured painting of members of his family, of the Habsburgs and other rulers and rare animal motives. Schönborn also collected East Asian porcelain delivered to him en masse by members of the Jesuits whom he supported. Other collections include Faiences made in Delft, glass and sea shells.

The palace chapel features three important works of art: an Italian Lamentation of Christ (17th century), a Man of Sorrows from Spain (ca. 1730) and a late-Gothic Mother of God.

The Marstall is located to the south of the cour d'honneur and is connected to the side wings of the palace by wrought-iron railings. Built by Johann Dientzendorffer based on plans by Maximilian von Welsch 1714-7 it has a concave front facing the courtyard. It was constructed with one floor less than originally intended. The Marstall features double columns adorning the central part which is topped by a clock tower. Below this is an oval hall, the ceiling with a fresco of Perseus and Andromeda by G.F. Marchini.

Construction of the formal garden was begun by von Welsch in 1715. After 1722, on the suggestion of his nephew Friedrich Carl, Schönborn summoned Abraham Huber from Salzburg, who by 1723 had the fountains running. The statuary was added only after Lothar Franz' death in 1741. The linden avenue was planted in 1768 with 200 linden trees from the Aischer Wald. Transformation of the formal Baroque garden into an English landscape garden began as early as 1786 under Hugo Damian Erwein von Schönborn-Wiesentheid (de) and was completed in the 19th century.

The Schloss remains the property of the Schönborn family. It is considered a Baroque masterwork and the combination of exterior and well-preserved interiors gives it European importance.

The palace and its park are open to the public. The Marstall and Orangerie today house a hotel (currently closed).

The palace contains the largest private Baroque art collection in Germany, containing over 600 pictures. Baroque and Renaissance artists represented include Peter Paul Rubens, Albrecht Dürer, Titian, Rembrandt and Anthony van Dyck.

Schloss Weißenstein

The castle in Forchheim (German: Burg in Forchheim), also referred to as a royal palace or Kaiserpfalz, was an important urban castle under the bishops of Bamberg in the town of Forchheim in the south German state of Bavaria. The castle was built in the late 14th century. After comprehensive archaeological and architectural-historical investigation it has become one of the best researched castles of this period in Central Europe. Today it houses the Archaeological Museum of Upper Franconia.

The oldest part of the castle is in the west wing where the cabinet (Kemenate) of the Schultheiß has survived, a room which was built onto the old town wall in 1339.

Site of the early medieval Kaiserpfalz?

From the 9th to the early 11th centuries there was a Frankish royal court (Königshof) and a palace (Pfalz) in Forchheim (see the history of Forchheim). Its exact location is, however, not known. In the late 19th century it was thought to be on the site of the episcopal urban castle, which was also referred to as the Pfalz ("palace") or Kaiserpfalz ("imperial palace"). However, archaeological investigations carried out during the renovation of the castle from 1998 to 2004 uncovered no remains of an early medieval settlement at all. Nevertheless even in recent literature by Tillman Kohnert (2008), the Pfalz is still seen as the direct predecessor to the episcopal castle. And the castle still retains the name of Kaiserpfalz, a name which has been adopted for decades and is used as the official name of the castle.

The castle around 1400

From the late 14th century the bishops of Bamberg, especially Bishop Lambert of Buren, built an urban castle that became their most important residence outside of the immunity of Bamberg Cathedral. The centrepiece of the castle is the so-called Great Cabinet (Große Kemenate), the former residence, which was built in the east of the castle from 1391. In the cabinet an extensive stone chamber forced-air heating system has survived. Of great art-historical significance are the Gothic murals, some of which are even by Bohemian masters.

