Nový Hrádek was built at the behest of Margrave John Henry Luxembourg shortly after 1358. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries the system of fortifications was strengthened and the so-called New Castle was constructed on a more advanced position. In 1645 it was taken and partially destroyed by the Swedes.
In the nineteenth century the Mniszeks as the new owners had the front part repaired for hunting and recreational purposes. Before the Second World War the castle served as a hostel for the Czech Tourism Club and after the war it was part of the so-called forbidden zone. Today it is open to the public as a national cultural monument surrounded by the exceptional landscape of the Podyjí National Park.

Vranov's location was first mentioned by Cosmas of Prague in 1100 as a border sentry castle (oppidum (et) castrum Wranou). It was built by the Dukes of Bohemia to defend the southern border of Moravia against raids from the neighbouring Austrian March. Until 1323 the castle was in royal hands but in that year king John of Bohemia pawned Vranov to a powerful Bohemian nobleman, the viceroy Jindřich of Lipá.
In 1421, during the disturbances of the Hussite Wars the Bohemian noble family of Lichtenburg took control of the castle and the contiguous market town. In 1499 it definitely passed on to Lichtenburgs as hereditary possession by the king Vladislaus II of Bohemia and Hungary. The Lichtenburg family held Vranov for almost a century, until 1516.
In the 16th century, Vranov frequently changed the holders. Probably the most significant owners were lords from the Bavarian family of Althann, cousins of the Princes of Belmonte. Wolf Dietrich of Althann purchased the castle in 1614. 
Michael Johann II Althann recovered the Vranov estate for the family in 1680. He commissioned the famous Austrian architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach to design a grand hall, known as ‘the Hall of the Ancestors’ in the Baroque style as a memorial to his Althann ancestors. It was built between 1687 and 1695. It’s an oval construction surmounted by an imposing cupola and became a dominant feature of Vranov. An Austrian sculptor, Tobias Kracker, created large statues of the ancestors in niches around the walls and another Austrian artist, Johann Michael Rottmayr, painted an allegorical glorification of the Althann family in the cupola. To complement the Hall of the Ancestors with a spiritual element, Fischer von Erlach designed a Baroque chapel, the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, which incorporated an Althann family vault. The richly decorated chapel was built in two years (1699 and 1670). After the death of Michael Johann II Althann more grand buildings were constructed, completing the transformation of the original castle complex into an up-to-date Baroque chateau.

Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau

The original Znojmo Castle, built in the 1st half of the 11th century on a promontory above Dyje River, was the seat of Znojmo Přemyslid appanage princes and fortress guarding the southern border of the Czech Lands. In the 18th century, the Lords of Deblín erected a Baroque chateau on its foundations, proceeding only from the ground plan of the northern and eastern wings. The spacious courtyard on the site of the southern and western wings of the original castle is designed as a court of honour. The oval entrance hall of the chateau - known as "Ancestors´Hall", attracts the eye by the ceiling fresco gallery of Austrian Habsburgs. Today the chateau houses a museum.
In 1710 the Roman Emperor Joseph I decided  to dispose of the castle. The front castle was bought by Znojmo burghers, who used the space to build a brewery,  and the rear castle became the possession of the Lords of Deblin.
In 1710-1721 the new owners had a High-Baroque Chateau built, probably designed by the well-known Austrian architect J. B. Fischer von Erlach.
The derelict old castle was demolished and the new Chateau occupied the space of the old northern and eastern wings. In the place of the castle’s former southern and western wings, a spacious cour d’honneur was created, which was not oriented towards the city (as would have been usual), but towards the beautiful deep river canyon. The oval entrance hall of the chateau (the Ancestors’ Hall) has an interesting fresco,  painted by J. M. Fiseé (born in the Austrian Netherlands – now Belgium), depicting the union of the Czech lands Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.
The Chateau lost much of its charm at the end of the 18th century and in the 19th century when it was converted into a military hospital.
Today Deblin Chateau is maintained by the South Moravian Museum and houses a permanent historical exhibition.

Znojmo Castle/Deblín Chateau

The history of the Château in Plaveč reaches as long as the 13th century. In that time there was a Gothic fortress which was re-built into a Renaissance castle at the end of the 16th century by the family of Hodicky. Then in the mid-18th century a scion of this family, from the line of de Souches family, re-built the Renaissance castle into a Baroque palace. The present classicistic form was impressed to it by the baron Albert Widmann in 1825, whose ancestors acquired the château in 1743. There is a splendid park stretching around in the surroundings of the château.
The most valued well-preserved monument in the precinct is a Romanesque rotunda from the mid-13th century.

