Description

The kula was built in 1812 by Gheorghiţă Măldărescu, son of Gheorghe Măldărescu, the founder of the Greceanu kula. The bas-reliefs were created in 1827. In 1907 the kula was bought by the great statesman I.G. Duca. It was nationalised in 1962, restored in 1966-1967 and then turned into a museum.

Description:

This a compact, rectangular plane three-storied kula. There is only one entry from the outside, which directs traffic towards the cellar and towards the upper levels. The cellar has carved pillars and massive wooden rafters. The upper floors host the living quarters. On the second floor there is a turret. In the back, the kula has an extension, on three levels, which houses the privy. The defensive elements are represented by the battlements on every floor, even in the turret, the solid, reinforced door to the kula and the trapdoor that closes the staircase to the turret's level. The kula is richly decorated on the inside: the ceilings and the window frames are decorated with vegetal motifs, fantastic animals and characters. The stairway’s handrail is carved, and the inside of the staircase is painted. The stoves, which are present in each room, have varied forms and are decorated. I.G.Duca’s memorial house, a nice wooden cross and an annex building for the kula complex are also to be found within the museum complex.