Description

Exterior

The almost square castle site is surrounded by moats. Until around 1550 the fortress at the northwest corner of the town was incorporated into the town fortifications. North of the castle, is the only surviving medieval town gate, the Saltor Tower (Saltorturm). In the 16th century a modern bastioned fortification, based on Italian designs, was constructed in front of the remains of the medieval town wall. North and west of the castle district, two large casemated "Old Italian" bastions escaped the fate of demolition that other parts of Forchheim Fortress suffered in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Large parts of the main house and the courtyard buildings go back to the 14th century. The eastern part of the main house is joined to the courtyard buildings on the west side by walls and timber-framed passageways. The two upper storeys of the northwest wing have also been executed in a simple, timber-framed style as far as the castle courtyard.

In the middle of the 16th century the urban castle was remodelled. It was at that time that the picturesque, timber-framed walkways on the curtain walls were constructed. In 1603 work began on building an octagonal staircase tower in front of the four-storey main house. The mighty half-hipped roof of the main house dates to the 18th century. Originally the east wing was covered by a gable roof with crow-stepped gables. Since 1768/69 a sandstone bridge has spanned the moat in front of the gateway on the south side. Previously access had been protected by a drawbridge. Next to it, a rectangular Renaissance oriel with a shed roof enhances the architectural impression. The rather austere south front of the ensemble is brought to life mainly by the timber framing (Sichtfachwerk) above the gateway. A typical Franconian motif is the frieze made of numerous, small curved St. Andrew's crosses underneath the window area.

On the east façade of the main wing are three reliefs depicting coats of arms. On the second storey is the official coat of arms of Prince-Bishop John Philip of Gebsattel. The third storey bears the coat of arms of Bishop Lamprecht of Brunn and the Hochstift. A high medieval sculpture of a basilisk has been engraved into the south wall; it has been dated to the 12th century.

The addition of a modern, steel and glass staircase and lift tower in the north of the east wing has been highly controversial. This feature was needed to turn the castle into a museum.

Interior rooms

East Wing

The East Wing of the castle is divided into two parts by a transverse wall running the width of the building. The north part is somewhat larger than the south part. The barrel-roofed cellar goes back to the 14th century. The ceilings of the two halls on the ground floor are borne on sandstone columns.

The flat ceiling of the north room rests on a round column and a wooden beam. The south part was vaulted later, resulting in a twin-aisled hall comprising four bays that are covered by cross vaults. In former times a passageway led from here to St. Mary's Chapel. On the walls of the hall fragments of fresco-secco (painting on dry plaster) from the period around 1400 have survived, which are stylistically related to contemporary Bohemian art. A fragment shows the Biblical and historical figure of King David of ancient Israel. Like the murals in the other halls these paintings are among the most important Gothic murals in South Germany.

The chapel was originally located in the southern part of the first floor. The vaulting was done in the early modern period; and the hall was divided by an internal dividing wall. The murals of the old chapel have survived and indicate its original function and arrangement. It includes depictions of the prophets, the Adoration of the Magi, the Annunciation and the Last Judgement. Two paintings with secular content have been interpreted by H. Kehrer as referring to the weak king, Wenceslaus. The paintings were clearly done by different masters. The Adoration of the Magi, again, appears to be derived from the field of Bohemian art. The Last Judgement, by contrast, is in the latest Forchheim style, which was derived from the Nuremberg art of the early 15th century. The northern hall, like that on the ground floor, is covered by a flat ceiling which, however, rests on wooden beams.

On the second floor of the northern end of the wing is also a twin-aisled, flat-ceiling hall with a wooden centre beam. The architectural paintings were done by Jakob Ziegler in the years 1559/60. The south room is likewise a two-aisled hall. The flat ceiling is supported on an octagonal centre frame. The murals, of various themes, were also created by Jakob Ziegler. One of the paintings shows Saints Henry II and Cunigunde with the model of Bamberg Cathedral (drawn in 1599, south wall).

The third floor was conceived as a storage area and currently serves as a museum depot. The old staircase tower hides a stone circular staircase which opens into the northern part of the east wing.

West Wing

The West Wing, the former side wing, acts as offices for the castle museums. No significant historical interior features have survived here.

