At the confluence of the Obra and Paklicy is an artificial hill on which stand the ruins of the royal castle. Already at the end of the ninth century was a wooden castle here, which often destroyed Brandenburgians. In 1296 years it partially destroyed in fire, after which the bulkheads stationed just military.

Brick castle built by Casimir the Great, but the exact dates of the construction of do not know. Perhaps it started before the year 1340, and archaeological studies indicate that after 1350 years still could not be completed. Castle quite exactly fit the shape of the foundation of castle. Perimeter walls, with the exception of the northern sector, stand on the old ramparts of earth, and the whole thing has an irregular plan. The entrance to the castle ran from the east side, next was a tower. Later moved to the center of the eastern entrance section of the wall, and on the former site of the tower was erected more extended slightly to the outside. Residential buildings found in the western and southern part of the courtyard.

In 1474 years the castle was captured by the Silesian looters. Even in the fifteenth century, it was rebuilt. When in 1520 the German army went to help the Teutonic Knights captured and burned międzyrzecki castle. During the reconstruction after the devastation has given it features Renaissance. Do not forget the fortifications that lived to see a thorough overhaul in 1564. Then added two corner cylindrical Basta.

Very well preserved southern bastion built of brick. Its inner diameter is about 10-11 meters and the thickness of the walls is 3.5 meters. Utilized tier 9 meter bastion is located 3 meters above ground level. At this height, there are two types of shooting - for light firearms and currently serving as a window large shooting to heavy weapons. It is not known how the original looked like the culmination of this object. In Germany met then Basta covered roof, ruled, however, that there could be heaped dome from the ground with seating for shooters in the chest.

The castle was the seat of governors, of whom we know and Stanislaw J. Zamoyski Zolkiewski. During the Thirty Years' War in the seventeenth century, was destroyed, and the long nobody cared about him.

In the years 1954-1958 was carried out by Z. Ziętkiewicz thorough archaeological and architectural research. Today it houses the regional museum.
