Potštejn Castle is one of the most extensive ruins in the Czech Republic. The fortifications, castle gateways, and chapel are preserved. The castle palace has been reconstructed. Picturesque surroundings.
While only ruins remain today, Potštejn at one time was one of the largest and most important castles in the country. The castle changed owners many times after its founding in the 13th century. Important among these from a historical as well as a literary perspective was the Count Harbuval de Chamaré, who searched unsuccessfully for treasure at the castle for twenty years. However, the writer Alois Jirásek used this fact as inspiration for a novel. The castle was already in poor condition sometime in the middle of the 18th century, and in the second half of the 20th century it was reconstructed and opened to the public. The fourth entrance gate houses an exhibition documenting the history of the castle.

The steep slopes of the foothills of the Orlické hory (Eagle Mountains) gave the advantage of a strategic position to the gothic castles being founded there at the close of the 13th century. The high headland around which flowed the Divoká Orlice River was the site chosen just before the year 1300 by the Drslavic family to build up a castle which they named after their original family settlement in the Plzeň area. For a short span of time in the 14th century the Litice castle was owned by two Luxemburg rulers successively, John of Luxemburg and Charles IV In 1371 Boček of Kunštát, a Moravian noble, came with his family to settle at the castle. One branch of the family became naturalized in Bohemia through marriage and the purchase of the Poděbrady and Pardubice estates.

A late Renaissance chateau was built at the end of the 16th cent, in the place of a Gothic fortress. At the end of the 17th cent, adapted in the early Baroque style, agricultural buildings were added. Exhibition of historical furniture. The chateau is surrounded by a park with rare trees and shrubs.

Doudleby nad Orlicí Chateau

Renaissance chateau apparently built by Jan Hylebrant of Ryzmburk on the site of the old fortress from 1589 with high scutcheons and a facade ornate with graphite. Arcades with crossed vaulted ceilings on the first floor. In 1694-1924 it was in the property of the Sternberk family. Now it is in private ownership and functional use. Remains were found of the settlement of another so-called Silesian-platenic ash culture.

Koldín Chateau

The son of Prince Ferdinand, Count Josef Kinský, had this Empire style chateau built in 1829-1833 as the family residence. A reception room and library were built on the elevated ground floor; the first floor contained residential spaces.The Kostelec new chateau is one of the best Empire structures of its kind in the country. The chateau is surrounded by an English park, which has now been declared a nature preserve.

Rychnov nad Kněžnou Chateau

Častolovice Chateau is one of the most beautiful renaissance chateaus in the Czech Republic. It is privately owned by Countess Sternbergová, so you will see what it is like for a noble family to rule a chateau. What can you expect in the chateau’s chambers? A permanent exhibition of the chateau includes twenty rooms with historical furniture from the time of the Renaissance until the Biedermeier period. Specific beauty of the chateau is created by the textiles, numerous personal belongings, photographs and flowers. What could you do after you have looked around the breathtaking chateau exhibition? You can relax in the beautiful courtyard with a fountain and exotic plants and animals. You can listen to the sound of pleasant chamber music. You can visit the café and have a delicious coffee and cake. If you are hungry there is a chateau restaurant. Children will love the playground or animal farm where they will see various different species of exotic animals which they can feed.
A welcome addition to the chateau is the tour for the blind and visually impaired. The tour takes one hour. The tours for the blind must be booked in advance. The blind can come into contact with art and history through haptic perception. The chateau is partially accessible for the physically disabled – the park, restaurant and sanitary facilities are wheelchair access and the chateau is equipped with a stair climber and partially with an elevator. In the future the chateau will provide full wheelchair access.

Častolovice Chateau

An original fortress, likely from the 15th century, that was burned by the army of Matthias Corvinus in 1469. Reconstructed and expanded into a chateau in the first half of the 17th century. Currently houses the State Regional Archive.

Zámrsk Chateau

The Renaissance chateau with ground floor arcade in the courtyard was built in the second half of the 16th century. In 1829 the chateau burned and restorations were conducted in the Classicist style. In 1849-1850 the east wing of the chateau was reconstructed into the pseudo-Gothic Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which forms the entrance area to the chateau.

A single-storey and architecturally insignificant building, built around two square courtyards. The building is accompanied by an English park, which gradually transforms into a game preserve.

Žamberk Chateau

The original castle was probably founded by Přemysl Otakar II in the middle of the 13th century during colonization of the area and abandoned at the end of the 16th century. Remains of the cellars and cross walls of the palace have been preserved up to now. In the east it is divided from today´s village by a massive ditch and rampart.