Forchheim Castle

Jägersburg ist ein ehemaliges Jagdschloss, das zum Markt Eggolsheim gehört.

Geschichte

Durch die Verwaltungsreformen zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts im Königreich Bayern wurde das ehemalige Jagdschloss der Grafen von Schönborn mit dem Zweiten Gemeindeedikt 1818 ein Gemeindeteil der Landgemeinde Bammersdorf. Im Zuge der kommunalen Gebietsreform in Bayern in den 1970er Jahren wurde der Ort zusammen mit der Gemeinde Bammersdorf am 1. Juli 1972 in den Markt Eggolsheim eingegliedert. In der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts bestand in Jägersburg ein Altersheim, zu dieser Zeit hatte der Ort 1987 83 Einwohner. Nachdem die Nutzung aufgegeben worden war, wurde der Gebäudekomplex für Veranstaltungszwecke umgestaltet.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Das von 1721 bis 1728 für Lothar Franz von Schönborn nach Plänen von Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn errichtete Jagdschlosses ist eine Barockanlage aus mehreren denkmalgeschützten Gebäudeteilen, neben dem Hauptbau unter anderem ein Torturm und eine Kapelle.

Jagersburg (Eggolsheim)

Das Schloss Atzelsberg, das sich im bayerischen Marloffstein befindet, wurde zum ersten Mal in der ersten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts erwähnt. Man geht jedoch davon aus, dass Vorgängerbauten existierten, die möglicherweise bis ins 12. Jahrhundert zurückreichten.

1450 wurde das Schloss im Ersten Markgrafenkrieg zerstört. Im Anschluss baute man es wieder auf, ehe es im Zweiten Markgrafenkrieg 1553 erneut dem Erdboden gleichgemacht wurde. Vermutlich standen nur noch Mauerreste und Teile des Turms. Einige Gebäude wurden in den folgenden Jahren wieder aufgebaut, darunter ein Wohnhaus, in dem sich der damalige Besitzer aufhielt. Einer erneuten Zerstörung im Dreißigjährigen Krieg, konnte sich das Schloss Atzelsberg nicht entziehen. Bis ins frühe 18. Jahrhundert wechselten immer wieder die Besitzer, ein Wiederaufbau ging kaum voran. Die Wende kam im Jahr 1705, als der neue Besitzer Johann Conradt von Seutter das Schloss in neuem Glanz erstrahlen ließ.

Weitere Besitzerwechsel folgten. Im Jahr 1848 wurde aus dem Rittergut ein Schlossgut, was zur Folge hatte, dass die Gutsuntertanen zu Gutspächtern wurden. 1961 kaufte die Stadt Erlangen Schloss Atzelsberg und wollte es aufwendig renovieren. Da man das Geld dafür nicht aufbringen konnte, verkaufte man das Gebäude wieder.

Heute befindet sich auf Schloss Atzelsberg nicht nur ein Standesamt, es gibt auch eine Gaststätte, Räume können für Feierlichkeiten oder Tagungen angemietet werden und seit 14.11.2010 finden jeden Sonntag Schlossführungen statt.

Nach meinen Informationen ist eine Besichtigung von Schloss Atzelsberg möglicherweise möglich (eventuell nur eine Außenbesichtigung). Genaue Informationen dazu und zu den Öffnungszeiten und Besichtigungszeiten liegen mir aber leider noch nicht vor. Zu Schloss Atzelsberg liegen mir noch keine Informationen zu einem Hotel vor. Das Restaurant der Burg/des Schlosses bietet eine vielfältige Küche. Im Bistro oder Café erhalten Sie kleine Speisen und Getränke. Schloss Atzelsberg bietet sich heute mit seiner Tagungstechnik, Tagungsraum, Konferenzraum auch für Seminare oder geschäftliche Events an. In Schloss Atzelsberg finden Sie ein Standesamt oder zumindest die Außenstelle des Standesamtes Erlangen-Höchstadt für die Zeremonie der standesamtlichen Trauung. Zu einer Kirche oder Kapelle direkt auf dem Gelände liegen mir keine Informationen vor. Der Bankettsaal, Ballsaal oder größere Raum ermöglicht eine Hochzeitsfeier mit Bewirtung.