Plaveč Chateau

Cornštejn Castle (Czech: hrad Cornštejn or Cornštýn, Corštejn, Corštýn, German: Zornstein) is a castle near Bítov, 31 kilometres   west of Znojmo, in south-west Moravia, the Czech Republic.
It was built on royal demesne land which was subordinated to Bítov Castle and which was pawned and later (1308) granted as a fief to the noble family of Lichtenburg. In the 1320s Raimund of Lichtenburg, King Wenceslaus II’s favourite, decided to strengthen the security of Bítov Castle and the road connecting Bítov with Vranov Castle by building a fort – Zornstein / Cornštejn. After all, Raimund’s sons had to be provided for as well. According to the instrument issued by Moravian Margrave Charles on 31 May 1343, Raimund`s sons Smil and Czenek were allowed to divide their father’s domain with "Vethow" and "Czornstein" castles.

Cornštejn Castle

The Old Castle was erected on the place of a medieval fortress constructed in the mid-15th century on the right shore of the Jevišovka river. In the late 16th century it was rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau and in the 1680s the then owner of the domain, Louis Raduit de Souches, made it rebuild in the Baroque style. The Moravian Museum has been the owner of the castle since 1880.
Due to the refurbishment, only the permanent exhibition in the Castle kitchen and the exhibition on Rock art are available to visitors since May 1, 2015.

Jevišovice Castle

Bítov Castle is a castle on a steep promotory towering above the meandering River Želetavka, near the Vranov reservoir, in the village of Bítov, some 25 kilometres northwest of Znojmo, Czech Republic. Built in the 11th century, Bítov is one of the oldest and largest Moravian castles.
A Přemyslid fortified settlement originally stood on the site and included the Chapel of Our Lady (Kostelík Panny Marie). The fort was rebuilt in the first half of the 13th century as an impregnable Gothic castle guarding the southern boundaries of the Přemyslid lands. In the 14th century a new inner ward was built along with Late Gothic fortifications. The Lords of Bítov became the new owners of the castle and based themselves here for four centuries. They carried out further improvements to the defensive capabilities of the castle.
Bítov finally underwent Baroque remodelling, and gained its present form at the beginning of the 19th century, when it passed into the hands of the Counts of Daun. The descendants of Marshal Daun, the famous military leader, rebuilt the castle in the spirit of the Romantic style. Between 1811 and 1845 the richly-decorated state rooms were created, on the basis of proposals of Anton Schuler. The culmination of the re-Gothicising work was the remodelling of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin (kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie) by Viennense architect Anton Rucker, who left the original Gothic furnishings. At the end of the 20th century, Bítov underwent extensive refurbishment.

Bítov Castle

This Renaissance castle was built in place of a Gothic stronghold in the 16th century. After the World War II the large building became somehow dilapidated and is now being reconstructed – the tour shows the progress of reconstruction works. The castle is surrounded by a former Baroque garden and a large sylvan park.

Uherčice Chateau

The castle in Lechovice as we know it today was created by reconstructing the former summer residence of the abbey of the Premonstratensians of Louka, which is the second oldest order based in Moravia. The choice of the location of this building was not a question of coincidence; the owners were inspired by a previously standing medieval fortress destroyed in 1481. In 1665, the Premonstratensians gained the ownership of the Lechovice farm and given the growing influence of the Marian cult and legendary healing power of a local well, the then appointed abbot Vincenc Wallmera ordered the construction of a new Pilgrimage church in the vicinity of the stream. Most probably, the church in Lechovice is the work of the Austrian architect Christian Alexander Oedtl and shows features of the Hight Baroque style. This Austrian High Baroque Church even bears some resemblance to the St. Peter´s Church in Vienna – the work of Hildebrant. Along with the church, a summer baroque abbey residence was built in the area. After the Josephine Reforms in 1784 when the religious orders were abolished, all the property was passed onto the religious foundation. In 1824 the representatives of the foundation sold the mansion to a wealthy Viennese burger Josef Lang from Znojmo. After his death, the mansion became the heritage of his daughter Julie, married later to K.F. Kubeck von Kubau. Naturally, the mansion came into possession of a new noble family.
Maxi Kubeck von Kubau is the one to be given credit to for the current form of the mansion.  It emerged gradually as classicist reconstructions when there have been additional towers added in the pseudo, neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau style. One can enjoy numerous stunning polychrome fountains, a castle colonnade with a gazebo, French parterre with a balustrade staircase and a beautiful cast iron patio. At the same time, a lovely English landscaped park was created around the premises with lots of exotic woody species. To this day, the park is dominated by an aged summer oak which is believed to be over a thousand years old. After the war, the building was used for variety of purposes for different organizations such as the army, national farming center, schools or as a hospice for elderly nuns. For these reasons, the premises of the mansion have repeatedly been modified and, sadly to say, not always in a positive meaning of the word. It was, however, maintained, heated and partially reconstructed throughout the years and thus also somehow preserved. After 1993, the hospice lost its relevance and after several attempts to find a new purpose, the mansion was repeatedly sold to several new owners.

Lechovice Chateau

The chateau was built by Earl Jindřich Rudolf Schaumburk. For this project four burgess houses and a town hall were used. From 1947 the County museum was inside, and in 1969 it was integrated into the West Moravian (Západomoravské) museum in Třebíč, today called Museum of Vysočina. Today it serves as the Museum of Vanishing and Past Handicrafts.
