Bouzov Castle is an early 14th-century fortress first mentioned in 1317. It was built on a hill between the village of Hvozdek and the town of Bouzov, 21 kilometres (13 mi) west of Litovel and 28 kilometres (17 mi) northwest of Olomouc, in Moravia, Czech Republic. The castle has been used in a number of film productions lately, including Arabela, Fantaghirò, and Before the Fall.

Construction of the castle began after 1352. In 1361, Moravian Margrave Jan received the unfinished castle and after completion he eneamed it after the building method Plankenberg (in translation "Beam mountain" Planke mean lath or beam). The castle is situated on a hill surrounded by two streams that run below the castle and flow into the brook Nectava. In 1422 the castle was probably seized and burned by the Crusaders. Today you can see ramparts, parts of walls and you can still recognise the castle well today.

Plankenberk Castle

The chateau and surrounding area are situated on a former citadel, which was there already in the 13th century. The history is closely linked with the village and estate. Famous and well-educated families such as the Zoubeks of Zdětín (1481-1590), the Hájovský (1590-1604), the Bokůvek of Bokůvka (1604-1622), Polish nobleman and writer Vavřinec Jan the knight Rudawski (1661-1671) and the gentry of Witten and Andlern used to live here. These families changed the original citadel into a chateau, which was also reconstructed for several times.
In the beginning of the 19th century the Terchs, originally a burgess family, bought both the estate and chateau. Antonín Tersch initiated the reconstruction into the current design in the middle of the 19th century. Based on some elements the author of the reconstruction might have been Anton Arche, the architect that designed for example Podzámecká and Květná garden at Kroměříž – monuments protected by UNESCO. Then the vegetable and fruit garden was transformed into an English park with small decorative constructions. In the thirties of the 20th century a small pavilion in the corner of the park was rebuilt into a family crypt.
During the 70s of the 20th century they established a hotel here. nowadays the chateau is not used and the premises are closed down.

Chudobín Chateau

The castle was transformed into a prison in the mid-16th century, and beginning 1750 it served as a clerical penitentiary. Later, the castle was purchased by the state and now serves as a highsecurity penitentiary. The interiors of the building are not open to the public.

Mírov Castle

The original Renaissance fortress from 1513 underwent Renaissance reconstruction shortly thereafter in 1541. In the 18th century the Libštein family from Kolovraty rebuilt the fortress into a Baroque chateau. Starting in 1879 the building was owned by Prince Lamoral Thurn Taxis, whose son was murdered in Biskupice in 1945.

Biskupice Chateau

Ruins of a castle likely from the 13th century that earlier guarded the trade route through the Třebůvka River valley; the site is shrouded in mystery even for historians as there are no traces of a building, there is a massive wall protecting one side but no side walls, etc. A Slavic settlement from the 10th and 11th centuries originally stood on the site. According to one version of history the castle, as the residence of a marauding knight, was razed by troops of Czech King Václav II in 1286, along with the nearby Hřebeč, Mladějov, Hoštejn, Žichlínek and Hradisko u Moravské Třebové castles. The castle was favourably situated on a promontory over the river, had a large fore-castle area, and was protected by a 9 metre wide moat and rampart. A second castle moat was carved directly from the rock; behind it are remnants of a gabled 2.8 metre wide castle wall.

Radkov Castle

The western wing of the building with its square-shaped courtyard houses the most precious part of the Konice Chateau - the dining hall of the brethren. Its ceiling is decorated by a large fresco "The Dining of the Holy Family", painted by Johann Georg Etgens in 1725-33.
Nowadays the chateau serves for the representative purposes of the city of Konice and its premises serve as a venue for exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events. The ground floor houses a permanent exhibit of local customs and trades with numerous rare items showing separate trades such as smithcraft, millery, tailoring, brewery, etc.

Konice Chateau

It is one of the oldest North Moravian castles built in the style of a French castel. It was partly rebuilt into a chateau at the end of the 17th century. In 1898, the original owners of the castle, the family of Lichtenstein, founded a Museum for Forestry and Hunting, which contains a unique collection of its kind in Central Europe.
At the museum you can see a collection of trophies from the Liechtenstein’s African expeditions. A collection of trophies of local birds and mammals can be seen as well.
Other attractions include a collection of quaint poachers' guns and hunting rifles. Paintings by an academic painter Lubomír Bartoš are on display in the Gallery. Exhibitions take place in the exhibition spaces during the main season.

Úsov Chateau

The small Renaissance chateau was built as a fortress in 1599 by Prokop and Jetřich Podstatský of Prusínovice. The current appearance of the building dates to reconstructions at the end of the 18th century.

Jevíčko Chateau

The Moravská Třebová Castle, which belongs among the most significant Renaissance monuments in Central Europe, was built on the site of a former castle built in the 13th century. In 2005, extensive reconstruction of the castle grounds was completed, which took a total of ten years and thus the castle has once again opened its gates to visitors in all of its glory.
Apart from classic exhibitions in Moravská Třebová Chateau, do not miss the medieval torture chamber, which is the largest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Here you can experience the atmosphere of an execution chamber and try various torture instruments and means of punishment from medieval times. Another interesting exhibition with interactive features which you have to visit is the alchemistical laboratory of Master Bonacin, where perhaps you can prepare an elixir of eternal youth with a bit of luck.
You can complete your visit to the castle by relaxing in the stylish café and then continue to discover the beauty of Moravska Třebova by taking a stroll through the conservation area in the centre of the town.

Moravská Třebová Chateau

It is characteristic for its sophisticated imitations of French chateaux enhanced by the influence of Moravian Baroque. It has a typical layout, i.e. four wings around the courtyard. It is surrounded by a round park covering the total area of 2.5 hectares. In the centre of the park there is the Chateau with four roads leading to all cardinal points. The roads are lined by lime trees. Besides others the Chateau’s pride is an extensive collection of ceremonial carriages that belonged to bishops and archbishops of Olomouc.
In the park we can find majestic trees, to name just some copper beech or nowadays very popular ginco biloba. The last significant changes in the park were done under the supervision of the garden architect Křemen in 1925. This property belongs to the most important ones in Moravia. Besides interesting trees there is a colonnade, cast-iron pavilion and swimming pool.
In 1726 the Náměšť estate was bought by the Harrach’s that belonged to significant families in the Habsburg Empire. Then they used the so-called “Lower Chateau” as their seat. After the 7-year war ended (exactly on 01/03/1766) Ferdinand Bonaventura started building a new chateau close to the ruins of the medieval castle. This new summer seat is built in the early Clacissist style and the inspiration from French chateaux is obvious. At the same time the round park around the Chateau was founded. From the Chateau there are roads leading to all cardinal points. The roads are lined by lime trees. On the periphery of the back half-circle there were built 17 houses for weavers – plots run in radiants into the space. Such a settlement is very unusual and it is unique in our country. The new chateau is also known as the “Upper Chateau” and the old one is called the “Lower Chateau”.