Schloss Atzelsberg

The Schloss Erlangen is a residence in Erlangen, built between 1700 and 1704 by George William, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth. Work was initially led by Antonio della Porta and after his death in 1702 by Gottfried von Gedeler. It was the first baroque building built from scratch in Franconia.

Christian Ernst moved his third wife Margravine Elisabeth Sophie of Brandenburg into the Schloss in 1703 when it was still incomplete, giving it its initial name, the Elisabethenburg. Behind it was a 280 metre wide and 550 metre long garden with an orangery (completed in 1706), the Konkordienkirche (completed in 1706, now the Geological Institute), the Hugenottenbrunnen fountain, an equestrian statue and a now-lost Sylvan theater.

After a short time as a princely residence, the castle served as a widow's residence until the early 19th century. It suffered several fires in the 18th century and on 14 January 1814 a final serious fire broke out in a roof space filled with rubbish - it could not be extinguished since the temperature was -25 ° C and the water froze in the hoses and even once the water had been heated the syringes could not pump it high enough. The castle was completely destroyed and only its furniture was saved.

It was only rebuilt between 1821 and 1825, to plans by the university architect Friedrich Wilhelm Örtel with much flatter rooves than the original structure, and used to house the library of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität. It was used as a reserve hospital during the First and Second World Wars and after 1945 it has only been used by the university.

Markgrafliches Schloss Erlangen

Das Egloffsteinsche Palais (auch Palais Egloffstein) ist das größte barocke Adelspalais in Erlangen. Das Gebäude mit den Adressen Friedrichstraße 17 und Südliche Stadtmauerstraße 28 wurde 1718 erbaut und beherbergt heute die Volkshochschule der Stadt Erlangen sowie das Deutsch-Französische Institut Erlangen.

Beschreibung
Die durchweg zweigeschossige Vierflügelanlage aus unverputzten Sandsteinquadern liegt in der Erlanger Neustadt. Der Gebäudekomplex stellt den östlichen Kopfbau des Häuserblocks zwischen Friedrichstraße im Norden und Südlicher Stadtmauerstraße im Süden dar. Die drei Straßenflügel werden durch Walmdächer bedeckt. Mit einer Grundfläche von 30 × 63 Metern ist das Egloffsteiner Palais der größte der ehemaligen Adelssitze in Erlangen. Der vom Hof aus zugängliche vierte Flügel im Westen des Komplexes, der wohl anstelle eines Gartens errichtet wurde, enthielt früher Pferdestallungen und Wagenremisen.

Die östliche Front zur Schuhstraße hin weist 21 Fensterachsen auf, wobei die drei mittleren Achsen durch einen als Risalit gestalteten Saalbau mit Mansarddach betont werden. Die Ecken des im Obergeschoss etwas erhöhten Risalits sind mit Lisenen ausgezeichnet. Weitere Lisenen gliedern die jeweils dreiachsigen Eckabschnitte der Fassade, deren in Dreiergruppen angeordneten Fenster flache Rahmungen aufweisen. Mit Ausnahme der Eckabschnitte verläuft zwischen Erd- und Obergeschoss ein Gurtgesims.

Die Fassaden der Nord- und Südflügel des Palais weisen jeweils zehn Achsen auf und sind wie Eckzonen der östlichen Front an der Schuhstraße gegliedert. Axial besitzen diese Fassaden jeweils ein Korbbogen-Portal mit Bügelverdachung auf dorischen Pilastern und schmiedeeisernen Oberlicht. Die Südfront besitzt zudem an der rechten Eckachse einen Balkon auf Konsolvoluten, bei dem die Brüstung allerdings entfernt und die Balkontür zu einem Fenster hochgemauert wurde. August Gebessler vermutet aufgrund der „mit sparsamen Mittelen bewirkte[n], organische[n] Belebung der Hauptfront“, dass die Planung von einem der bedeutenderen Architekten Erlangens stammt.

