About 6 kilometres north-east of Bechyně, on a hilly rock above the river Lužnice, there is a Gothic castle originating from the early 14th century.

The most significant owners of the castle were the Rožmberks who had it expanded at the beginning of the 16th century. Later on the castle was used as a summer residence for the Jesuit College of St. Kliment from the Old Town of Prague, but after the Jesuits left the castle in 1727, it fell into disrepair. Nowadays you find romantic ruins of walls and a dominant round tower on the site. The tower is visible from far away and in its shadow there is a camping site where canoeists floating down the Lužnice River or hikers tramping through the region can stay overnight.

The former princely settlement in Bechyně, first mentioned in the 9th century, is situated on the southernmost rock promontory overlooking the confluence of the Smutná and the Lužnice rivers. King Přemysl Otakar II obtained the "desert mountain of Bechyně" before 1268 from the property of Prague bishops and had a stone castle built there. Under the reign of King Jan Lucemburský a town was founded around the castle, and fortified with town walls in 1323. New mighty fortification of the castle was implemented in the 15th century.
Since the 1270s the castle changed owners several times, in 1340 even including the Lords of Šternberk (again in 1477 to 1530, and then between 1596 and 1715), who sold the Bechyně estate to Margrave Jošt in 1367. Under the Bechyně Family of Lažany at the turn of 1422-1423 the town was set on fire by the Hussite commander Jan Hvězda of Vícemilice; but the castle was only conquered by Prokop Holý in 1428.
The only remnants of the earliest seat, reconstructed in 1477 and then in the period of 1510 to 1527, include parts of two lengthwise buildings connected with a crosswise wing, which was attached in the renaissance period to the newly built Vok chateau. The fourth wing, closing the southern end of the yard, was pulled down in 1791.
Following the era of the Švamberk family, who owned Bechyně since 1530, the reign was taken over by Petr Vok of Rožmberk in the years 1569 to 1596, who celebrated his wedding there (on 14 February 1580) with Kateřina of Ludanice. By the marriage of Marie Terezie of Šternberk in 1715, whose husband became Jan Leopold Count Paar, the Bechyně estate came into the possession of the Paar family, who stayed there till 1948, when the chateau was confiscated by the state. Then the building was used by the Czech Academy of Science. After the revolution the estate was restituted and now belongs to a company with its seat in Vaduz (Liechtenstein) and the name Herrschaft Bechyne SE, owned by Josef Šťáva.

Bechyně Chateau

Extant information document that Oltyně belonged to Castle Příběnice in old times and first references come from the year 1378.
In the first half of 16th century Oltyně was already stated in the list of buildings of Bechyně. In 1551 Oltyně was bought by Jindřich Hozlauer from Hozlau and his son Kryštof let build the fortress in 1560.
In 1635 the manor was acquired by Jan Kryštof Naychyger from Oberneychynk and bound with his other property in Stádlec. The last remark about the fortress is from the year 1790.
The manor of Oltyně was separated again in 1859 from the Stádlec property and became self-dependent. Josef Fellner from Feldegg, those days owner of the manor, constructed the neo-renaissance chateau standing up to the present day in the middle of English park.
Original rectangular building was partly wooden. Later on the right wing was annexed. 
After the wedding of Anna Fellner from Feldegg with Jan Křižík, son of Ing. František Křižík, the chateau becomes possession of Křižík family.
At the turn of the thirties the chateau was used as English girl’s college. English maids studied here Slavonic habits and grew into real ladies.
The interior of the chateau was formerly decorated by rich collection of weapons and armour and also great selection of more than two thousand birds from the whole world.

Oltyně Chateau

The village Kolodeje nad Lužnicí is situated about 4 km north of the town Týn nad Vltavou. It lies on the Lužnice river not far from the confluence of the Lužnice and Vltava rivers, 355 m a.s.l.
Only a ferry across the Vltava river is mentioned in this place in the 16th century. The courtyard was founded later and then the Renaissance fortress was built here too. The fortress was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau in about 1740 and the St. Anne's Chapel was added one year later.

Mitrowicz castle

Měšice Castle is situated in Tábor, Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic, about 2 km from the "Tábor Infocenter" along the Chýnov - Pelhřimov road.
Over its 450-year history, the design of the castle has changed and evolved according to the times, tastes, requirements and finances of successive aristocrats. The immediate environs of the castle is known as the Castle Park.
In 1545, the knight Prokop of Hejlovec built a Renaissance style manor house in the village of Měšice (today, this area is an outlying district of Tábor). During this time, the villages of Měšice, Čekanice and Stoklasná Lhota all belonged to the Prokop family of Hejlovec.
John Joseph Caretto, the Count of Mellisimo, rebuilt the manor house in 1699 as a Baroque Castle. In 1792, John Hannygar of Eberg built special water toilets in the Baroque Castle. These water toilets, still work today. In 1817, John Schmidgräber of Lusteneg enlarged the building and, in the Empire style, installed an ostentatious staircase and recreated the facade of the castle.
After 1877, the castle belonged to the Nádherný family (barons) of Borutín. Since 1997, the castle has been the property of Jan Berwid-Buquoy.

