Zakšín castle, sometimes called “Pustý zámek” is one of the most remarkable examples of fortified settlements situated on sandstone.
The castle was built on the site of an old fort in 1400 during the rule of Václav Berka. Around 1450 it had already been abandoned. It used to stand on 3 sandstone blocks, the gaps between them serving as moats. The most interesting is the second one, carved sideways, with a protrusion allowing one to go up to the drawbridge. Some rooms are carved into the rock.

Bernštejn chateau was built in the Renaissance style in 1553-1567 by Adam Berka of Dubé. The residence of the Berk family was moved to the chateau from the Starý Bernštejn castle. In the first half of the 18th century the chateau underwent Baroque modifications. The attic dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. Pseudohistoric modifications were done in 1934.

Nový Berštejn Chateau

The exact date of the Chateau construction is uncertain, but we have some dates on the Chateau' buildings (1696 and 1635). The second one is connected with change of the Vidim demesne owner, when it was given into hands of General Johann Böck, betrayer of Albrecht of Wallenstein... But nowadays we skeptically assume, that the pictoresque Baroque complex was built in the first half of the 18th century together with adjoining English park. The demesne changed owners several times and finally it was in a possesion of German-Bohemian textile enterpreneur Theodor Grahmann. He extended the Chateau (western wing) in neo-Baroque style in 1898 and also erected in the Chateau' grounds vast homestead with sawmill. He also reconstructed Chateau' park and completed it by distinctive Gloriet, many bridges and cast statues of Classical heroes and gods. Later, after WWII, it was nationalized and nowadays, after partial reconstruction, it serves as retirement home (Domov senioru Vidim).
From Chateau' original Baroque exterior is the southern facade, opened into the garden, the best preserved. Facade has protruded avant-corps (risalite), balcony in the second storey and it is finished in the centre by volute gable decorated by putti and vase.

Vidim Chateau

The castle was founded at the beginning of the 15th century by Jindřich Berka of Dubá. It was also called Berkenstein.
In the mid 15th century the castle was in the hands of the Vartemberks; in the 16th century it went back to the hands of the Berka family. They left it in the middle of the century and moved to Nový Berštejn near Dubé. At present, you can see the tower and a not very large front part with relics of bastions.

Starý Berštejn Castle

Houska Castle is an early Gothic castle, 47 kilometres (29 mi) north of Prague, in the Czech Republic. It is one of the best preserved castles of the period. Notable features include a predominantly gothic chapel, green chamber with late-gothic paintings, and knight's drawing room.
It was built in the first half of the 13th century probably on the orders of Bohemian ruler Ottokar II of Bohemia during his reign (1253–78) to serve as an administration center from which the extensive royal estates could be managed. Later it passed to the hands of the aristocracy, frequently passing from the ownership of one to another. In 1584–90 it underwent Renaissance-style modifications, losing none of its fortress features as it looks down from a steep rocky cliff. In the 18th century it ceased to serve as a noble residence and fell into a state of disrepair before being renovated in 1823. In 1897 it was purchased by Princess Hohenlohe and in 1924, the times of the First Republic, bought by the President of Škoda, Josef Šimonek. During World War II, the Germans used the castle to perform inhumane experiments on local people or prisoners of war.

Houska Castle

Kokořín Castle (Czech: Hrad Kokořín) is a castle located some 10 km (6 mi) northeast of Mělník, Czech Republic. It was built in the first half of the 14th century by order of Hynek Berka z Dubé. It was heavily damaged during the Hussite Wars and stood in ruins until the reconstruction campaign of 1911–1918. It was nationalized in 1948 and has been designated a national cultural landmark since 2001. The nature preserve of Kokořínsko takes its name from this castle.

Castle Helfenburk, also called Hrádek, was built by Ronovci in the first half of the 14th century, but already in 1375 it became the property of the Prague Archbishopric.

Hrádek u Úštěku Castle

This was originally a Gothic stronghold that acquired its Renaissance appearance after alterations in the late 16th century. In the early 18th century, it was converted into a Baroque chateau.
František Maxmilián Kaňka created the project for Jan Jáchym Pachta of Rájov, the Bohemian nobleman and owner of the premises. Sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun and painter Václav Vavřinec Reiner contributed to the decoration. Braun´s impressive sculptures also enriched the large English park. In the early 19th century the residency was changed again in Classical style and rooms were decorated by Josef Navrátil in the spirit of the National Revival. Precious sculptures by Václav Levý, a Czech sculptor, were installed in the park soon afterwards. Nowadays, Náprstek Museum´s exhibition of Asian cultures is situated in the chateau.

Liběchov Chateau

The castle is located on about a 30-metre-high sandstone cliff above the pond, near the village named Harasov. In 1321 it was probably founded by Pešek Hrzán from Újezd. In 1420 it was in the possession of Dobeš from Harasov. Probably at the beginning of the 17th century the castle completely deteriorated. At that time the locality was a part of the Byšice estate. At present, there are well-preserved (well-situated) rock cellars carved in the rock wall above the pond. However, it is difficult to find them as their rock windows and the entrance are occupied with a wooden construction.
The castle used to rise on the rock above the cellars and you can recognise the ditches and smallish relics of the walls, obviously the palace. In the sandstone near the dyke of the pond you can come across a relief depicting Jesus on the cross. The locality is sometimes mentioned as Krvomlýn (i.e. Blood Mill). The name is connected with several romantic legends, for example, about the owner of the castle who declared that the mill-wheel that he ordered to be installed under the castle should be started up by the blood of the murderers who had raped and killed his beautiful daughter - and that they should be executed by his own hands.

Harasov Castle

16th century Baroque chateau with original Renaissance foundation. The Valdštejn clan owned it for almost three centuries – until 1945. A three-storey tower dominates the three-wing structure. The chateau’s neighbouring architectural buildings date back to the 18th century and the chateau park enriches the entire area.

Doksy Chateau

The castle probably built Berka of Dubé, from Ronovci after 1350. In 1375 it was bought by Prague Archbishop Jan Ocko of Vlasim from Hanus of Helfenbeku, probably one of the descendants of the family Klinštejnů. Archbishop so created rural hinterland in the woods nearby to stay outside the WAC, which performed in his office. He stayed there briefly and its successor, the third Prague archbishop Jan of Jenštejna. At the time of their stay was a tiny castle substantially modified. The original wooden building a radically changed, especially increased stone reconstructions. The settlement around the castle originated from several buildings, the castle was built chapel, built 63 meters deep well and a new castle was surrounded by moats and walls and have been here for some time brought from Prague St. Vitus jewelry, relics and books. The record came in 1395 Roudnice Prior Petra clarifier, personal chronicler John of arcibiskupina Jenštejna of John's accident on the bridge leading from the new tower, where he nearly collapsed. Jan lived here until about 1400, ie at a time when he was deprived of his office. After the extinction of the family in 1538 the castle gradually abandoned. In 1622, then burned down due to the imperial army marshal Buquoy. It was a period pillaging passing armies in the Thirty Years' War. After the Battle of White Mountain, the Jesuits gained from Liběšice and attached to the Usti estate.
When in 1887 the ruins of the castle was bought and modified industrialist, Count Joseph von Schroll and began to be attractive to tourists. He's here in 1887-1890 built a romantic three-story tower of 30 meters, where it leads 143 steps.