Im Inneren ist vor allem der Festsaal im Obergeschoss des Saalbaus bemerkenswert, dessen bedeutende Stuckausstattung dem Bayreuther Meister Andrea Domenico Cadenazzi zugeschrieben wird und aus den Jahren 1720 bis 1725 stammt. Das ovale Deckenfeld des Saales zeigt als Flachrelief Apollo auf dem Sonnenwagen und die liegende Göttin Ceres, umgeben von reich motivierten Bandel- und Gitterwerk. Über den stirnseitigen Marmorkaminen befinden sich in dekorativen Wandfeldern Reliefbüsten römischer Kaiser unter Lambrequins. In den Ecken stehen Kandelaber aus Stuck, deren bewegter Aufbau mit Putti-Medaillons verziert ist. Einfache gefelderte Stuckdecken finden sich darüber hinaus in den Eingangshallen. Die übrige Stuckausstattung ist nicht mehr vorhanden.

Erhalten haben sich außerdem die Treppengeländer aus Holzbalustern und die Holzgalerie des Hofes mit gedrehten Balustern.

Geschichte
Das Egloffsteinsche Palais wurde 1718 für Carl Maximilian von Egloffstein am damaligen Stadtrand an der heutigen Friedrichstraße erbaut, an der sich in der Folge auch andere Adelsfamilien niederließen. 1723 erteilte der Markgraf von Bayreuth Egloffstein für das Haus die Befreiung von allen Lasten in Kriegs- und Friedenszeiten. Nach dem Tod von Carl Maximilian von Egloffstein im Jahr 1733 ging das Palais an seinen Neffen Albrecht Christoph über, der es aufgrund finanzieller Probleme bereits um 1739 an die markgräfliche Regierung verkaufte. Diese nutze das Gebäude für kurze Zeit zur Unterbringung der Erlanger Amtshauptmannschaft, bevor sie es 1745 im Tausch gegen ein Haus in Bayreuth der Universität Erlangen überließ, die dort die Einrichtung eines anatomisches Theaters, eines chemischen Laboratoriums und einer Sternwarte beabsichtigte. Aufgrund fehlender finanzieller Mittel konnten diese Pläne jedoch nicht umgesetzt werden. Nachdem die Universität keine passende Verwendung für das Egloffsteinsche Palais fand, verkaufte sie es 1749 für insgesamt 8000 Gulden an die Stadt Erlangen.

Im Vorderhaus an der Friedrichstraße richtete die Stadt 1750 ein Armen- und Arbeitshaus ein. Anlass hierfür war die Missernte des Jahres 1746 gewesen, die zu einer großen Not in den unteren sozialen Schichten geführt hatte. Gleichzeitig wurde im Hinterhaus an der südlichen Stadtmauerstraße ein Waisenhaus als Maßnahme gegen den Kinderbettel untergebracht. Nachdem das Armen- und Beschäftigungshaus bereits nach kurzer Zeit wieder eingegangen war, beschloss die Stadt das Anwesen zu teilen: Während das Waisenhaus im Rückgebäude weiter bestand, wurde der Gebäudeteil an der Friedrichstraße zusammen mit dem Saalbau an der Schuhstraße im Jahr 1763 für ca. 5100 Gulden an den Geheimrat und Freiherrn Johann Gustav Adolf Buirette von Oehlefeld verkauft, dessen Familie eine bedeutende Rolle in der Geschichte Erlangens im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert spielte. Nach dem Tod Johann Gustav Adolfs 1803 veräußerten seine Frau und sein Sohn Karl Ludwig das Haus an der Friedrichstraße an die beiden Kinder des Geheimrats Friedrich August von Ausin, ein Schwager Karl Ludwig Buirette von Oehlefelds. Ausin war Stadtpräsident und stand damit an der Spitze der Verwaltung Erlangens. Der Wert des Anwesens wurde 1815 auf 26.050 Gulden geschätzt. Ausins Sohn Alexander, der ab 1828 alleiniger Besitzer des Gebäudes an der Friedrichstraße war, verkaufte es 1836 an den Tabakfabrikanten Christoph Simmerlein aus Bruck, der das Haus zu einer Tabakfabrik umbaute. Seine Erben veräußerten das Anwesen schließlich 1860 an die Stadt Erlangen, womit beide Teile des Egloffsteinschen Palais wieder in einer Hand waren.