Měšice Castle

Vysoký Hrádek is a Renaissance castle in Temelín, Czech Republic
Lords of Březí, from the court of Knín and Býšov originally constructed the fortress and courtyard. The first records we have are of Albert of Březí, who died in 1367. The fortress was inherited by his son, Svatomír, and then by another two sons of Albert, Smil and Bušek.
After the Lords of Březí died out, the fortress, called Hrádek, was inherited by their relatives, the Lords of Býšov.
After changing hands dozens of times, in 1948, the estate was confiscated as part of land reforms in the country, and now houses the information center for the Temelín Nuclear Power Station. Several exhibits using computer graphics and films explain how to control nuclear reactors, and reactor physics and safety.

Březí u Týna nad Vltavou (Vysoký Hrádek Chateau)

The ruins of a medieval stronghold called Starý Zámek are situated northwest of Tábor in the direction of Sedlec. Its history reaches back to the 14th century.
In 1434 the castle was unsuccessfully besieged by Prokop Holý´s troops; in the early 17th century the castle was plundered by the imperial army and never repaired afterwards. In the early 19th century stone from the ruins was used for construction in the nearby village. Parts of towers have remained from the castle and some walls of the new palace and the gate. Due to its favourable location in forested countryside above two ponds this is a widely sought after location.

Borotín Castle

The Baroque chateau stands in the village of Chotoviny. The three-winged building with the polygonal tower was built between 1770 - 1780. The frontage of the chateau has the Pseudo-Renaissance appearance from the reconstruction in the 1870's. Hundreds of years old oak trees can be found in the park around the chateau.

Chotoviny Chateau

When the eldest owner Ješek from Brandlín died, Brandýs castle was still originally a manor with a fort. The next important owners were Olbramové Brandlínští from Štěkř who rebuilt the fort to the Renaissance style in early 16th century. Another ownrs were for examples Hozlauerové z Hozlau and Černínové z Chudenic. Later the fort was rebuilt again to the castle in Baroque style. In 18th century Brandlín castle belonged to Zlatá Koruna monastery, family of barons Nádherných and Baroque adjustments were on the order of the day. Last adjustments are known from years 1934 and 1958 of the 20th century.
In the lower part of the Castle is situated The Castle Pub, where you can sit-down in a pleasant enviroment with a great view on beautiful arches and escutcheons of all previous owners.
On the first floor is arising new exposition of the knight´s hall. Here you can find historical artefacts and their replicas, including old castle clocks.
Outdoor you can see well-preserved Renaissance frescoes and we recommend remarkable soulution of the east facade too.
Brandlín Castle lies in South Bohemia Region in the middle of Brandlín village which is located about 8 km north-east of Soběslav and 8 km north-west of Planá nad Lužnicí. Same far is Červená Lhota Castle and is also possible to visit well-known castle ruins of Choustník which are only 5 km away and Kozí Hrádek Castle is in the distance of 10 km from Brandlín Castle.

Tučapy (Brandlín Chateau)

Between 1857 and 59 the château was significatly rebuilt in the neo-gothic style for John of Nepomuk Kanka, a significant Prague patron and a university rector. Kanka also established an English château park and later an extended library and a picture gallery inside the château.
Jan N Kanka was an attorney and from the year 1778 a councillor of Prague court of appeal. He was promoted to the doctor of law, in 1815 he was awarded a degree of the dean of the faculty of law and he later became a rector of the university. In 1938 Václav Zakotelna, an architect and builder in Prague bought the manor farm estate of Jetřichovice and Vrchotice. He paid significant attention to the cultivation of the neglected property, first of all he reconstructed the château and the chaple. The owners of the building are offering the property for sale –château compound of Jetřichovice including the adjacent part of the château garden.

Jetřichovice Chateau

Originally a small complex, the castle was continuously extended until 1278. After the Přemyslid dynasty died out in 1306, Zvíkov became property of the Rožmberk family. After 1337 the settlement under the castle has been fortified, as a part of thorough repairs. Its fortifications were so strong that even the Hussites, during the Hussite Wars, besieged it for four months in 1429, but found it a tough nut to crack and failed to take it. To protect against heavy artillery its walls were further strengthened.
Although Emperor Charles IV placed it on a list of royal castles not to be pawned, his successors ignored his decree and by 1431 it was in the possession of the Rožmberk dynasty. At the start of Thirty Years' War Zvíkov was owned by a rebellious Protestant nobleman whose garrison of 140 men successfully defended the castle against 4,000 Habsburg troops in 1618. The defendants agreed to capitulate to the Emperor's forces only in October 1622. Subsequently, it was looted and devastated. During the 1640s the Švanberks modified the palace and extended it in Renaissance style.
After the damaged inflicted by the war, Zvíkov was restored, but its glory was long gone and the castle served only for farming purposes. A fire accelerated the deterioration of its buildings in 1751. Thus a once-important seat of Czech kings it had become an almost ruin by the 1840s, at which time the Schwarzenbergs, owners of the ruin, invested huge sums in a thorough reconstruction, which restored the heart of the castle to its former glory.
At the end of 17th century it ceased to have military value and was used as granary. The decline continued and in 1751 fire damaged a large part of the palace. In 1780 the chapel was deconsecrated. The facade of the palace collapsed in 1829 and between 1880 and 1902 the castle was reconstructed, only to be confiscated by the state in 1947.
The Orlík Dam, which was built between 1954 and 1962 and named after Orlík Castle, deluged the castle downtown and made Zvíkov easily accessible. Major restorations between 1970 and 1980 concentrated on the palace.