Das Rückgebäude blieb nach dem Verkauf des Vorderhauses an Buirette von Oehlefeld 1763 im Besitz der Stadt, die dort weiterhin ein Waisenhaus betrieb. Letzteres wurde 1776 mit dem vom Theologieprofessor Georg Friedrich Seiler gegründeten Armeninstitut verbunden, wodurch die etwa 60 bis 100 Kinder nun auch Elementarunterricht erhielten. 1783/84 wurde das zuvor nur eingeschossige Haus an der südlichen Stadtmauerstraße um einen Stock erhöht. Das Obergeschoss diente in der Folge als Wohnung. Aufgrund sinkender finanzieller Mittel wurde das Waisenhaus zusammen mit der Armenschule 1806 geschlossen und die Kinder zur Pflege an bürgerliche Familien gegeben, wodurch nun auch das Erdgeschoss vermietet werden konnte. Der bekannteste Bewohner dieser Zeit war der Dichter und Orientalist Friedrich Rückert, der mit seiner Familie zwischen ab Frühjahr 1832 im ersten Stock des ehemaligen Waisenhauses lebte. Zur Wohnung gehörte auch ein Garten auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite an der damaligen Stadtmauer. Im Winter 1833/34 starben die Kinder Ernst und Luise im Egloffsteinschen Palais, deren Tod Rückert in den bekannten Kindertodtenliedern verarbeitete. 1837 zog die Landwirtschafts- und Gewerbeschule in das ehemalige Waisenhaus umzog, musste Rückert mit seiner Familie 1838 ausziehen. An ihn erinnert heute eine Gedenktafel an der Fassade des Hauses.

Nachdem die Stadt wieder in den Besitz des gesamten Egloffsteinschen Palais gekommen war, verblieb die Landwirtschafts- und Gewerbeschule zunächst im Rückgebäude, während im Vorderhaus an der Friedrichstraße von 1868 bis 1877 Teile des 6. Königlich Bayerischen Jägerbataillons unterkamen. Nach dessen Umzug in eine neue Kaserne diente das gesamte Gebäude ab 1877 zur Unterbringung der sechsstufigen Realschule, die aus der Landwirtschafts- und Gewerbeschule hervorgegangen war und 1924 verstaatlicht wurde. 1927 wurde die Schule in eine Oberrealschule mit vollwertigem Abitur umgewandelt. Die Räumlichkeiten im Egloffsteinschen Palais reichten bald nicht mehr aus, wodurch jahrelang Klassen in andere Schulen ausgelagert werden mussten. Erst ab 1954 konnte die Schule, die heute als Ohm-Gymnasium firmiert, einen Neubau im Süden Erlangens beziehen. Das Egloffsteinsche Palais indes beherbergte nach einer Renovierung ab 1958 die Erlanger Stadtbücherei, die aber bereits ab 1971 an ihren heutigen Standort in das Stutterheimsche Palais zog. Danach diente das Egloffsteinsche Palais bis 1998 als Sitz der staatlichen Fachoberschule, wobei erneut zahlreiche Klassen ausgelagert werden mussten.

Im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde das Egloffsteinsche Palais mehrfach umgestaltet und dabei auch die Fassade zur Schuhstraße hin verändert. Seit 1998 steht das Gebäude ausschließlich der Volkshochschule zur Verfügung. Bis auf den westlichen Flügel steht das gesamte Palais unter Denkmalschutz.

Egloffsteinsches Palais (Erlangen)

Das Schloss Marloffstein ist ein Schloss im gleichnamigen Ort Marloffstein im mittelfränkischen Landkreis Erlangen-Höchstadt in Bayern. Als Burg existierte es bereits vor 1300. Am Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts wurde es prunkvoll im barocken Stil ausgebaut. Nach dem Verlust seiner Funktion als Amtssitz, 1792, verfiel es und wurde 1833 auf seine jetzige Gestalt reduziert.

Geschichte

Im ersten Jahrtausend unserer Zeitrechnung zählte der Standort der Burganlage zum Nordgau später zum Radenzgau. Um 1007 wurde das Gebiet um Marloffstein vom späteren Kaiser Heinrich II. dem neu gestifteten Bistum Bamberg zugeschlagen. Die damalige Burg diente wohl zum Schutz der nahe verlaufenden Grenze des neuen Bistums und wurde von den adligen Dienstmannen des Bischofs als Hofmark verwaltet.  Als ältestes geschichtliches Denkmal dieser Zugehörigkeit trägt im heutigen Schlosshof ein Pfeiler einen eingelassenen Wappenstein des Hochstifts Bamberg mit der Jahreszahl 1211. Urkundlich erwähnt wurde der Ort erstmals 1288 als Maurolfstein. Der Namensgeber Maurolf, gewöhnlich ein ortsansässiges Adelsgeschlecht, ist allerdings geschichtlich nicht nachweisbar.

Nach einer Urkunde von 1315 hatten „von altersher“ die Herren von Gründlach den Marloffstein als bischöfliches Lehen inne. Nach dem Erlöschen dieser Adelslinie im genannten Jahr ging das Lehen an Graf Gottfried von Hohenlohe-Brauneck und seine Frau Margarete von Gründlach (der Alleinerbin der Gründlachs) über. Zur Verwaltung des Gebietes setzten die Eigentümer oder Lehnsnehmer Vögte und später Amtmänner ein, deren Amtssitz war die Burg Marloffstein. Hatten die Marloffsteiner Vögte anfangs auch die hohe Gerichtsbarkeit mit den entsprechenden Einkommen (Abgaben) inne, so ging diese 1341, nach dem Einzug der bischöflichen Lehen, zusammen mit der Burg an die Hofmarkt Neunkirchen. Die Marloffsteiner Vögte blieben jedoch auf der Burg, von wo sie weiterhin die niedere Gerichtsbarkeit in den Orten Marloffstein, Rosenbach und Spardorf ausübten und das Recht zur niederen Jagd hatten. Ab dieser Zeit diente die Burg und die zugehörigen Grundstücke dem Bamberger Bischof als Pfand für Darlehen. Die Darlehensgeber wurden mit der Burg und den zugehörigen Grundstücken belehnt und zugleich als bischöfliche Amtmänner und ab 1655 als Oberamtmänner benannt. Ab 1792 wurde das Oberamt Marloffstein jedoch nicht mehr von der Burg, sondern von Bamberg aus regiert und nach 1798 schließlich dem Landgericht Neunkirchen einverleibt. 1806 ging das Schloss und die zugehörigen Grundstücke im Zuge der Säkularisation an den Bayrischen Staat und alsbald in bürgerliche Hand.

Während die Burg den Bauernkrieg 1525 unzerstört überstand, wurde sie im Zweiten Markgrafenkrieg 1552 niedergebrannt und erst 1570 wiederhergestellt. Auch im Dreißigjährigen Krieg erlitt sie starke Schäden.

Im Besitz derer von Stauffenberg erfolgte 1691 bis 1695 ein Neubau im barocken Stil auf den Resten der mittelalterlichen Anlage.

1833  wurde ein großer Teil der von einem Zwinger und breitem gemauerten Graben umgebenen, ringförmig fast geschlossenen Schlossanlage abgerissen. Er war zu stark verfallen. Das Schloss büßte den achteckigen Eingangsturm mit seiner welschen Haube, den daran anstoßenden Nordteil des Westflügels bis zur Schlosskapelle und das obere Stockwerk des restlichen Schlosses ein. Der Schlossbau wurde auf seine derzeitige Gestalt reduziert und erhielt ein flachgeneigtes Dach mit Dreiecksgiebel sowie einen massiven Balkon an der Südseite. Das bayerische Urkataster zeigt Schloss Marloffstein in den 1810er Jahren noch mit dem halbrunden Nordflügel und einem Atriumhof.

Die Schlossgaststätte war seit 1885 die Exkneipe der Erlanger Burschenschaft Frankonia. Im Jahr 1932 wurde das Anwesen erneut brandbeschädigt und anschließend wieder saniert.

Schloss Marloffstein

Castle Reichmannsdorf was built in 1714 on behalf of the family von Schrottenberg. The baroque façade of the castle clearly suggests that it contributes an exciting story with them. In its 300 years of history Castle Reichmannsdorf has already produced many strong personalities.

1642 the so-called Truchsess-Castle was destroyed by fire. Johann Dientzenhofer built in its place 1714 until 1719, according to the plans of his brother Leonhard, for Wolf Philipp von Schrottenberg a Castle as a three-wing building with an richly decorated face side, a tall mansard divided roof and a powerful crest gable.

The village Reichmannsdorf was mentioned already in 1303. Wolf Philipp von Schrottenberg bought in the late 17th century a large part of the community hall. From Thuringian porcelain painter Gottlieb Ehrengott Gottrecht was established with the support from family von Schrottenberg a porcelain manufaktory that existed from 1790 until 1867.

Schloss Reichmannsdorf

Schloss Wiesenthau stands on the northeastern edge of the eponymous municipality at the foot of the Ehrenbürg in northern Bavaria. The Renaissance building is a three-winged country house with 4 mid-16th century corner towers and the remains of an enceinte.

The village is first recorded in 1062 in connexion with the royal palace (Königshof) in Forchheim. The lords of Wiesenthau appear from 1128 onwards as ministeriales of the Bishopric of Bamberg. Whether at that time a castle already existed is not clear. The castle itself is first recorded in 1379.

Originally an allodial possession of the lords of Wiesenthau, on 25 June 1379 part of the castle was sold to the Bishopric. In the period that followed the whole castle became a fief of Bamberg. The lords of Wiesenthau remained, however, in charge of the castle as Bamberg vassals.

In 1430 the castle was badly damaged by the Hussites. It suffered destruction again in 1525 during the Peasants' War. In 1566 it was fully rebuilt. Apart from a short period of time, the castle, or at least a part of it, was continuously owned by the lords of Wiesenthau until they died out in 1814.

After a comprehensive renovation lasting from 1985 to 1992, the castle became an inn and hotel.

Schloss Wiesenthau

Schloss Puckenhof ist ein ehemaliges Schloss der Freiherren Haller von Hallerstein in Buckenhof im mittelfränkischen Landkreis Erlangen-Höchstadt. Es ist heute eine evangelische Jugendheimstätte.

Geschichte

1372 wird der Ort als Erbforsthube des Nürnberger Bürgers Hermann Remar erwähnt. Aus ihm ging das Schloss Puckenhof hervor. Das Gut befand sich von 1462 bis 1487 und 1501 bis 1848 im Besitz der Haller von Hallerstein. Im Zweiten Markgrafenkrieg wurden die Gebäude am 29. Mai 1552 von markgräflichen Truppen niedergebrannt. In den Jahren 1564–1567 bauten die Haller das Schloss Puckenhof wieder auf. Seit 1850 wird das ehemalige Hallerschloss als Jugendheim, Erziehungsanstalt und heilpädagogische Tagesstätte von evangelischen Trägervereinen genutzt.
